@@ThomasDdm If you go with a good tuner you don't need to. You can get great economy staying within 1k - 2.5k revs and staying out of big boost and get great economy from a tuned car. Infact it lets you stay in a higher gear for longer. These chips are fooling you to think they do somethign better when setting it to economy mode.

I've got an R56 with the "stage 1" john cooper works tuning pack on it (and a suspected additional remap from before I got it 5 years ago?) and it's an amazingly fun car and fast enough to surprise a lot of things..... But..... A warning to anyone that wins this, mines taken about £1.5k a year in unexpected costs to keep it on the road Clutch (to be fair, probably due to previous owner) Cam chain Oil lines for turbo Thermostat housing High pressure fuel pump Oil filter attachment housing Cam chain (2) (30k miles and 2 years after #1) Coil packs New valve cover (PCV valve failed) Multiple suspension parts (drop links on front anti-roll bars are really keen to start knocking) Think it needs a water pump at the moment Have to check and top up oil every week (1/2 litre every 1000m is considered "normal") And, I know some bits I've forgotten! Love it when it's running well but constant work to keep it that way! (Oh and for a lot of those jobs, most the front end of the car has to be removed, so figure in Aircon re-gas and coolant replace in the cost!)

@@MrManBuzz Yep... It is (as is the one in this video) The suspension bits wouldn't be a huge problem with mine in isolation as they're fairly cheap, but.... The engine stuff has crippled me , I'll have paid for it in a few months and then it goes! (Honda next!) I've heard the later (N16) ones are better but I'd also advise everyone to stay clear of the N14 early ones! I had an E46 330ci before and that was pretty much bulletproof for 60k miles (other than water pumps, which was £30 every 2 years) so I foolishly got a BMW Mini! Ah well, we all live and learn :)

Some perspective: the single lap record for Curborough in the n/a standard car up to 2 litre class is 36.99 sec (exactly the same as the best for this mini). That was for a Honda S2000 and was 10 years ago, but it was equalled this year in a mk3 Renaultsport Clio. Remember, that’s a modified mini against standard cars. The power is about the same but it makes you realise the Clio and S2000 really have a sorted chassis from the factory! Having said that, I think the mini was facing tougher track conditions.

Also from looking at a few shots, it seems you're running pretty standard camber at the front (e.g. its evident theres more rear camber than front). I'd suggest getting some adjustable top mounts on this and dialing in some front negative to really improve the front end on track. It'll kill the understeery natural balance of the car.

If it's a cooper, you've got a few options but it really isn't worth it. For 600 quid you could get a high lift cam/decent budget exhaust and an air intake. It'd make the car a bit more eager. But again, if you want a Gen 1 mini just get an R53. You can pick them up for peanuts. They are thirsty bastards for what they are though so if fuel costs are a concern I'd think twice.

Well, like always nice job on the video - it's interesting it's funny, but i stand my ground on the car. It's a mini! It's a lady shopping car and not a track day one. You can see Alex veering off onto the grass with understeer despite the better suspension and MUCH better tyres. Coilovers and good tyres are a nobrainer for any track enthusiast, really are affordable and brought probably the biggest time advantage from the pack. But with FWD and just 200HP it's not a track car especially if you wanna drive it on a bit more power hungry circuit with more than one straight. So please, do real trackday car with for example a Toyota MR2 W2 with the 2.0i Turbo engine. This will be a much better track car and a better starting point and for Alex a lot more fun. I really wish to see Ethan's face in a 300hp+ MR2.
