Details make te brilliant shine, the diamond wanted and precious.... Delicate. The flute a golden sound. And the camera... my loup. All is perfect.

Pahud has a commitment to contemporary music for that i respect him enormously. I was surprised to see mr. b who recorded 20th century music from early in his career but i did not know he was in debt to carter.I guess he keeps up.the most difficult music one can imagine on the page.

wow, he really brings out the lyricism. Not easy music to grasp, but he is really doing a lot to make it expressive.

Fascinant comme piece, on se croirait dans une autre dimension. Toujours aussi parfait techniquement ce Pahud! :)

Mr Carter is America's most respected and accomplished living composer. I find it exceptionally hard to accept that perhaps 1 out of 100,000 (or less) Americans have even heard of him, even if they don't like his music. Our culture here in America is dead as a doornail.

Moraine LAKE I've never heard of him and I'm a music Major at University in Texas LOL i can name tons of flute composers sonatas since I love flute so much 😂 I'm not really enjoying this piece so I'm probably not going to come back to this video

87 thousand views worldwide for this, the most viewed piece of his on KZbin. Any missed genius here is not an American thing, but a worldwide thing. Now, if you were to argue that we Americans don't appreciate Jerry Lewis or David Hasselhoff...

The story of Carter's music, to make it short, is the dialectic between distanciation (see quartet nr 1) and synergy. Here, we are at the end of the loop.

Elliot Carter has written some of his best music the past two years, and he his 100 years old, and still kicking. I wonder if there is a more interesting human being alive today.

A wonderful piece, and very different from some of Carter's other music, esp. in the long, lyrical line given the soloist. Can't wait to hear the whole thing.

I would love to listen to the entire piece but there seems to be no way to do this. Digital Concert Hall crashes when I attempt to register. Anyway it would be great if the Berlin Philharmonic would post full concerts to KZbin as some orchestras and ensembles do.

You are quite right in a way. When I was younger for instance, I thought Mozart was the only acceptable Music. Then I discovered Rachmaninov, Shostakovic... you name them. I guess I just have to spend more time with this music in order to understand it. ^^

Wonderful piece! From what I can tell it's in a fairly classic concerto form. Of course, it's more challenging to the listener than Mozart, or even barber, but new art darn well should always be a challenge. No?

Barenboim is the best. Viva Daniel, carajo! Tienes que quitar la cabeza de la partitura, y poner la partitura en la cabeza. FUE ESTUPENDA TODO.

@sieracki001 I have--he's fabulous, an American original. And yes, our culture is dead as a doornaill---used to be innovative (rock and rock, Bernstein, Martha Graham)---but all reality shows now.

He sounds good to me in terms of technique, but I simply cannot understand this modern music... I can't find the logic.... nevertheless, the beginning sounds quite nice, but when it comes to the end, it simply becomes too modern for me. Baremboim is such a great conducter, he conducts so effortlessly, it looks so easy when he conducts. Berlin can be proud of such a great man!
