Yes and they are much better for the environment and pollution. All those new cars that brake down often and full of platic and sensors. One vw combi is the same as 4 cars made after 2002.

We just cant make ultra basic cars anymore, as seen with the mini. Once you have filled its boots with lead in the form of crumple zones, ABS, and various exhaust filters. What your left with is a converted vw transporter.

I grew up in one of these! Not the camper version, just the regular bus. My parents had 2 consecutive ones. Being one of six siblings (so a family of 8), it made a lot of sense. Very practical.

What is the main factor holding you back from making these specials/trips/stories longer or more complex? Is it budget? Time? Crew capacity? Is there something the community could do to help you? Oh mate? I don't know where to start? You have literally tugged at my life strings! The house visit was brilliant. My mum was Danish so used to visit grandparents like you did. My version was google maps recently to see the house I used to visit. VW's.......my life! I've had 13 old beetles, '56 oval, '63 faltdach, etc. 2 split campers, drove 11 hours to scotland from colchester and yes they are cold to sleep in, but totally reliable. I've had countless Golfs Mk1, 2, 4 and 5, Sciroccos, Passat Mk1, 2 and 3, polos, Now we have a New Beetle convertible to keep the VW thing going. Top video chaps! Cheered me up no end!

My dad had a VW campervan and in 1973 (!) our family of 4 went from Pakistan to the west coast of Ireland. On the return leg, we also had 3 family friends join us. So that was 2 families of 7 people. I still remember parts of that trip to this day with fondness

I've been to the VW museum... me and my best mate did a spur of the moment road trip. Basically booked a ferry from Dover and made it up as we went... Amsterdam, Wolfsburg, Dresden, Prague, Berlin and Brussels... Best 5 random days of my life.

My gramp used to absolutely love these busses, he had a fair few of them but then he got really poorly and passed away and so his last one had to get sold (I was only about 6 at the time) and I just love these and used to love sitting in his one. Every time I see one of these busses it makes me wish I was young again and sat in the back of his still. As much as I'd love to get one of these in memory of him I'd never be able to afford to buy one. Best keep doing the lottery in the hope one day I win enough to purchase one of these beautiful busses. RIP Gramp 💕

I remember playing Gran Turismo 5, modding the VW Bus for 15hp, adding maximum weight and doing a lap of the Nurburgring, I think it took over a half hour XD. Good times! I had the transmission set to automatic, so I was a few minutes slower than my friend, who was smart enough to use manual transmission, to keep it at max rpm.

Seeing that London to the Volkswagen museum is only 653 miles really helped put into perspective just how big America is. I drive over 1,000 miles (in a single day) multiple times a year to go between home (chicago) and university (Boston)
