Tire set up on the flat cart is for ovals which is why the right sides are so much larger. It's made to turn left. Put em on the same tires and run em like that.
@Chuckdiesel86 Жыл бұрын
It also needs weight on the right side. The seat is farther to the left on oval karts. What I wanna see is the circle kart motor on the road kart, it makes more sense because if you modify the circle kart to turn right you're basically just turning it into the road kart but worse.

@hybiepoo2 жыл бұрын
Agreed - I think unless you're running the same tyres on each kart, you're not really determining much at all. You could just see charles' kart had very little grip on any demanding corner.

@verigone26772 жыл бұрын
@@deangiacopassi1951 either shorten your right front suspension or lengthen your left front slightly for a start, those carts are setup assymetrical so that they always kind of pull a little left, let's you brake later and back on full throttle faster in the turns, since you know they are all the same direction. If you know how to fabricate, then you can do it all yourself with some scrap metal and what's already there, or for $100 - 200 you can get new hubs and parts to have a more even front suspension then another $100 to have someone fab any alterations if you don't know how to do that part.

I feel like Charles' kart would be fine with some new, sticky rear tires. The front end was holding fine, but the rear would just slide. It's got a straight rear axle, so there's no adjustment there. Seems like the front end was OK, but may need an alignment to make it a bit less twitchy. I'd like to see a rematch after the $500 kart gets new shoes.

I agree 150% , otherwise, he'd have smoked the ringer by such a large margin that I honestly feel he'd have lapped Ike easily. But he was chumped for sponsorship sake, I believe that to be the reason things were the way they were. Charles is an old dirt track racer from way back, and he's actually the best one at the majority of the little events they preform for the channel. Very obvious when you watch him when Ike's ego isn't around to be bruised by being second best because being one of the senior members. Not that I have anything against him, but it was very obvious when Charles joined full-time insecurities were getting to Ike

I raced karts for about 12 years... 20 years ago... Karts used the frame for torsion suspension so to remain competitive at the highest levels, karts are usually replaced every year or two. They'd also get fractionally lighter and have track tuned engines and gearing. Sometimes we would tap-out mid straight, but our out-of-corner acceleration would make up the difference.

So, the abandoned go kart, yea that isn't made for asphalt tracks. Its more of a dirt oval kart. Also, I know people are gonna question me, "How do you know?". I have a brother who owns 8 of them, runs them in many different series and I work on them. The fat tires on the back are meant for better grip on dirt. The engine that he has on there is for the small younger kids who are just starting out in karts. The bigger engines need a high powered electric gun to start them and each class of dirt kart has to meet weight restrictions. You can add weight to the karts. Wouldn't recommend using a dirt kart on asphalt, but hey, its your kart you do what you want with it.

I'm kinda glad all we had in my town was an old dirt track maintained by random drivers that showed up on the wknds. I had an old Margay with a huge McCulloch on it. The style was much different. Completely crossed up with two rooster tails coming off each tire through the corners. Back then our Yamaha shop sold a Yamie cart with a 100 or 125 on it. My chain saw motor would smoke the Yamaha fairly easily and four strokes didn't have a chance.

charles' cart needs some new, sticky tires and some weight redistribution. i think then he would be king of this track. that beat up old cart must have really been something in it's day. from the lap times you can tell a few things, john weighs the least, charles is the most cautious, and if they were all in similar carts, with similar weights, ike would come out on top. he's got the skill and fearlessness to be a really good race driver. this format works so far, but if you are going to be doing a lot of this, you might want to get a couple more cameras on tripods set up at different points on the track to capture the action better. if they were remote controlled with powered tilt, pan and zoom functions, with some practice one cameraman could operate the entire set up from a central location. install the entire control system in one of those large road cases on wheels that bands use for concerts, then system set up and tear down would be quick and simple, plus it would protect the expensive function control electronics and video switching systems from damage. if you also integrated a dvr with editing software into the system, you would then have an all in one unit to capture, record and edit anything you wanted to make a video of at your home base, or on location, and since you have made this a full time gig, it would be a worthwhile investment into your production company. bonus, with a little time spent in research, prolly right here on youtube, you could build the whole thing yourselves, and turn the build into a d.i.y. video series, you are named cars AND cameras after all. with a rig like that, you could prolly even make some extra money on the side filming other events such as weddings, parades, car shows, commercials for local businesses and the like, once you got the hang of operating the system. the world would be your oyster, the only thing holding you back would be limits of your imagination.

I left a VIR kart in the grass at the end of the backstretch once because on the cool down lap that no one ever uses as a cool down, one of the front spindles broke. I waited, and even waved my arms, but the track crew teenagers never saw me or realized one of their karts didn’t come back and they sent the next group out. So I hopped the fence so I was out of the way, walked back with the helmet and set it back in the rack. The track crew was looking at me funny, so I quickly said the steering had broke and they could find their kart over in the corner. Then walked out. Since it happened on the cool down lap of my second session, it was still a fun time though. Nothing like a group of racers at a rental kart track.

It’s super hard to get a oval chassis to work on a road course. The chassis it’s self is way stiffer than the Tillotson. The Tillotson is made to flex to help it handle. Oval kart is built to work kinda like a teeter totter with the cross weight is designed. So when you turn it transfer weight to the to the right front end right rear
@GRid-yk2ru2 жыл бұрын
So what would be physically different between the frames? Beefier tubing or completely different shape design? I know everyone is blaming tires but I'd like to know if there is much difference in the frame and steering geometry. It seemed like a bunch of things going on that were holding the oval cart back.
@sparky872132 жыл бұрын
@@GRid-yk2ru they are designed completely different is the biggest reason. The oval chassis is completely offset where the road racing chassis is designed to be more driver in the center and closers to 50/50 weight distribution. It’s actually easier to make a road racing chassis get around an oval than it is to get a oval chassis go around a road course. Not to mention the tires staggered for making left turns only on the oval kart. The ride side tires on a oval kart are 12 inches wide and the left front tire is 4.5 inches wide and the left rear is 6 inches. That’s to make the kart naturally turn left. Where the road racing isn’t staggered where it’s designed to go right and left. Probably with some modifying and lots of tweaking you could the oval kart faster around the road course but will probably never be as fast as the road racing kart.
@GRid-yk2ru2 жыл бұрын
@@sparky87213 thanks for the explanation. With the body on, it's difficult to see the differences. The driver doesn't look that much offset but I guess it doesn't take much on such a light cart. I never would have guessed that the tires were that much different in size!
