Күн бұрын

Last week, we took a stock 6.5 horsepower Predator 212cc hemi engine and modified it extensively with a 24mm flat slide Mikuni carburetor, oversized valves, a big cam, an elongated rod, and more to make 20 horsepower at up to 9,000 RPM.
Today, we're taking it for a ride on the American Express 2.0 chassis with both a cheap centrifugal clutch, and the expensive 3 disc 6 spring adjustable racing clutch. Needless to say, this Predator 212 is very very powerful. We're hoping this will get our Delorean back to the future inspired go kart build to 88mph!
Thanks for Watching!

Bring the stall speed of that clutch higher up in the rpm range and it will leave even harder with less clutch slippage. Like a rocket!

How you change stall speed in those types of clutches?
@cwthemachinist
@cwthemachinist 3 жыл бұрын
@@oxyjohn3051 in the primary clutch there are weights or rollers that can be swapped for heavier or lighter ones. That changes the speed in which centrifugal force acts on them. Also. The secondary clutch has a resistance spring that can be changed for heavier or lighter. That changes the speed in which the primary clutch can act upon it/or force the belt down into the sheaves creating a smaller driven pulley.

Or you can do what I did with my 79cc and move the clutch to the transmission shaft that comes with the kits and connect them with two identical sprockets to start. I did this because I needed to have an alternator turned by the crankshaft, and there simply wasn't enough space for the pulley and clutch, and I wasn't going to spend MORE money on a pulley clutch and the jackshaft pulley to use my gears. I'll post a video when I get the bike running again.

It's kinda cringey to me also to see them run around the yard on slicks and 2 inches of clearance. The chassis may not be strong enough to take all the flex for too long. My racing chassis cracked just from normal track days. If I took it in that yard it would last 2 minutes.

Freakin Sweet!! Well done guys, and as always, thanks for sharing it with us! I'd like to share one thing if I may, regarding clutches... I've built and messed around with a lot of these motors... A few years ago, I put together a really "hopped up" clone for a drag racing mini bike and I couldn't afford one of those "fancy" several hundred dollar clutches, but really needed a higher rpm engagement (stall)... What I did was, took apart a "regular" $25 Max Torque clutch (removed snap ring & pulled the bell off)... Then, I took off the spring that goes around the shoes, cut about a half inch off of it, and put it back together... Basically, the idea is to increase the amount of spring tension in order to raise the required rpm for the weight of the shoes to overcome it and engage with the bell ... I did this a couple of times, cutting a bit more off the spring each time until I was at the rpm where I wanted it to engage... IMPORTANT ---> It's better to cut off a small amount at a time and re-test, because if you cut too much, there's no going back without having to get a new spring... PS - I want to be perfectly clear, that this clutch modification is NOT equal to the performance, quality, and longevity of one of those racing clutches... But it works pretty damn good on something you're not intending to use for actual sanctioned competition, and is for people that just enjoy playing with this stuff (and/or racing with a few friends every once in a while) and don't want to spend a ton of money to do it... Hope this may help some people out there

Interesting, I thought it (disc clutch) would hook up more abruptly, then again you just got it on there, I know you can adjust the stall and all that. Should be fast, I suspect that wobble/twitchyness is just either a steering adjustment (maybe move the rod ends closer to the center of the steering shaft for less input) or caster/camber you guys know the drill though, good luck with it!

You can get a split key to advance your timing. Awesome fun though!!! I used to work at a race track in Columbiana AL that used clones of these on the rental carts. I would put a racing rod and piston in, remove the governor, rejet the carb, advance the timing and change the box exhaust out for a header. They would run for about a month before puking the rod. Such good times!

@@that_sicksix1719 actually I got a modified 305 CC overhead valve Briggs with 3rd bearing support bearing Horseman rod with Billet cam Billet flywheel custom head with oversized valves via Clint Board racing Mikuni fuel pump Mikuni jet ski carb set to run methanol. It's trick offset chassis. My brother's is a coyote free roller with a similar engine build then we run them exclusively on ice. When there is ice. This year was a wash. Didn't get cold enough in Michigan to make the Lower Lakes safe. And I do apologize my Green Envy got the best of me. Yeah a 25 horsepower 4 stroke does not compared with your toys but I tell you what their one hell of a blast when you got three or four of them built up with cold cutter racing screws. On a big oval of ice. Keep building I'll keep watching. And as far as working for my living I do it everyday even during this pandemic. I drive for UPS for last 25 years my dad my brother and my Buddy's all have carts and we love it when it gets cold. My dad lives on a lake in southeast Michigan. nothing like the sound of 305cc overhead valve revving at 8200 RPM. Direct drive 3 inches off the ice. And just as close to the guy in front and or the guy behind. And by the way I'm 53 and my brother is 49 and my dad 75. "We're not out to show we're out to go" that was something my dad taught us when we were teenagers running studded dirt bikes around Bull Ring oval on that big ass Lake. Well it used to be a big ass Lake in our Minds when we were kids ,have fun but always be safe

Wind drag, turbulence and movement .. things change at higher speeds. After noticing the size of your canoes *(lots of turbulence)* @ 14:06, you're going to need a some type of nose cone or aerodynamics if you plan on the speeds you're shooting for. That's probably some of the steering problems that you've already experienced .. *_Safety first guys!_*

The tyres will need to be correctly balanced too. They shake like a MF if they're even slightly out on a full sized race track.

Building a 212 for my manco dingo. Also doing a custom front independent suspension system and using a 6 speed peerles transaxle from a riding mower with aftermarket gears. I plan on making about 20ish hp. No rear suspension. Its a 2 seater cart but im moving th steering wheel to the middle to be a wide oneseater. My plan is to paint the frame red and the rims white and make it a small shifter version of the honda oddesy go kart/buggy.

Adjust the spring heights on the 3 disk clutch, you can hear it chattering due to uneven engagement. they need reset after first heat cycle.

i feel like the basic clutch kicked in at lower rpm's. which makes it so you have more power and less slipping when starting... unless thats not whats wanted.
