Went to a meet on saturday and the amount of cars with programmed pops and bangs drove me insane. When the pops and bangs are like gunshots but the car is a fiesta st you know its not right. I drive a 93 sti and I wont lie on the overun it burbles and has a few pops but its all natural and I dont mind that, its like an expression of the cars personality. But when its fake I cant stand it.

8 weeks ago i bought (from what i understand) the last running Rover Streetwise S in the country. It makes pops and bangs.....but that's due to either a damaged cylinder, faulty spark plugs or dodgy plug wiring. P.S. recently did an oil change and filter change....discovered my streetwise still had the original oil filter from factory (16 year old car btw)

Pops and bangs really depends, doesn't it. When coming from an 8 year old Golf gti with a tired dsg box, it's just ridicolous. When coming from a C63 amg with factory fitted performance exhaust, I'm smiling like a little kid

I live by a relatively busy give way point and over the last few years I've grown to despise pops & bangs maps. Literally all I can hear out my window during the busier traffic hours of the day is chavs in fiestas. The loud exhausts and people wheel spinning away never really bothered me as a lover of cars but when you add in the gunfire sound of pops and bangs it just becomes noise.

I totally agree with you about pops and bangs. There's a guy in my village with an astra vxr who LOVES to rag his car down the road at 11pm and lift off just outside the row of houses where I live. The car sounds like a wet fart followed by an ak47 and it wakes my 1 year old daughter up, she then won't go back to sleep until gone mid night. Not great when you're up for work at 4:30am

you lads should buy 3 £200 cars and do a demo derby type thing, in an offroad type course, or do banger racing with them around another offroad course and the losers have to sell/scrap their cars and the winner gets to decide what to do with theirs or gets to host the next video or something like that, maybe if Gareth comes on, you could do teams

I agree with that unpopular opinion of fast cars being too fast and whether to buy one in the UK. I just got myself an E class estate and could afford the purchase price and insurance of the E63 S, but chose to go for the E400 (333hp) instead. I even accepted a 100hp dip from my previous car (S500 with 435hp). You so rarely get to use those horses at the top end. Plus, I even live in Germany. You're hitting Vmax less than 1% of your driving miles, it's really not worth all that drop in mpg and extra price for those ponies. If it takes me 5 seconds longer to get from 60mph to 155mph I can live with that.

Fully agree with the trackdays calming your road driving down. It worked for me 100%. Once you push your car to its limits on track you realise how pointless aggressive driving on the public road is. Fully plan on taking my partners son out to some trackdays in my car as soon as he passes his test in the hope that it stops him being a boy racer on the road (like I was). I know trackdays aren't cheap, and not accessible for everyone but if you can, you really should.

Hate pops and bangs and with Gareth with this one. It’s like putting a Type R badge on that 1.6 Civic you picked up from Bristol. Car guys in the know laugh at you for being fake and can see through it. Doesn’t add performance and it’s like finding something to compensate for something else. I guess this gives you an idea how fake pops and bangs offend me too.
