After years of listening to consumer reports, I left them years ago for 2 reasons. Most of the time, the items that the "recommend" were no longer available. And when they were, I had terrible luck with them. And 2, they were very behind on their recommendations. When I wanted a snowblower, they didn't print their findings until after all the sales. If I had waited, I would have paid hundreds more.

The Suburu's I test drove had very weak A/C on a hot day. Only near the end of the test drives did they start to get cool. That's the primary reason we didn't consider the two that we looked at.

My two main checkboxes were that the engine had to have both valve injection and gdi (direct injection). If I could have found a motor without that terrible gdi, I would have likely bought one. 2nd nogo was a cvt transmission. I realize some cvt's may be getting more reliable these days, but I didn't want one. I got a standard 8 speed gear tranny. Something else to at least be aware of is that stupid feature that turns the motor off when you come to a stop. I don't buy into the argument that the battery and starter are made more heavy duty to handle all the additional starts and stops. We bought a 2024 Hyundai Tucson 2.4 motor; no turbo, and no awd. Only thing we didn't like was that the automatic engine shutoff at stops was enabled every startup. So you can shut it off, but you have to hit that darn button every time you start the motor. I ended up buying a korean interface board that turned it off unless I hit the button to turn it on. I mounted it under the center console. Maybe that's not a big deal to some, but wish we had known that it was not a feature that could be disabled even after restart. Good luck with your hunt.

Subaru is owned by Toyota (partially) Subaru should dump the Boxer engines and Lineartronic Transmission and use Toyota engine and if they insist on a CVT use the Aisen CVT with the starter gear. Subaru is disingenuous with their boxer engines, they don't use a Head gasket anymore but this silicone stuff that they pump like caulking. Yet if the head leaks they repair it with a proper head gasket. Why just not put them in from the start? Boxer engines have had gasket problems and oil consumption issues fro many years.

What decade are you living in? Hybrids rarely cost much more than a ICE vehicle these days... maybe $1,000 more give or take and you MORE than make up for that price difference at the gas pump with a Hybrid (and usually the Hybrid also has more HP than the ICE), and save on maintenance... when you factor in everything, you'd kinda have to be an idiot to want an ICE over a Hybrid in 2024.

i know someone with the rav4 and it's awesome, there is a knob on the console between the seats, turn it left the speedometer turns green for eco mode, press it (white) for normal, turn it right and it turns red for sport mode pin you to the seat acceleration, but on the highway normal is just as good but if you need quick acceleration on the highway eco isn't that great going uphill on highway but excellent for fuel economy during stop and go city driving

Honestly this list isn’t surprising but even though Kia and Hyundai are hit or miss vehicles, actually there reliability is still better than Nissan, because they don’t use Cvt transmissions at all, and not all of there engines act up, I got a 2014 Hyundai Elantra Limited recently with 54,600 something miles and my friend Dominic has a 2009 Hyundai Sonata with 70,000 something miles, my coworker Amy has a 2019 Hyundai Kona and my friend Kassidy has a 2023 Hyundai Kona, and they all run like brand new Honda’s and Toyota’s are supposed to, so I would be more specific about which models and years because every call has recalls, lawsuits, and etc, but anyways before this car I mentioned I had a 2015 Honda Civic Lx with 91,540 something miles before my car accident and that car would have kept going if it didn’t get totaled, but I agree with the rest of the list especially Nissan, Volkswagen, and GM reliability of those are awful, Nissan is just made for looks along with Volkswagen and GM, sadly my favorite car brands besides Honda and Mazda, are Kia and Hyundai/Gm, but I only love the older GM vehicles, Honda any year or model, same with Mazda’s built after the Ford ownership dissolved, and Kia and Hyundai any year or model except for the Santa Cruz hideous looking truck still, I don’t hate Toyota I just don’t think they are any better than Honda or Kia/Hyundai but definitely better than Nissan good lord, and Ford is just as bad as GM same thing only the older ones for sure, Subaru is nice but too expensive and I can’t stand Mitsubishi and Stellanis vehicles except Jeep and Ram would be fine if they weren’t owned by Stellanis that’s the problem, and everyone else ehhhh German cars are all the same sadly even though yes BMW and Mercedes are really nice just too expensive to keep running! 😳 I had a 2010 Mini Cooper S Convertible once worst mistake because it was abused by the previous owner! 😳

The Theta II Engine mess was HUGE 10 years ago... as Hyundai and Kia share technology the Theta II ended up in a lot of vehicles and was something to be avoided. To this day many vehicles with that Engine still have issues. Having said that Hyundai and Kia have come a long way since then and I actually own a 2023 Tucson Hybrid... but I'm not a blind fanboi...
