In the U.S., in Feb. 2021, I purchased the HR-V EX AWD. The utility of the interior is excellent! My friends could not believe it when I drove up in this little car, opened the tailgate, and pulled out a 6-foot step ladder. Passing on the highway can get exciting, due to the underpowered 1.8 four-cylinder through its CVT and AWD, but mpg's are about 25 in the city and 30 on the highway. After one year, I'm willing to trade the AWD and sunroof for a power driver's seat with memory and a better stereo. When the Ins. Highway Safety Institute made their side-impact vehicle heavier and faster, the HR-V performed the poorest score in its class. But all things considered, I wouldn't trade this HR-V for any of its same-priced competition. I look forward to many years of reliable transportation with better-than-average resale value.

@joeuno3854 жыл бұрын
I know this video is based on the 2019s, but I just bought a 2020 Kona SEL Plus AWD. And I can honestly say it is an exceptional vehicle for the price. I am used to driving a 2000 Civic Coupe with fully adjustable suspension upgrades. Kona's drive is much more comfortable and feels pretty close in cornering speeds of my smaller/lighter and very agile Civic. The video mentions suspension of each vehicle and my response is; I enjoy a bit stiffer suspension vs the cloudy unstable feeling of softer suspensions. Also the steering feel is right where it needs to be; I'd rather feel a bit of resistance than have it feel too light. Power delivery is pretty good as well. In normal mode it times it feels a bit slow to react to a hill or after a traffic slow down, but the Kona can easily be sport shifted to account for these moments or a quick double tap of the accelerator to force a downshift. Sport mode feels aggressive and if I were in my 20s, with no kids, I would love driving in this mode all the time. AWD can be locked if needed and has an engine braking feature for driving down hills to avoid overheating your brakes. Gas mileage is around 29mpg combined but for a highway only drive I could see it reaching 32+mpg.(AWD this is pretty good and better than my FWD Civic which was fully rebuilt and well maintained).The interior is pretty bland and plasticky, but feels sturdy and doesn't look terrible at all. SEL Plus has Infinity speakers, a sunroof and heated seats(driver seat is also equipped with electronic adjustment controls) Kona also has all the electronic bells and whistles: Bluetooth, Android Auto(Google Assistant: phone, text, calendar, Maps and music; all at the press of a steering wheel button for voice commands), Hyundai BlueLink( the app features remote: monitoring(includes milage and maintenance recommendations), locking/unlocking, starting/shut off; also on the mirror an SOS button(in case of accident or breakdown) and a BlueLink button to find and schedule an appointment at Hyundai service stations; BlueLink botton can also be used in conjunction with Android Auto to help find POIs using voice commands), Satellite radio, front collision avoidance detection, lane assist, blindspot monitoring, auto dimming rear view mirror and plenty monitoring displays, including attention level monitoring, to choose to look at on the screen between the analog meters. The trunk space is really the only drawback for me but since the vehicle is equipped with roof rails I'm installing a roof basket to allow for more storage on camping trips and when traveling. I also seem to really enjoy the styling of the exterior a bit more than the Honda and Mazda but to each their own on aesthetics. My quirk with this video is the fact that the HR-V won on basically interior space and drive comfort and in reality it gets worse gas mileage, has less power, cost more, and although Honda is known for reliability it doesn't have the warranty that Hyundai provides. After watching the video I was definitely surprised to hear them announce the HR-V as the winner. According to this video; I feel aesthetically the Mazda wins; driving performance the Hyundai; Space/Comfort the Honda. All three are great options but I definitely would do more investing to see which vehicle is the best bang for your buck!

Even with 141 hp it is a zippy and fun car to drive. Has no problem quickly pulling out into traffic. It has knobs for the heater which I do prefer over having to use the touch screen.The headrests on the back seat go down level with the back of the seat which gives it great visibility. I get around 33-34 mpg without using the ECON button which is great. It actually gives a more comfortable ride than my CR-V did and the seats are extremely comfortable. I am 5’9 and there is plenty of leg and head room. All in all this video is right. The Honda HR-V is a great vehicle.

I have the 2018 Honda RS HRV and I absolutely LOVE it! I came from a Mazda 2 and did test drive a CX-3 as I originally had my sights set on getting that, but have to say once I sat in the Honda HRV and took it for the same hour long test drive that I did the CX-3 I just fell in love with the HRV - by the way for the test drive I too was driving a VT-i. Everything that's said in this test is why I chose the HRV - ie: comfort, size inside, the feel of it whilst driving etc etc. When I went back to actually purchase the vehicle they had a RS model in the showroom and well that's when the Love truly blossomed .. :) The RS model is such a good looking car that you cannot but fall for it....hehe.. Plus the upgrades of Leather Seating, nice18" tyres and the mag's with the piano black trim, to compliment the piano black trim in the body work just kept adding to the love! lol I have the Lunar Silver and with the Piano Black body trim...it rocks! I'll stop here as obviously you can tell I enjoy and like my car just that little bit. Honda rules this trio - comfortable and quiet, spacious and practical. Less sporty than the other two but none of these are sporting at all, really. And I found the back seat room in the CX-3 to be a joke. Okay for toddlers. Not okay for teen and adult rear passengers. And the ride was fairly harsh and flinty. We got a Honda HR-V. We really LOVED our car, but here are the things that didn't work for me. The touch screen was a tad slow, navigation on this was real weird so we basically used our phones to navigate, also, when a song was playing the screen wouldn't tell me the artist or the song, which was annoying. The charging station being underneath the surface was a challenge to plug, but it was a great way to use space, still a liiil annoying. the touch screen for heating, AC and such was also a lil unresponsive sometimes which made it uncomfortable to change while I was driving. There is a gas-economy button, but I didn't notice a difference when this was on or off, it was basically the same. Backseat chairs were comfortable, the only thing that would bother be is the fact that the head rests and forwardly inclined so it feel weird to laid back completely. Also, no ventilation in the back so I had to blast the AC/heater until it reached my guests. It was definitely an upgrade from what we had, so it felt good though, so here are the good things: PROS: MOON ROOF, such a wonderful option to have if you live in hot weather (not so much if you are from the east coast). People really liked the extra air coming in through the top instead of the sides, so this was great. SIDE VIEW SCREEN, so when I signal right, the screen turns on the right side camera and gave me a COMPLETE view for bicycles, bikes or smaller cars (my FAVORITE thing), I just felt so confident merging into my right lane knowing I wasn't going to crash w/ anyone (not available for the left obvi). This car had heating seats which is a PLUS. I love a car with heating seats because I don't need to use the heating system, I just heat my chair and I'm a happy camper. Finally, this car has SPACE. You fit me and around 4 other adults comfortably (usually 5'8, 160 pounds each), it just feels like you have room. you know? so if you have friends or family no one is going to complaint. And all of these perks BUT as cheap as the competition. bam! We decided to end our lease and change a new lease and try the Mazda 2019 cx-30. Which is almost like the Mazda cx-3. I'll update this once I start using it. Hope this helps someone. :)

Each country has different specs for the cars . I just got my HR-V two weeks ago and I absolutely love it . It is the practicality that made me pick the HRV as compared to other baby SUVs . Mine wasn’t the RS version but I got the Modulo kit .

I think to make the comparison more complete, do consider to include the running cost for each car model, how much to service each car. hope this helps.

In my opinion, CX3 doesnt even classify as an SUV - more like a glorified hatchback. HR-V is arguably better in most scenarios because of the versatile storage, its a shame its infotainment/interior is so dated and no AWD on offer. Kona seems to be aimed at younger/more adventurous demographic, if you can live with average storage space. Kona is best car here for sure, but if I had 2-3 kids, I would probably go for HR-V.

I love my CX3, it looks and feels very luxury compared to the others when I test drove them. Honda feels basic and Hyundai is just not what I was looking for

I enjoyed the review but, as usual in these crossover reviews, there are two KEY elements that were NOT discussed: roof rack carrying capacity and towing capacity! There are plenty of folks, like myself, who enjoy biking and kayaking, both of which need to be carried outside of the vehicle. I would love to see someone FINALLY giving us information about these important features, so that we can make a better informed decision!

Disappointing you didn't review the Kona with the 1.6L Turbo that you can get in the whole range. I test drove a few Kona's recently and that engine makes it super fun to drive.

Test drove all three and then some. About the only ones in this segment I didn't look at were the Jeep Renegade because I simply didn't want anything to do with a Fiat and the Buick Encore because I wanted the import reliability, longevity and resale value. I must say I found the Mazda CX3 more quiet on the freeway than the Hyundai Kona. I also found the CX3 to handle better than either. The Honda just didn't do anything for me. The Hyundai was a contender but I ended up buying, actually leasing, the Mazda CX3. Never purchase/finance a new vehicle. Lease it! You'll save a bunch of money in interest. Run the term of the lease and then finance the balance. Kids, passengers and cargo are not a factor. If I need a larger vehicle I have a Toyota Tacoma for that. If the new Toyota C-HR came in AWD I definitely would have looked at it as I'm partial to the brand. The CX3 is a nice little vehicle and is a bad azz is the snow and ice even with the all season tires it came with. As long as ground clearance isn't an issue it will run circles around my Tacoma in the snow. So, if you're looking for a little gas sipping, AWD commuter car that's superior in the snow and really a joy a drive that won't break the bank then look no further than the Mazda CX3.

I just came across this video and was very interested in your ratings. I chose the Hyundai Kona not only for its looks, but it’s wonderful warranty and free maintenance. Personally I liked its more compact space since only two people will drive it. While I’m a huge Subaru fan, I had to give up my Forrester because of health issues I had a really had time getting in and out. The Kona solved all those problems for me.

I’ve been wanting a Mazda CX-3 forever. I’m currently driving a 2009 Chevy Cobalt and it’s time for an upgrade, though my car has treated me very well, and I love it very much, I want something bigger for road trips. My Cobalt doesn’t fit a damn thing in it, when you go shopping for just one day in fills the entire trunk and backseats, that’s not even including the luggage, if I have a few suitcases I can forget about shopping. This is why I want to upgrade to a small suv.

I’ve been driving a 2018 CX-3 for 3 years and just picked up a new 2021 lease yesterday. It’s an incredibly fun to drive car. I don’t really agree with everything said in the review here, but I’m in the states and I don’t have kids. With it, you get many standard tech and safetly features that aren’t offered in the other cars, or that you’d have to pay extra for. If you have kids, maybe go for the Honda, but I’ve always thought it was such a boring car. The CX-3 is anything but boring.

Should review with the seats set the same. The CX3 has the passengers seat set beyond the side window pillar. You're bound too have less leg room if you do this:) Ya its a small SUV but this review is flawed when it comes to the back seat leg room. Yes i figured it out, your reclining in the CX-3 and Kona, but not in the H-RV:)

I test drove a Kona and a CX-3 on the same day back in 2018 after determining that I was going to lease one of the two. At the trim level I tested, the Kona felt so sluggish to drive. I had my foot to the floor just to get up a small hill and onto the highway. For some reason, the delership couldn’t get the price down to where I wanted either. My decision was made for me when I drove the CX-3. It felt so responsive and was just really fun to drive. It had pep in the engine and the turning was perfect. Getting on the highway after flipping the “Sport mode” switch is really fun too. It also had a lot of interior and safety features the Kona lacked, and for a cheaper monthly price. I’m in the states and it’s sad that cars this size can’t catch on. Too many people over here have giant SUVs for absolutely no reason. Anyway, my story goes that I’ve driving a CX-3 for 3 years now and just turned in my lease for a 2021 model yesterday. It’s unfortunate that there is only one trim level now, but this trim still has many features that other cars at this class simply don’t offer. (And I was able to get into the new car with $0 down, gap insurance that I didn’t have before, and my payment is only $10 more per month than the 2018 car.) Also, I don’t have kids and cargo space wasn’t much of a factor for me. I wanted a small SUV that could carry groceries and was big enough to ocassionally transport all of our camping supplies. So it really came down to driving feel. The Kona didn’t even come close to the CX-3. Also, the Kona in the video must have had the better engine. I do remember that the Kona could have a bigger, better engine, but that it was an expensive upgrade. I’m a bit confused why they pit an upgraded Kona model with a Sport CX-3 model (which is the lowest CX-3 model.)

I have an active last thing I wanted was a sunroof or leather seats as it's just me and a large dog. He can see out the windows fine. The plastic is better than fabric on the doors a quick wipe cleans it. Plenty of space if I have passengers as I'm only 5 ft 4. There is a lack of boot space but I have seen worse in larger suvs. The only fault I have found is that at high speed if I lower the rear window at high speed its a must to lower the front ones also or the noise is horrendous. For the price (I did get some extras) I was really happy. To get the same set up in the Mazda (for me Honda was never an option) would have cost me way more also you can add or remove functions you don't want such as land veering assist etc. The two big drawbacks for me with the Mazda apparently it doesn't have lumbar support in the driver's chair and I'm unsure if a full spare fits in the wheel well. Both those things were a must have for me. I have had people in my back seat tell me it's comfy and they are large adults. Also I don't like key less starting or that engine saving mode thing just more things I might have to fix in the future
@dianalatimer53175 жыл бұрын
@@randicollier1367 why if you wanted turbo etc would you buy a small SUV in the first place? Surely for that amount of money you had better options? I got the active and it's perfect for me and my lifestyle but I did my research and test drove it. Also I was set on the Mazda until I drove the Kona
@randicollier13674 жыл бұрын
@@dianalatimer5317 because I was under the gun and my lease expiring. Dealer changed hands and was not given many options within my budget. I like being able to jus slide in on yr h we seat instead climbing in like my Sonata that I really miss. I should have just bo ou g Jun t the Sonata even if payment slightly higher. found out that of I had purchased it I would not have had to pay the over mileage. My own fault should have walked away.
