In 1969 I went to the dealership with my brother to pick up his 69 ,427,390, black on black coupe . Price $5200 otd. I bought a 71 few yrs after that. That era was great for cars.

Nice 69. I had a 69 roadster that I ordered and bought new. It was Fathom Green, as is the coupe in the video, with a white convertible top and black leather interior. I was going to order the L88 or the L71, but could not get air conditioning with either, so I ordered the L36 390 HP 427 with a 4 speed Muncie M20 and 3.08 gears. It accelerated well, but the top speed was really high (clocked at 165 mph on a race track years ago), and was a great car on the highway. Side pipes were optional, I did not order them, didn't like the design of them in 69, subsequently installed sidemount headers, as well as a number of engine mods, making it even faster. The gill trim was optional, didnt ordrr that, either, thought it broke up the lines of the car. The factory did offer a built in alarm system, which I ordered. It was activated by a key switch at the center of the back end of the car. The headlights and the cowl panel over the wiper blades are activated by vacuum motors. After modifying mine, I effectively had an L88 with factory air that was generally happy on the street (although it wasn't very toletant of low speed traffic for ectended periods, it needed speed to get adequate cooling). 69 was the last year of the 427, and the last year of the Corvette as a racing sport car that could be street driven, in 1970 they began to morph into boulevard cruisers that could be modified to racers. BTW, in my experience racing A Production, I feel that the 427 worked much better than the longer stroke 454 with the Corvette chassis and suspension on a road course, with a power and torque curve better suited to steering with power, the fastest technique to getting around a track in one. Oh yes, I really needed the air vonditioning in the Phoenix heat, as the interior of the Corvette was pretty warm even in cold climates with a big block, and sweltering in tbd desert. I had that car until it was stolen in 1996, never recovered. I still miss it. It was my favorite of the Corvettes I have owned.

I don't know about 1,000 miles per year... I don't even drive my daily's that much. It should be driven, but 10 - 20 miles per month (~250/year) is plenty, as long as there's some highway miles in there to get everything fully warmed up each time and put some fresh gas in the tank at least once a year.
@imapisces5156Ай бұрын
I know there are different opinions on this subject and I respect yours, but I would never drive this car more than a few miles per month. This car is an original collectible and they are only that like that once. Very few of the parts on this car can be replaced with genuine GM parts as only a scant few are available today. Replacing parts with reproduction parts will slowly degrade the car. Most cars like this are trailered to events to minimize wear and tear. Just my opinion.

Nice ride. Need to drive it more. I wrecked (but not totalled) a 69 435 hp/427 w/4 speed (3 carbs) and had the factory side pipes. It had the old bias ply tires that didn't grip like radials. It was a marina blue one. It took a telephone pole and 6 fence posts out but I still drove it home. The repairs at the time were $1600.00 and the car was worth $3800.00 this was in 1971.

Don't always need them but when you do they are there. And when they pop open you feel it. The car does set nice, beautiful infact. That car is in good hands with your family, best of luck.

Right mirror was a dealer option starting in 1973 and remained until 1979. The first year for factory dual mirrors were the bullet style sport mirrors first available in 1977. The luggage rack was also a dealer option, not factory. The removable rear window slides into that tray, the t-tops go in protective bags and just ride in the rear area. The fiber optics light when the lights are on, if you don't see it lit up on the indicator then the exterior light is not working. The first 1969 Corvette VIN was 700001 and the last 738762 so 38,762 Vettes built in 69 which was the most up to that time.

Nice car man! I have a 1970, basically the same car with a few little changes. It came with a 350/350 horse engine I was not impressed with. Frame off restoration in progress. Frame was pretty good for a car back east, West Virginia. The front of the car has never been hit, it is all original. Looks like the driver side rear fender may have been in a minor accident. Rear flares are on it. Hell of a car. Going big block, more torque.

@louislazarus9253 Жыл бұрын
Stupidity in action, folks. Here's a guy who bought a great Corvette, a car meant to be driven and enjoyed, and he hardly drives it. Why? He's not getting any younger. Is he going to worship this car? Of course, it's his decision but since all we have is "time", the most precious commodity of all, who gives a rip if the car is original? It's a car. Drive it and enjoy the hell out of it. In 1970 I bought my L-71 1969 427/435 and have driven and enjoyed it for 53 years. It's my car so I've changed a few things to suit my own taste. These changes have made the car even more pleasurable to drive for me. I added Borgeson Power Steering which is the single smartest change ever. My car still drives and runs great. The engine has never been out of the car. People who buy these cars and don't enjoy them think they will make a huge profit some time in the future. BFD!! In the meantime, the car sits around and we all know NOT DRIVING A CAR isn't a good thing. I would encourage this guy to look at the big picture. Did he buy this exceptional car just to look at it and make some money later on or did he buy it to enjoy it? At some point he will be too old to even get in and out of the car. What then? Will he look back and think "Wow, I'm so glad I didn't enjoy driving my beautiful 1969 Corvette" or will he be saying "What a fool I am for not driving and enjoying this car as much as possible". He'll remember he owned it, sold it for a profit and made some money. If that's the reason to buy a car like this, it's pretty silly. Here's a video of the car I've owned, driven and maintained for 53 years. It's been a joy and is still the most fun of any car I've owned...and that's a lot of cars!! kzbin.info/www/bejne/e4K9ga2PqLiYmZY&lc=Ugy4tRA7-upuFkyp_wZ4AaABAg
