Another amazing episode it just keeps getting better and better. I watched episode 5 on AMC+ right when it dropped at like 3 AM EST I'm obsessed/hooked LOL. And I found it to be completely spellbinding this trip back to 1973 finally seeing that original interview was enthralling. I say it all the time this is one of the best shows on TV, and it's sadly so underrated I hope that changes. And hello Emmy's recognition, and awards long overdue now please!!! I swear if this show get's snubbed again next award season it will be so terrible. I hope at the very least that it get's nominated in all the categories acting, writing, directing, production design, music, cinematography. Thanks for the wonderful review, and covering this show. Oh and to answer the question 100% yes I would become a vampire in a undead heartbeat😅 Vampires have always been one of my favorite mythology creatures. Also if you live long enough like Armand has(the older you get the stronger you become), or get that super good blood from a very powerful vampire you can become resistant to sunlight. So yeah eventually you could walk in the Sun again eventually maybe LOL.

LOL with the right technology? I just hope that when it comes to awards season, the show does not get forgotten just because it's locked into "genre." In general vampire-related content is often really ignored and it's frustrating. How hard is it for Emmy to get into Louis' mind? It has to be a real challenge! -Matt

Armand related to Daniel in episode 3 that while the rest of cult members of his vampire coven fled to mingle with humanity as Lestat did, he contemplated casting himself into the fire 🔥, but strict adherence to the vampiric rituals prevented this from happening.

Hi Matt & Jess I agree this was a great episode on interview with the vampire. We got to learn why Daniel is still around? And Lois and Armand interest in Daniel. Funny how they both wanted to kill Daniel and they both stopped each other from doing so. I feel we got to know Daniel’s character a bit more in this episode. I felt sorry for Lois when he chose to walk outside in the sunlight to kill himself but glad saved him. I feel Lois deep down is lonely and misses Le stat and doesn’t have the same love for Armand as he did for Le stat. I’m looking forward to the next episodes and how it turns out in the end. Have a good day.

The creators have said they have taken characteristics and major plot lines from the books that work well for tv so they aren’t pulling anything out of their ass, even if certain things happening here aren’t book canon it matches with the way the characters are in the books. For example, Daniel is both a sadist and a masochist in the books. The whole paper bag over a girl’s head isn’t book accurate but the fact that book Daniel is sadistic and masochistic makes that decision from the writers correct. So it irks me when book purists come into the show expecting everything to be adapted word for word from the books, when that’s not how tv works. Rolin has said that he will adapt the plot points that make good tv, if it doesn’t translate well on tv. he will not include it.

I completely agree with you, and I read the entire series. This show is meant to be an adaptation, and it seems like some people don’t understand what that actually means. The core essence of who these characters are is still based in the source material. The overall arc of these characters will still be the same, the show’s just taking a different route to get there. Take for instance the friction between Santiago and Louis was built up nicely to set up that table scene confrontation. It really showcases Santiago’s mimic gift, and Louis still got to call Santiago a buffoon. It didn’t happen exactly that way in the book, but there was mimicking and the verbal insult of buffoon. This whole show is just chef’s kiss!

I would NOT be turned. Although it seems wicked fun being a vampire with all the powers. First lol of the episode, ‘breaking into the library, hypnotise security, as one does, to lay down & look at the ceiling.’ Daniel: Hot. LMAO Loved Daniel’s example of syntax….Louis is circling something he doesn’t want to say. In 1973-Daniel really seemed like he was hot for Louis & expected to have sex with him. I defintely don’t like the cutting away scenes. Did the two of them lose time or did someone make them forget what happened next? Daniel seriously thought they had sex so Louis asked him if he wanted to now lol I wish he answered him! He was offering something off the menu. I have to praise Luke Brandon Field as young Daniel. He looks so much like older Daniel! I saw an interview that Eric Bogosian didn’t know that Luke as watching him work while he was preparing to be the younger Daniel. His mannerisms, the way he speaks, everything. And they’re not even related, amazing! “Are you the Zodiac killer?!” Hahaha cuz he shows him his fangs? What a scene when he asks for ‘the gift’. Daniel is all hyped up on cocaine, pills & whatever else. “Give it to me” Oh nooooooo that did it. I would think that Louis would be ‘old’ enough to have more control over himself. The berating between Louis & Armand was awful. They were so cruel to each other. Boring, dull, beige, so hurtful. I think Louis has always been mentally crippled & never should have been turned. Yes, he drank from a drugged up Daniel so it all was in his system, talking to himself then going suicidal. God, that looked painful!!! His skin literally falling off his body. The make-up in this series Is epic! The writing, the acting, the editing, everything! What is AMC doing, not promoting this Show? These actors need to be recognized! Armand is such a jealous person. All he wanted was to be loved & have security in his life becuz of his abusive backstory. So, of course, he grew up super needy. What did Armand mean by, asking Daniel, “I’ve been calling for you for some time?” What??? For what? Why?? So it definitely seems like Armand manipulated both of Louis & Daniel’s memories. Louis looked so pissed when Armand comes back, after his ‘lunch’. My new favorite episode!

Armand isn’t desperate to be interesting, he’s using this as a way to maintain more control over Louis. I think Armand really shows his cruelty in this episode. I don’t believe Armand knows how to love, it’s all about possession and control. I hate that Lestat still continues to be painted as the villain, especially when you give Armand so much more understanding. I feel like Louis and Armand have been in this long-time relationship that has gotten stale, and Louis is looking for someone outside as a therapist type. Just think even in the Anne Rice Universe, Pandora and Armand's relationship got stale and they split up after a period of time. Something I am also wondering, if Armand can manipulate Louis and Daniel's minds, whose to say that Santino, the leader of the Rome Coven before Armand was sent to Paris Coven (from the books, his maker Marius's enemy) didn't do the same to his mind (Armand's) because in the book Blood and Gold, it is a different time period. Ancient Rome and Marius professes that he loved Amadeo/Armand, but he was burnt so bad that by the time he was healed, he assumed Santino messed up his mind so bad, and tortured him as well. So Marius didn't back to try and find him. When Armand is trying to tell Daniel about his story, he gives his first memory and then he states there is a black hole. And was that for Daniel or Armand? I really hope they continue through Lestat's story and then Queen of the Damned.

I pretty much only live at night time anyway, I'm not a huge food person, as in I only eat to survive, so I wouldn't really miss that. So, the only big change would be the awesome powers. @@MattandJessTV I agree. That's why I wouldnt do it if I had to hurt others. I don't care if they're the most evil people that exist, I still couldn't bring myself to hurt them. I'm a care taker, so helping people is just in my nature. Hurting someone would go against everything I believe in. If I could live off animal and human blood bags, though, I dont see any moral issues with that. I imagine animal blood would probably be pretty easy to get from cattle farms. Taking human blood bags from hospitals would definitely be off limits for obvious reasons, but if I could pay people to donate their blood specifically to me, I don't really see anything wrong with that. I just refuse to kill any living creature. I'm a meat eater, so I know that's hypocritical of me, but I couldn't involve myself in the process of killing those animals. If the only way to get meat was for me to personally kill that animal, I would have no choice but to become a vegetarian, lol. Killing is really the only down side I see to being a Vampire, so if I could find a way around that, I would definitely become one.

@@MattandJessTVIt’s not. Spoiler below… Armand does try to sew Claudia’s child head on a woman’s body Frankenstein style so she could be happy and leave Louis so Louis could be his. Overall, his character is NOTHING like the book. So much, it’s bothersome. At least to me. They made Armand boring as a soft beige pillow in this show. :/ I really want him to try the Frankenstein thing with Claudia in the TV show as morbid as it is. Armand makes Daniel into a vampire when he was younger than he is in the series and Daniel isn’t a family guy at all. Armand was a spiritual painter, haven’t seen that. That spirituality was a big deal with the character. It isn’t in the TV show at all, unless you count praying…but was that an act? His parents loved him. It’s just sooooo different. @@MattandJessTVI mean in the book Daniel does ALSO have some sadistic tendencies and so the TV show talking about the paper bag story actually kind of tracks with his character in the book at times as well... Is it disgusting and sadistic? Absolutely. It's a really gross story....but it IS kinda tracking with who the character is the in book. Daniel is both a masochist and a sadist, canonly. It's part of the reason why he's the perfect balance for Armand who also swings back and forth between the two. Those aspects of the both of them allow them to dance with each other... It isn't always a smooth dance ... And of course it's a very toxic dance...but he is a dance partner worthy of Armand, IMO. Old man or young. So at least it's a trait/aspect that is pulling from the source material... It's not just something that the show writers are pulling out of their butt... I mean they did pull the specifics of putting a paper bag over a woman's head to have sex with her and then NOT caring, whatsoever, that she clearly got upset about his cruelty and dehumanization/objectification of her out their butts... That specific situation isn't in the books... But, in essence, it's accurate. 🤷‍♀️

@@shan0997 it's a really really unhealthy depiction of BDSM dynamics of course and so it's understandable that someone might get upset when reading about it or seeing it talked on a TV show. That's valid. From what little I've seen of Anne Rice and her of depictions of BDSM in her books ...it's never super healthy or safe or fully consensual... Like these types of dynamics absolutely CAN be... Like if this was happening in reality if the submissive clearly got upset like that... Communication would usually happen... It's a pretty clear example of under negotiated kink that didn't end super well for the submissive... From what little they told us in the show, she didn't have a good time, unfortunately and he didn't give a fuck... And dominants who are sadistic can absolutely still give a fuck...so that was super shitty of Daniel, for sure!..But I don't think Anne was ever really interested in depicting healthy relationships of any kind... In her erotica works or regular vampire stuff... It's kind of what the dark romance genre is for, I suppose. I rambled a bit there, sorry. Thank you for agreeing with my take! I don't get to talk about Daniel/Armand super often... But they are a fascinating(lol) ship to me and the show aging Daniel up really only kind of made me even MORE interested in the dynamic that the two have... They have a really interesting push and pull that I think if the show is brave enough(which they have been so far! I was VERY cautiously optimistic about how they would portray Devil's Minion but after episode 5 I think we're in good hands)... It's going to be really interesting. Horrible and toxic and unhealthy...but interesting.

How can I make this episode not boring? It’s so boring. It’s like a soft beige pillow. :) I realize now how much my interest is in Claudia’s story and Lestat showing up as opposed to Armand whining why Louie thinks he is boring. Then Louie being all dramatic and trying to burn himself in the sun…but no reason really is given other than he was high off of Daniel’s blood. I don’t like this subplot. I don’t really care if Armand was in San Francisco or not or how he saved Daniel or messed with their minds. Which is a bummer for me, because I thought last week’s episode was very, very solid. This is more a ok written dramatic play about jealousy which is fine…but the characters could really be anyone. I did laugh when Daniel has his feet in those rocks, but overall, I just don’t really care about the Armand plot. I would like to watch more Santiago and the Claudia/Madeline plot. Sorry, Matt. :/

Hahaha it's all good, I can take it! I do think that this ep would be polarizing because it was a lot of talk ... but what if it sets off some explosive stuff later? I do think that this could at least be a focal point for a lot of stuff coming up. -Matt

Yeah, I agree with you. It shows a different side of Armand and how he's messing with Louis's mind to keep him. But why did he bring in Daniel? It's like we're getting a backstory on Armand, and he's not such a nice guy after all. I wonder what he's planning to do with Daniel.

I mean Louis is depressed, even in the books. That's always been EXTREMELY obvious... And so of course during a fight when he is intoxicated off of drugged blood...he might attempt. It's not something out of character for him, in my opinion, after having Armand jab DIRECTLY into his sources of guilt/grief... Just like Louis in turn jabbed at Armands trauma during that fight. There's even a lot of book stuff that would point towards him absolutely pulling that shit at some point.. and it's especially been foreshadowed in the show, itself. Way back in the first episode of season 2. Where he says he won't taste the fire ...as long as Claudia is with him... Foreshadowing that once she's died he's going to be suicidally depressed. It's just a A+B= C situation to me... Sucks if you can't see that due to a book/movie purist POV.

@@AnxietyRat We have no evidence that the show will kill Claudia. Armand didn’t make Daniel into a vampire. I am not a book or movie purist. I just want “the spirit of Anne Rice” we were promised. I feel the showrunners are doing way too much of their own thing to the point it’s about 10% of the books. A little crumb here and there, enough to stay. Sorta like being in a relationship like Lestat, non? :)

I liked Fly. I was bored by this. These vampires deserve better writing. Even Daniel deserves better writing.
