I just did this for my '03 Infiniti I35. The deep offset wrench used at 3:50 is REQUIRED, I could not get to the bolt using a normal wrench or ratchet w/ extension, it's just too tight in there. Went to the hardware store and bought a set of these. Also, when I was doing this job I discovered my power steering belt tension bolt was missing. In the video, he mentions this bolt is "reverse thread" - the bolt itself is not reverse thread, but tightening the bolt loosens the belt. I used a normal M8x1.25 bolt to loosen the belt enough to take it off, but to tighten the belt all the way, you need the OEM part which actually spreads two pieces apart when loosening it (which pushes the PS pulley farther out, which puts more tension on the belt). You can see in this video the head of the bolt sticks out a bit at 4:05 - a lip on the bolt, on the other side of the bracket is pushing down on the bracket, which lifts the PS pulley. My car has been running for who knows how long without this part - there's enough tension on the belt without it, but I ordered the part anyway.

thanks for the vid. did this on a 2006 maxima. a bit of a pain to reach some of the screws but doable. v belt started squeaking for the first 5-10 minutes when accelerating but goes away after its warmed up. think its a faulty belt or needs tightening?
@CarsNToys
@CarsNToys 10 жыл бұрын
Hey Don. You can tell if the belt needs replacement if there are stress cracks. If so, replace the belt. If the belt looks ok then it may need a little tightening. (If you hear the belt squeaking after a rain storm it's a good indication the belt needs tightening.)

xfactor33 How are the tools you're using? I've had success in the past 'upgrading' to a better tool with a long handle. If that doesn't work for you, try using a good set of vise grips. Just replace the bolt once you remove it.

CarsNToys Thanks for responding. I have used basic tools but they are pretty good. I have used a wrench, ratchet and even went and bought a new pair of vise grips and nothings been working. Do you think an extractor would fit on and work?
@CarsNToys
@CarsNToys 10 жыл бұрын
xfactor33 I'd probably stick with a long nose vise grip. Unfortunately, the space is so damn tight. You can try an extractor but it's won't be easy working in that area. I had a similar problem replacing rear struts in that I had to use a vise grip to remove the bolt. Click on the link and fast forward to 3:30 minutes in the video. Take a look at the thickness of the vice grip. You want something with a large surface area...kzbin.info/www/bejne/aXXLn5ydramUi8k

Great video! If the tensioner pulley for the main (alternator/AC) belt needs to be replaced, would you be able to access it from the same area after removing the belt? It looks like if you completely remove the pulley nut that you loosened before backing the tension off the belt then the pulley would slide off the bolt, but maybe there's more to it. Please advise on this. Thank you!
