You’ve confirmed what Scott, Dan and others say about replacement panels fitting where they touch! Your welding rod solution looked terrific. You talk about hiding that end of the repair behind the bumper… well, if I made a repair half as good as that I would cut the bumper away so that people could admire my work.
@CarterAutoRestyling2 жыл бұрын
Thank you! I'll keep the bumper modification in mind for the next truck haha.
@Road_Rash Жыл бұрын
They do admire it by completely not noticing the repair...best compliment anyone can get on bodywork is, "Bodywork? I don't see any bodywork"... kinda the whole point is that they never know the panel was ever repaired...

That's actually pretty impressive... I'm currently doing battle with an ill fitting floor pan patch, but I'm gonna prevail tomorrow... almost got it there today... I'll have to do this too though... mine is even worse than that... good repair!🖖🏿😎👍🏿

One thing ive done is make a tape template on the original fender, then transferred it to the cup reproduction. Works like a charm. Ive also found splitting the cup reproduction (removing the back section) is usually better because the back side doesn't rust out as often.

I wonder if, since these vehicles were originally made in U.S. measurements, and the aftermarket panels being made in Taiwan, etc., they are made in metric measurements instead, and someone does a poor job converting the measurements, thus causing the fitment issues?..or maybe I'm overthinking this, and it's just poor/sloppy workmanship....

I love wading through the advertisements to see your episode. In my case it's very funny because I'm watching you work on your projects while describing what you're doing in English when suddenly you're interrupted by a 30 second French speaking ad for some non stick cooking pan followed by a 3 minute walk through retirement plan that's offered by some banking institution.

Nice job as always Kyle. It's definitely hard to find good replacement panels, but you showed how to make it work. I have a question concerning my '36 pickup, have you ever removed the back window? If you have what is the trick to getting it out. I've removed all the screws, but there is a frame of sorts that hold that window in place and I don't know how to work around it.
@CarterAutoRestyling3 жыл бұрын
Thanks Ken! Yes I have removed the back glass on a 36 and it was a battle. In theory once the screws are out you should be able to push the glass out from the inside. There is a rubber seal that fits around the glass and sandwiches between the outer metal frame and the window opening of the cab. On mine the rubber seal had melted and glued itself to the cab and formed a bond that was stronger than modern windshield urethane. I would try using a heat gun around the window and get it good and hot to try and soften up the rubber and hopefully it will break loose. Mine was so badly stuck I ended up cutting it out from the inside with an olfa knife, it took me two hours and it was not fun cutting through that 85 year old rubber.

Hello Kyle , A question , Is your replacemenmt panel from RPM #89733R ? I was going to order but not sure if their panel has the inner structure Thanks for the videos Keep 'em coming !
@CarterAutoRestyling2 жыл бұрын
I buy all my parts from Scott's Super Trucks. As far as I know all these aftermarket panels come with the inner structure and are stamped in the same place, but the guys at RPM should be able to confirm that if you choose to order from them

Ya gots to wonder where these aftermarket suppliers get their measurements from. It's often like they are working with a tape measure with the end broke off.

Most likely haha! That being said, a poorly fitting aftermarket part goes a lot further towards saving a rusty car than a flat piece of steel and a hammer.

Gee, Kyle... "Mom Dad" and anyone who liked that comment think you aren't a real body man. I guess all the bodymen (and women) who use repop panels aren't real. Some people's kids should show us their fantastic work or learn to put down the keyboard. As for making panels being beyond your skill set?? That was one of the best comments you have made lately, considering the complex panels you have made in other videos. ;)

Could you do a video on your weld seam finishing..... especially how this one was - no rear access and mig'd
@CarterAutoRestyling2 жыл бұрын
I discussed some of the techniques I use for finishing a mig weld in my video on mig welding a cracked fender. I actually still had access to the back of the seam on this repair. I'm sure there will be more discussions on finishing welds in future videos. There are lots of different scenarios that don't apply to every situation.
