21:50 really got to me, because i can relate. i was in a bad place mentally for a while, didnt care about much of anything, only felt depressed, etc. etc. then i discovered the miata, and ended up buying my own. since then its truly given me something to care about. i have so many plans for this car, and it really pulled me out of a dark place. i will eternally be grateful for this car currently sitting in my driveway. every time i see it, it fills me with an emotion i didnt know i could feel. even now, while it doesnt run and needs an engine rebuild, i still care deeply about it. i know it would make more logical sense to dump it and buy another one, but this car did so much for me and will always hold sentimental value.

As much as I love MX-5s (I currently have two), I don't think I could ever spend £25,000 on one, but that's not an insult as what you've done is clearly a labour of love. This series, seen you working on Phil, all the hard work and joy, the feeling of acomplishment, makes me love my litle lancer even more. I wanted to keep my lancer as close as OEM as possible, but now i want to make a 4WD convertion on it. Thinking on a v6 twin turbo from a 3000GT 4WD, keep all the interiour bits and stuff as AC, Power steering. A street vehicle with good performance. Not a race build, but he will make me happy. Thanks a lot for the inspiration. Thanks for buying Phill. Best for you two. Cheers.

I had a MX5 NA a few years ago. I sold it because I finish my degree in Australia and need to back to my home country. I saw this Phil and he remind me how good MX5 are. So I bought a MX5 ND few months ago. Start modifying him from coliover, strutbar, tyres and a handmade titanium shift knob. I ordered a set of wheel from Japan, and I need to wait for another 3 months for the rims to arrived. Phil reminded me the passion about modify a car and just go for ride and have fun.

New to the channel, Didn't really know about Phil, but maaan what a great path you both have followed and such great stories...21:51 is the beauty of cars right there, how a box with wheels designed to take you from a to b becomes something else, part of your life, it gives you joy, sadness, it scares you, surprises you....it basically becomes a friend right? Im so damn glad that guy found a refugee from his "brain storms", that must have been a very special moment for you as well

This series was the reason I got a NA years ago (Phils german cousin as it was dubbed in a meme on CT) until the rust took it away from me. Today I just bought my ND. Thanks to you I discovered this amazing little car and it never let go off me. Well done Alex. Well done CarThrottle!

Amazing story, and great to see Phil being sorted properly. With the major rust issues you could just as well have crushed the thing really. And that would have been a shame. V6... well, it is what it is! Atleast you got a beast of a MX5 there. And one that should be pretty reliable... as you said, that thing wont be working all that hard to push this little thing forward! :)

Ahh memories, I had 1 of these, years ago now. Snikerty-snack ultra short ratio gear change, the sharky little nose stretching out in front of you, and some nice burbly feedback from the standard exhaust. I only had 1.6l power, but revvy enough with the sweet chassis to fish tail the back end on roundabouts, with ease. Much to the hilarity of friends, and very nearly ending up in a ditch a few times...saved not because of driving skill, but because the MX5 is a mini hero, a car that makes you feel like you're driving an arcade game, from the 1990s. Everything just seemed so beautifully ergonomic and well engineered,, which is what I like about Japanese machinery.

Always fancied a convertible since I saw a neighbours red MX-5 Mk2 in 1990. 10 months ago I posted this; 'I was looking for reasonable soft top and I have always heard loads about their good handling and I like their shape. However I sold my Harley Davidson and ended up buying a Porsche 3.2 S Boxster with straight through pipes, mufflers and sports cats for 5K. These videos have also cheered me up also this year :) ' 10 months on; I got fed up quickly with the Porsche (particularly fitting my rugby thigh legs between the seat and the steering wheel) and sold it 9 months ago, although admit to being eclectic with cars. Got a cheap and cheerful around for now and saving. Next year looking for a convertible. It will be either a Mazda Mk3 with a decent spec or the Mercedes SLK350 with upgraded spec including neck heater, and the Bose sound system, with money around the £6000 mark, tops. Folding hard top because of people having knifed hood attacks in this area! Fuckers!!! And having no garage atm so no storing hard top space or having to fit them solo! Enjoyed watching all about 'Phil' again. Nice one Alex ;) Any thoughts the MX-5 over the SLK anyone??? The Harley Dyna might come first next year but I did said, I'm eclectic ;)

Yup, you made me buy an Mx5 (also Taylor Ray and Gingium) I'm doing suspension rebuild next month but I left it for the end as I spent 5k on other stuff but now the dampers are gone so yeah that's a good opportunity to do the rebuild with coilovers and brembo brakes

It's not a car. It's a love and care you put in to it that makes this moment. That's why I really love my Ford Focus mk3 so much. A.K.A "Freya". What I did is just thrown in a performance air filter. A set of nice and quiet high flow exhaust system. A stock Ford 5spokes 18inches alloy wheels. And a remap.

I bought one of these the same time as you by coincidence. I had so much fun in it and enjoyed watching the series while i enjoyed driving mine. Unfortunately at MOT time we discovered it developed serious rust issues and was pretty much beyond saving, in terms of corrosion. It sat for a year before I decided to scrap it. Never a dull moment in that car, most enjoyment ive ever had
