Hi everyone! I hope you enjoyed this fun solo from Elliot Easton! Next up we have an '80s hair metal classic solo that I've never seen anyone tab correctly. Well, I finally figured out the problem, and I'm really excited to share it with you all. Hint: 🐭

Ratt? I really hope it’s a song from Out of the Cellar or Invasion of Your Privacy (I’ve never liked the other albums)

Out of the Cellar is certainly one of the most influential albums for me. So many great songs, riffs, and solos. :)

Absolutely. Great call. His phrasing is is/was impeccable.

Totally underrated. He is harmonically more advanced than most rock players. I love the way he follows the chord changes during that solo. So tasty.

I remember when the Cars first album came out. So different than what I usually listened to, but yet it was so likable! Thanks for the lesson, Dave!

Hi PDX, I really appreciate your guitar lessons and the great effort you put into them. Unlike the vast majority of other lessons available online, yours are super precise and detailed. You are truly the best guitar teacher! I discovered your channel thanks to the solo lessons from the hard rock bands of the '80s, which are my favorites. While I like The Cars and appreciate Elliot Easton, I honestly wouldn’t try to learn one of his solos. I would much prefer to spend my time to learn a solo from Dokken, Winger, Autograph, Ozzy (Jake E Lee era) or Ratt. It’s a shame that lately you’ve been posting so few lessons dedicated to hair metal bands, but know that you are still number one in your field. No one provides lessons as beautiful and in-depth as yours! Thanks again for everything you do! Lorenzo (from Italy)

Hi Lorenzo, I appreciate your comment. I certainly have others that have said they prefer when I do the '80s stuff too. Hopefully I can find the right balance because I know many also appreciate the fact that the 70s stuff is a lot easier. Anyway, I think you will like my next video! :)

This is the first solo I ever learned. I played it live in a battle of bands in spring 1982. I played the whole thing in the 9th position back then, having learned it by ear. I now know from KZbin that Elliot plays much of it lower down on the neck so I have updated my approach.

It's funny because so many people say he is underrated, and therefore if so many people say it, how can he be underrated, right? 🤩
@yakfishin49122 ай бұрын
@@PDXguitarfreak I don't think he's underrated. I think his fan base has gotten older or passed on honestly. Look at Jerry Reed, one 9f the baddest ever but so few today even remember who he is yet at one time he too sat at the kings table.

Guitarists -- Help a fellow out. My 35-year passion for the instrument has died. I open my case, stare at the guitar, and nothing stirs in me anymore. So I just close the case again. Anyone else gone through this? How did you get out of it? I've tried forcing myself to play, but quickly discovered that's the exact wrong way for me to do it.
@PDXguitarfreak2 ай бұрын
I went through a period where I didn't play much... first it was college, then my early career got in the way. Honestly, being able to share music with others via KZbin really helped rekindle things for me. It's as if my playing has a purpose now as opposed to just me wanking by myself... and most importantly, I really enjoy it. That's the key though, I think, is finding how to make it enjoyable again. I realize that's not very helpful, but I'm just sharing my personal story. 🎸

@@PDXguitarfreak At least some of ya can get past the funk that I am mired in. That's a good thing. It hurts my head and heart that what used to mean EVERYthing to me, now means so little. I hate it.
