You took the mystery on how to perform this service! It looks like a piece of cake once you remove the harmonic balancer. I was always wary of the cams being out of sync. Thanks to you, this is one less job the dealer will get! Oh, fantastic format on the video, no unnecessary enhancements, very concise.

Terrific content! I love your TL vids. You’ve made me a master mechanic…almost! Lol. I’ll be happy to spend the $1000 dollars. Just don’t have the tools. Patience. Oil changes, motor mounts, serpentine belt, ok. Not this!!

What's the physics behind heavier socket removing the bolt more easily than the lighter socket?

Best video out there for Acura TL! So much detail within the process and not just listing steps. Giving me lots of confidence to do this myself. 2006, and tensioner needs to be replaced. However dont have a big budget, so wondering if i should just replace the tensioner, and leave the water pump and reuse the old belt 9if its in ok shape, of course). Thanks for making this!
@andrewallen999310 ай бұрын
Belt is dirty cheap, less than 20 bucks for a high quality one, its such a pain to remove everything to replace the belt that while it is in pieces it's easy to replace the tensioner bearing and water pump at the same time. If your vehicle doesn't have a reputation for wearing out tensioners and water pumps don't replace them.

Just did the whole thing, and skipped the WP. It looked absolutely perfect, no leaks, no drips, no wet grime.
@nbarcenas03 Жыл бұрын
The timing belt isn't the main issue even if its a bit soft due to age. The hydraulic tensioner are prone to failure due to any circumstance. Even brand new hydraulic tensioners can fail prematurely.

Great, one more fear. I just did my second TB service a few months ago at 210k mi, used all stealership parts (came out to $500 on a "combo" deal for a TB, WP, Idler, Tensioner pulley, Tensioner, cam seals + crank seal). Super duper pleased, just to find a LOT of people warning about premature tensioner failure. Praying mine lasts for another 105k miles.

@@summushieremiasclarkson4700 $500 and you did the labor. Great deal. I paid $347 a while back. Yes, they can fail. Try to inspect from time to time if you hear anything. I like to reach from top of rear cam gear, down towards the hydraulic tensioner to feel for tapping when car is started and when car is warmed up. Thats how I found my new OEM hydraulic tensioner seem off. Once removed I noticed oil seeping. So I had the P2R manual tensioner and installed it with Blue Gates belt. So far so good. But I still inspect.

@@nbarcenas03 Thanks. I'm hoping the genuine Honda tensioner is of higher quality, but parts quality across the board is down for all manufacturers.

Great vid. When those belts break on a Honda. They likely destroy the engine. (Interference Engine)
@publicmail2 Жыл бұрын
I stay away from those, of course if you stay on top of belts, but I don't like it. I understand they do this for more hp. I have a timing gear on my 89 buick. Manufactures know a good % of cars will end up in crusher with these belts so they love it.

My 95 honda odyssey snapped timing belt on hwy 3 valves bent. . I made repairs. Now has near 400,000 miles
@summushieremiasclarkson47002 ай бұрын
@@publicmail2 That's not true, these Unitta belts that Acura uses are extremely high quality + the engine is internally balanced, which means very low strain on the timing components. Interference engines make more power, less emissions, much higher gas mileage, etc. etc. Now of course you could make the arguments for chains (noisy, guides wear out anyway) or gears (extremely noisy and complex to service, plus there is a significant amount of friction losses). I prefer belts, as they are quiet, smooth, refined, easy to replace, and typically very cheap. Plus,you can replace associated components like water pump, so its worth it.

Geez this is definitely not a beginner or even intermediate job. It took you over a week?? This is a job for people who have an extra car and can stand to wait at least a few days before having to use their car. Most Indy shops charge around 500-800 so for the average person, that seems more worth it. Especially since you literally had to buy a new impact gun for like 200-300 bucks without the battery. Either way awesome video
@rosieclark3661 Жыл бұрын
Your right about the quality of thise original timing belts they rarely break it’s usually the tensioner that’s the culprit my 2000 EX 3.0 J30 V6 sedan before the notorious BX series tranny coughed out had 249,678 K miles and very little blow by still had original water pump and timing belt and tensioner no click during start no leaks from pump unlike my 2010 V6 J35 VCM BS it’s got a133,200 K miles and it’s tensioner is already clicking during startup and needs a valve adjustment Honda really messed up these engines with that stupid VCM and they knew it and after getting sued they stopped making them and I refuse to buy that turbo 4 crap they have now

I think its recommended 100k or 8 years. Personally I wouldn't, I just bought a 2008 with 85k...Think I'll do it early based on age

Yes the Honda service department would recommend that because they want money. Not really needed until 90k-100k unless it sounds like it needs to be done. Idk that’s from my experience
