Fribroblasts do not become chondrocytes. Chrondrocytes are derrived from chrondroblasts. Fribroblasts are different things, which go on to form a type of connective tissue called 'Proper'. Like all connective tissue, fibroblasts and chondroblasts are both derived from the mesenchyme (a bunch of cells that come from the mesoderm (one of the 3 germ layers in embryos))
