something else you can mess with is a 30/40 series styled shifter pulley. it goes from 1:3 to 1:1 and than the other gear has the other ratio connected to the chain. also can lighten the spring on that to get to the full gear quicker or slower and can swap springs to tune it to go quicker. My ct200u can go 60+ i need to balance the tires though lol that or i have a bent axle. it has a subaru ex13 5.0 overhead cam and valve with push rods. hot little motor. stock exhaust aswell just gov taken out and replaced the carb when I got it. it likes to dump fuel which is odd i have to back the throttle screw off if its sitting. I say this and I speak from experience! You will be better off with the fairing bolted to the frame! I put a similar fairing on my sv650 and the wind pulled the bars all over the place at speed! It was sometimes uncomfortably unstable. I can only imagine how bad it would be on this.
@JohnMGibby Жыл бұрын
Just my $0.02... I think having a smooth fairing in front of your legs will give the air less resistance. The air hitting all the bike parts and your legs, even tucked in is a lot more air resistance. Also, a lot of air and salt/dirt will get up in the tail section with no bottom on it. Either totally enclose it, or add some vents to let the air out.
@Mrshotshell Жыл бұрын

The exhaust needs to be center exit. That way, the exhaust gases are helping to fill the aerodynamic vacuum at the back, and the vacuum is drawing the gas out of the exhaust pipe, reducing back pressure on the piston during the exhaust stroke. Koenigsegg, Pagani, Ferrari you name it, they are all doing in to their cars.

Some advice passed on from my father to you 3 guys...... Him and my uncle raced KZ 650s in the 1990s. they raced 1/2, 1, and 2 mile for speed, not time. In the stock class you bolt on anything, but no mods and no upgrades( bigger carbs, header, etc). Dad came up with an idea, he took 14 inch long by 10 inch wide thin plexiglass and using hose clamps and epoxy made deflectors that went from the bottom of the triple tree to the axle. They were angled about 25 degrees. he said in half mile it added 9-11MPH. While not very aerodynamic, the amount deflected from the legs was greater than the drag from the legs. He suggest doing it. an increase in 15% weight, done correctly, will yield a 25% increase in aerodynamics, increase speed exponentially. I hope that makes sense to y'all.
@lifewithjonathan5277 Жыл бұрын
Just a suggestion for next time, y'all make something out of fiberglass or carbon fiber. Use disposable plastic instead of cardboard. It peels off easier. I would also suggest putting a small wheel in the tail just in case y'all do a wheelie. Bike looks great love the video.
@joedaly4195 Жыл бұрын
Streamlining the nose is worth a lot more than streamlining the tail. The entry has more significant drag than the exit. Your nose fairing doesn't cover enough of the rider's frontal area to be really effective.

You should look at how they make curved speaker boxes with fiberglass. You can stretch a fleece blanket over it all and brush some resin on it, then add the rest of the fiberglass. It makes the curves come out nice and smooth.
@kevinsellsit5584 Жыл бұрын
The wheels and specifically the tires are ideal and MUCH safer than the stretch-o-matic knobby tires. I like the body work, and front fender looks great for a one-off piece. For the sake of educating the masses, I'll share some of the fiberglass knowledge I learned when the company I worked for decided it would be "first to market" 4 inch and 6 inch cowl induction hoods for the then new 84 Corvette with the massive tilt front end. As Ike said, "you make a Mold". But that is not the first step. First you make a Plug. A plug is an EXACT duplicate of what you want the outside of the part you are making to look like. Plugs are usually made of wood, clay, body filler or other easy to carve materials. If the part you want to make already exists, like the Corvette hood in our case, all you have to do is find some idiot in 1983 who will loan you his brand new 84 Corvette and let you Bondo on a wooden 6 inch cowl on it then destroy his paint job by laying fiberglass all over his new car. Apparently, the demand for a cowl hood was great enough that we found just such a sucker. So the plug must be perfect, painted and finished to a mirror shine. Any flaw will exist in every part you make. When perfect, a thin layer of mold release is applied and a thick layer of gelcoat. When dry, a massive amount of fiberglass, wood, metal whatever it takes to make a very rigid mold that will last for hundreds of parts. Usually, the mold will have to be split to release the part so strong flanges must be applied so it can be bolted back together for each use. We scrapped the first two tries and had dudes Corvette for 4 months. Anyway, once you have a good mold...lots of thin, light, beautiful parts can be made at one or two a day from a single mold. That is the beauty of fiberglass, if you want to make a go-kart body you might as well make 50, 100, whatever. That is why Ike made just one. looks good !
@jarekmace1536 Жыл бұрын
Regarding the roughness due to using cardboard, consider using styrene sheet as a base. It is smoother, more flexible, and can be softened with a heat gun/hair dryer to make curves. It is also available in many thicknesses, from .2mm out to 5mm. Also, the front fender could have been made more covering by using a 2-piece design. Hang the rear half from the rear of the forks and overlap the trailing edge of the front half on the rear. this would allow a fender to go farther to the ground without using the inverted U design Isaac mentioned. Check out some of the cruiser/bagger bikes for aero-style 'glass works.

This is such a cool build! What do you think of the idea of finding someone to 3d scan the bike and run it through airshaper to get some aero tweaking suggestions?
@josephgermany7446 Жыл бұрын
Love the project guys, just wanna ask : How is the front fender supposed to make it more aerodynamic when it's the same shape as the wheel, but bigger? Needs to come to more of a point in the front, otherwise you've only increased the surface area of what is pushing against the air. You have better areo on the rear end than the front. Copy the rear and put that on the front and make it wide enough so the front wheel can turn inside without hitting it (attached to the frame, not to the wheel or steering, but encloses the entire steering section)
@CMPLT_PLYZ Жыл бұрын
The wheel is spinning causing the wind to go through it and get mixed with the wind being twisted and churned by the spokes, the scoop allows the oncoming wind to roll over the top instead of through it which will be more aerodynamic and give it better stability. when it comes to adding more to the front its important to keep in mind that you can easily over do it and counteract your work by adding too much weight or surface area. while yes that new surface my be smoother it will never completely mitigate the original air resistance of that area applied on the bike. so eventually u get to a point where more is worst.
@josephgermany7446 Жыл бұрын
@@CMPLT_PLYZ all that explanation and not realizing I know a bit about aerodynamics seeing as how I was an aviation structural mechanic. I've had more education on aerodynamics than most people commenting here. While the fender may mitigate some of the drag created by the wheel, it creates just as much by having more surface area than the wheel, not to mention it only covers HALF the wheel, so it pretty much cancels itself out.
