Didn't even mention the most important part. STAY ON THE THROTTLE AND KEEP IT LOADED IN PARKING LOTS. Don't let the axles rack back and forth by being in neutral while turning, be in gear and lightly on throttle so the tires slip instead of twisting your shit to pieces.

Funny story, a kid at my work bought his first car for 7,000$, it was 350z with a welded diff. I told him it's not a good idea since he just got his license and the rear end would tend to kick out, but he knew better than me. Needless to say, 6 days later he drove his old Subaru to work, I was surprised so I asked why. The rear end of his 350z kicked out on him and he ran it into a curb. The passenger side of his car was toast and wheel were bent under the car terribly lmao. The insurance totaled it and didn't give him anything for the car. DONT WELD YOUR DIFF NEW DRIVERS.

@DJzSith8 жыл бұрын
Also some real tips: Dont use wide sticky tires on the rear, Engine braking must be approached with caution, You need to adjust the geometry and setup of the car to compensate for the lack of turn in, Have half shafts ready for when they brake. *DD a welded diff for 2 years, now on my second car with a weldy*
@FOXeye957 жыл бұрын
So, if I weld the diff on my 318i I'm going to have a shit ton of costs in the future compared to leaving it open diff?
@DJzSith7 жыл бұрын
Not a shit ton, second hand half shafts cost between 30 and 50$. And if you dont give massive shocks to your rear end (wheel hop), they should last just fine. If you intend to actually drift the car, this *IS* a must. You will fall in love with the control it gives you.
@patrykkowalski67 жыл бұрын
why do half shaft break? i mean is it from drifting (clutch kicks etc) or from the skipping tire which is trying to grip? do they break often when most driving is just normal driving?
@FOXeye957 жыл бұрын
meh I was gonna weld the diff but I'm going to have to trade for a diesel fwd car car is too hungry, drinks more than a 520i wich is weird
@DJzSith7 жыл бұрын
Its mostly tire skipping, like standing almost still and flooring it in second gear. Never broke something when driving normal and did not break anything mid drift as far as I remember. You should let go of the gas when you feel your rear end vibrating, thats wheel hop and that what did in all my half shafts.

Brawndo I've had plenty of daily drivers whith welded diff. It's perfect if you want to learn about car behavior. The good thing is that your car will behave pretty much the same at any speed. Open diffs work ok for high speed but not in low speed, and depending on power it can be very interesting. A welded diff dosent have this problem. It's cheap contra buying a real one which some times only lock like 30 to 50%.

Im 17 from the UK, ive got a 1978 volvo 240 estate. 2.1L 4 cylinder with 89hp (1-port single carb version ;_;) its totally stock but i dont know what road to take it with mods. At the moment im thinking either rally car or drift car. Either way i dont know whether i should weld up the differential?? i've got a shitbox Ford Ka that i can use just to get to college if i need to but still not sure if the benefits of a welded diff outweigh the disadvantages. What do you guys recommend? BTW absolutely love the volvo 240 traktor at the end haha
@mk2escort1388 жыл бұрын
Josh Briggs if your going rally car go limited slip diff it will save you sliding everywhere if your gonna do drifting go locked or welded You could do either but you won't get the desired effects if you switched them Hope that helped
@lucywucyyy8 жыл бұрын
hmm you could sort of do both, drift cars really dont need to be low to drift so you could get some long coil overs and make the suspension nice and soft then weld the diff aswell, it rally cars tend to have quite tight diffs anyway so i think youd be fine. you could go between rally and drift with just a change of tires
@lucywucyyy8 жыл бұрын
god i want a 240so badly, they are so cool im in the uk too and theres this ancient 240 in tavistock i go past every time i go to my nans house, one day im gonna find who owns it and see if i can buy it off them
@joshbriggsDayZBeast8 жыл бұрын
antsolja Thanks for the help mate. It would be a bit tricky to do both but perfectly do-able. I love 240's, insisted to my dad that he got me one as my first car (got the KA for free) and he paid £700 for it, which is very good for such an early example with the 'flat hood' and round headlights + loads of chrome etc. Go on youtube and type in "Swedishrally volvo 240" there are loads of great rally vids! And also type in "volvo 240 2jz by bjorck" the car is exactly the same as mine (but with a 2jz engine lol) if you want to get one on a shoe string budget, £600/700 is what you'll pay for a decent car with an MOT that you can drive away. I've seen some with an MOT sell for half that, or quadruple! id all depends on yeah and condition. Good luck with the hunt!
@joshbriggsDayZBeast8 жыл бұрын
mk2escort138 Yeah i had a feeling a limited slip would be more ideal. How much would a limited slip conversion be do you know by any chance? obviously i would do the work/installation obvs. The problem is i havent got much money to lavish on it. And i need to get some spotlights to fit on the front first hahaha

Last time I was in a carpark with my tyre chirping and my prop shaft clunking like the tinman smashing one out some woman looked at me in disgust for driving a "broken" car, I just laughed in her face 🤣 Also funny when ya get tyres fitted n the dude stalls the car 4 times n tries to tell you your diff is broken ( after you warned him multiple times it welded) 🤣

I daily my 86 Suzuki sidekick lifted 4wheeler with a welded diff, it had a rear locker that broke so I just welded it. hardly noticed on the street but on the dirt it was awesome.

Nigga u stupid af, this is a cheap mod, almost free to start drifting and you already talking about adding power and a LSD?? Its clearly that u dont own a car and if you do its a boring sedan that never gonna see a real car part that is not stock.
@NGC14338 жыл бұрын
This video is about welding open diffs on cheap cars. LSD's and POWAHH!!!111 have nothing to do with welding nor cheap.
@LogiForce868 жыл бұрын
I'm no nigga, nigga. Besides I drive a fine BMW e46 (hatchback) which has a LSD from factory (3.38 ratio in my case). Owned an Alfa Romeo 156 (sedan) before that and a Lancia Delta (hatchback) before that. Also I meant locked diff earlier... my bad. Oh and it's a cheap mod but if you ever decide against it after you did that mod... it'll cost you a new friggin' diff. I'd rather add more power for that money as that'll give me more fun sideways as well as in a straight line. ;)

I had a cusco full locked diff as a daily on a r33 skyline it was so predictable I could drift 3lanes gutter to gutter 3rd gear speedo reading 150km no problems. LSD is for wimps. Lock it then compare it you'll never want to drive another car without a full locker again. Nothing compares to a full locked diff as long as you have some decent power to back it up.. I had 230kw atw,I sold the car on the first test drive.. I had the buyer looking out of the passenger window facing the oncoming cars ahead. He said stop and didn't argue and gave me 15k for the car plus he didn't even bargain on the price I was asking. Lock the CVNT all the way & enjoy life.
