My dad lived about an hour's drive south of Gordon's hometown for most of his adult life. When Gordon used to curl his hair in the '70s they looked so much alike that strangers would occasionally approach my dad asking for an autograph. The resemblance was so uncanny that I can't help but think of my dad in his early 50s whenever I see the Sundown album cover.

Carson, your talents are immense, and while we all love that you make a song your own, in your own voice - one of those many enjoyable talents is your ability to sing in the voice of the original artist as well. Dylan Cash, Lightfoot... incredible!

YES! I'm quite literally in tears. One of my favorite songs, from one of my favorite artists (and a living legend), brilliantly covered by another of my favorite artists. What a beautiful surprise. I remember when Gordon did a European tour a few of years ago, after decades of not touring here. I live in Italy, and the only dates were supposed to take place in UK. I bought a ticket for the Manchester show as soon as I heard the news, booked a flight for the same day of the show, and a hostel for the night. I came back the very next day. It was one of the craziest things I've ever done for a concert, but I'm so, so glad that I had the opportunity to go. It's a little anecdote, but hopefully it shows how much Gordon's music means to me, and I'm so grateful you covered one of his best songs (and probably the second song of his that I've heard, the first one being Don Quixote!).

Like many folks I love the Peter Paul and Mary version with the minor chords added in. It's a very different song played that way. But not as many people cover it the way that Gordon wrote and played it which is still a beautiful song. You do a great job covering it and this version works so well with a 12-string guitar. The Peter, Paul & Mary live version of this song is hauntingly beautiful. Lightfoot's beautiful lyrics and tune matched with P, P&Ms rich harmonies and in particular Noel Stookey's deep, comfortable bass. It doesn't get much better than that, never fail to be very pleasantly surprised by Carson's song choices.

Great cover of one of my favourite songs. My wife is a classically trained singer and wonders if you have had some classical training? She says that you sound great partly because you don't sound your diphthongs but hold the first note of the vowels, which really shows up well in this song. I love your impressions too. Good stuff!
@t5o7m3 жыл бұрын
John Le Rossignol | thanks for using a word unfamiliar to me in your comment ... had to research, --now I know about gliding vowels and monothongs ... I always like to learn something new everyday :)
@romrom9203 жыл бұрын
I have no idea if he's had any classical training, but to my ears he sings like a choir kid. Holding the first note of vowels is something even middle school choirs will train pretty hard on since it makes such a big difference, so a lot of people who were in choirs master that. He also does the choir kid lean XD

Sure, do not resist, this is a pleasure for listeners ! One remark : I sang that song for 50 years, with a F#m instead of A (in your tune) on "rain". PP&M did that way and many covers do as well, and this single different note dramatically changes the whole mood. Much softer, maybe less respectful of pure-folk original by G Lightfoot. No jugement though, and I do not mean you should change !
