Some day I hope to see online courses, and teacher seminars, complete enough, and good enough, to seed the basic handset out to parks classes, rec center classes, and senior centers. In the Danville, CA, senior center, over a decade ago two tai chi class students had to learn from DVD's and KZbin to keep their class alive when their group's teacher moved, so almost completely remote teaching and learning is definitely feasible.

Very interesting M Dubb. What do you think is important to have in teaching materials to be considered 'good enough' to reach the level you seek?

@@billsaragosa Ideally the form from all for angles - front, rear, left, right - at normal speed should be enough for an entry level, assuming an attentive student with some in person experience. Advanced disks in a series should explain points that beginners usually have trouble with, as complete novices, and possibly those differences from Yang style (being the most widespread in the West). Most importantly, of course, is a teaching willing to teach and having a functional level of English. "Willing to teach is still quite rare". This is also a huge amount of work with very little return in sight. It assumes a master willing to be filmed, most likely several times each direction and a student willing to do an awful lot of video editing. Most KZbin demos are more like teasers or sizzle reels either for in person classes (which remain the best way to study) or for an old DVD prepared years ago. As a community we've missed a lot over the years. No technology existing to document (or at least affordably document) Sun's style, and even much later, to adequately document even his daughter's movements. Hopefully in the future a younger generation will have more enthusiasm for all the hard work necessary to sustain, support, preserve, and promulgate these wonderful family lineages.
