I just did my 96 Infiniti, it's the same as your Nissan Maxima. The front lock bolt would have been easier with an offset 12mm. I was struggling with a regular wrench. I have a set of ratcheting wrenches. I have a offset 14mm and it would have been nice if I had a 12mm. That back lock bolt behind the ps pump was tight as I've ever seen it!!! WOW If anyone can change these belts out, they are great!!! Thanks to your video I didn't give up. Your video was my driving force to keep going. Thanks!!!

The belt tensioner bolt was broken off on this Nissan Quest. The last owner didn't even have the Spark plugs tightened down. When we got the vehicle, I noticed the power steering belt kept squeaking every time I turned the corner. The belt was not even tight. I found various other issues as well including the two bolts missing on the intake plenum. I hate working on a vehicle someone else worked on and screwed up.

You can still remove the pump from the vehicle. Once you remove the 14mm on the back of the pump, you'll have two front bolts to remove. Then slide the pump out. Inspect the adjusting nut and verify it's seated and working correctly....You can often quality mechanic tool sets on sale. Stick with known brands such as Craftsman. Hope this helps.

@erroldillon154810 ай бұрын
I just did this job. The key to this job is to get under the car and put your hand into the back of the power steering pump. You also need to use your left hand to hold the power steering pump up in the front. I don't think many people have an old car like this. I still have one and I love it. The way to put the screw into the adjusting area is very tricky. You have to use two fingers. This is the hardest job I've ever done with parts on a car. If anyone can do this job they are a Master Mechanic. You have to adjust the adjusting bolt and mechanism to fit the hole. It's a chess game in action to do this job. It's all easy after you figure it out. This job is the job that says it all.

Are you the same guy that left a comment on this video 10 years ago? Congrats on successfully completing the job twice. I made a big mistake not taking the pulley off before removing the pump. @CarsNToys11 жыл бұрын
Code 1447 is strictly used for emission purposes only. It wouldn't cause a slow crank. Are you sure the battery has enough voltage? If you have a multimeter, test the battery for at least 12v when the vehicle is off. You can also go to your local auto part supplier and they'll test your battery for free. Also check battery voltage once the car is running. Check my alternator video for instructions. It's an easy test. Let me know what turns up.

Hello, I have a 1995 Maxima SE manual. I just completed this job. Took me 7 days to do it. I had a few problems with this installation. I had all of the tools and short time because I work. I am not a Mech. So the problems I encountered. 1 was the small space you have to work with. 2 while installing the pump, make sure your tensioner bolt Seats in the bracket that holds the tensioner bolt properly. The space at the end of the tensioner bolt has a space near the head that supposed to slide into the slot of the holder on the positioning bracket. 3 the main fastener bolt that holds the pump in place needs to be tightened last. The pump will need to be able to swing a bit because when you’re lifting the pump attempting to place your tensioner locking nut, the pump will need to swing so you can add your tensioner locking nut 🔩. My problem was that I didn’t fully understand how the tensioner system for this car operated. I understand fully now. It’s simple but you must be aware of that tensioner bolt and bracket. 4, when adding the power steering high pressure line, you must twist the line from the top of the car and make sure that it gives you the angle needed so you can thread the 24mm bolt into the pump properly. Just a few notes from a novice trying to save a few bucks. This was a very difficult job. But it’s easy if you pay attention to what I added. This tensioner system will add hours or days to this job if you’re not sure how this tensioner system is set up. And yes I did see the diagram photos in the field manual. It shows the bolt but I didn’t see any details on positioning the bolt into the bracket. I’m closing , make sure you don’t tighten your tensioner locking bolt until you add your ps pulley and belt. I was so happy to see my tensioner functioning that I almost wrapped up everything and didn’t tighten the locking bolt after getting my belt tightened. Not too bad of a job but this video makes this job look simple. It’s not. Make sure you have another vehicle to drive if you attempt doing this job . Thank you for you video man. I referenced it many times during this job. Respect

Hello, I have a 1999 Maxima. Is there also a locking nut on the back side of the front locking nut to loosen the power steering tensioner? I can not get the power steering tensioner to loosen to replace the belt. Thanks

Remember the tensioner bolt is reverse threads. You have to turn the bolt clockwise to loosen the belt. If this isn't working, you can also remove the bracket holding the tensioner belt.

Nice video. Great attention to detail. I've got a 2012 infiniti g37 that I'm planning on replacing the power steering pump as well. My question is- are the variations between this car and my car so great that i can't use this video to change my own power steering pump? I've done some work on VW's but this is my first time doing something on my g37 that doesnt involve something as simple as changing a set of brakes or oil change. Any advice would be appreciated. Thanks.

Serge Corporan Thanks, Serge. I think this video can help up to a certain point. The motor on your vehicle is quite different from the vehicle in this video. ('97 Maxima) For one, you have one drive belt as opposed to two. I would definitely remove the radiator cooling fans and the air cleaner assembly on your vehicle. You'll need the extra room to remove the power steering pump. But if you have some experience working on cars I think you'll be fine.
