We took our 670cc 2 stroke go kart to the Virginia international raceway kart track to find out how our 125hp home made go kart performs around an asphalt race track! The snowmobile powered go kart runs great for a lap or two, and then it unfortunately fouled a spark plug. With a new set of spark plugs, our issue mostly went away. We have to chase down a few problems on this fast go kart (better fuel flow, ignition gremlins) but overall this was a very successful shakedown!

You need to change the spark plugs. those engines benefit greatly from fresh plugs, as they foul plugs easily. Your jetting is more than likely off because it's jetted for winter temperature. And also snowmobile engines are very sensitive to clutching. You guys are leaving a good 30%-40% of HP on the table. Thank you guys great work

@@shawnstillman736 that's part of it.. but the pressure waves in the pipe push it back onto the combustion chamber, basically superchariging it. The more air:fual you can jam into the engine, the more power it'll make. this is why they are so sensitive to the exhaust system.. hence the term "tuned pipe" and when it is operating at its highest efficiency, that is "on the pipe", you can change the way the power is made by changing the pipe. That's also why 9/10 snowmobile powered go karts have less than half the engine's stock HP. Nobody seems to understand this lol

@@rhull3939 Dude, you are not joking... My buddy and I were coming off a wilderness lake Up North after dark and as we approached the landing we heard the craziest sh*t ever. It sounded like two people talking impossibly fast to each other in some otherworldly language over a pretty good distance on either side of a bay we were in. We sat out in the boat for a good 15 minutes hearing the same sound occasionally until it seemed to stop. We decided to go in and as were were dragging the boat onshore the sounds started again, only really close. Then we heard a big crash in the brush and what was basically half a dead tree landed about ten feet away from us. Our car was 200 feet up a dirt landing and we ditched our fishing stuff and ran to it. Once we were in the car we felt pretty safe, but we still had to get the boat and our gear. We had some fireworks in the car so we decided to use them to try to scare whatever it was we thought we were hearing away. After about 30 minutes of occasional firework shooting off we armed ourselves with mortars and shells, went and got our stuff and got the heck out of there.

I came here to say the same thing. I wonder if they kept the jetting the same as it was from how it was equipped in a snowmobile? Assuming stock jetting from the factory is typically good from 0-20 degrees F. You could easily go down 2 jet sizes and maybe even drop the needles a notch to clean up the mid range. It's possible you could even go leaner because the time spent in the mid range and WOT is so short on an application like this.

That is an AWESOME race track. I'd love to take my go kart there but I live clean across the Country in Washington State. that 670 go kart is definitely fast but I think it could use a lot more tire on it. a little taller and wider all the way around. along with the the upgrades that you talked about. it definitely looks like it would be a blast to rip around that track in that kart. I'm betting that I could shave off some more time off that fast lap. time once I got to know the layout of that track. no matter it would still be a blast trying to anyway. something that you need to do is put that kart on some scales. just to see what the right and left side weight is. I bet it's like 80/20 or 90/10 percent without the driver. that's always going to make it handle poorly turning one way than to the other. the only cure for that would be to widen the the wheel track out so the engine is inside the wheels. and have a driver that is equal weight. that is a lot of weight hanging outside those wheels. but all and all it looked like a blast no doubt.

This is cool guys!!! I raced 500cc two stroke (non roll cage) karts on dirt tracks in central Fl in the 90’s, and raced 125cc shifters professionally in the early 2000’s. Get that thing corner balanced (best as you can), geared correctly, and put some front brakes on it and it will be a lot more fun, safe, and quick.
