I wonder if part of the reason JBVO has never be rereleased was because of the real kids giving out their names and having their voices on live television and such. That sort of things seems like it would be a legal nightmare, especially with minors.

I'll never regard the JBVO "DragonBall Z" episode as a mystery, because I also saw it when it aired back then. :) I very vividly remember Johnny's VA telling the little girl over the phone that he can't play the whole episode, but he can fast-forward through it and commentate over it to make it up to her. That memory still sticks with me over 20 years later.

One of my random vivid childhood memories is of e-mailing JBVO to request a cartoon. I was like 6 so I didn't actually write and send it myself, I dictated it to my mom, who did it for me. I requested a Powerpuff Girls episode that I just described as "the one where Bubbles gets mad" and threw a fit when Jonny didn't play my request the next day. Just one of those things I remember 20+ years later for no good reason lol.

I specifically remember Johnny reading the letter, and saying: "Well... There's just one little problem with that. Your DBZ is 30 minutes long, and that's how long my show is (as well as makes mention about it being unfair), but I'll make you a deal." He then offers to play a sped up version of the episode, and asks if that would make the girl happy/suffice (or something to that effect). He then talks over the entire sped up episode as someone with no knowledge of what's going on. Just commenting things like "weird" and "cool". Making light of things. This would have been very late 2000.

It really makes me sad Cartoon Network doesn’t want to be amazing! Cartoon Network in the early 2000s had so much care and love to it. all the shows had a relatable aspect to them or a way to escape from the world. Fridays with Tommy and Tara is a great example to come back home and feel like your apart of something. Miguzi as well! Toonami was at it’s best in the early 2000s for me! 🖤💙🖤

With MTV turning into reality tv instead of music videos, when The History channel turned to making Ancient Aliens, and when Animal planet did their mock-documentaries on 'Mermaids The Body Found" and one on fire breathing dragons (dissecting a 'discovered' body and describing the fire making mechanism), one can not expect cartoon network to make cartoons. You are asking to much of them.

Here in the UK We had what was called Big Bravo Live which was our version of JBVO. However it aired sometime during a week school holiday back in 2000 and it aired all week from 8 am - 5pm. People could call Johnny and request a cartoon which would be played for an hour, it also had the chat and competitions. Following that Toon fm(live from Japan) aired during 1 week school holidays from 9-5 I believe October 2001. Cartoon Network did a Japanese themed week with it to coincide with the Premier of Tenchi in Tokyo, it was mostly just competitions and live phone ins. It then was a hour long block as you say around early 2002 on weekday mornings It lasted about a month.

I think that they could actually make JBVO work now. Think about it. They hire the voice actor to as a live host. And they give him a V-tuber rig for johnny. Imagine a V-tuber rig with large corporate funding and access to professional animators. Add in support team to man the animations and screen, screen requests, and find the episodes from the catalogue of videos. They could also double dip with twitch streams (although they obviously could have chat live on the television version; maybe only the screened comments for interaction). I get that JBVO isn't going to be the one that breaks this ground, but this got me thinking of the concept of a V-Tuber talkshow on television in general. Like a Stephen Colbert style host making this central to their show. It might event appeal to a network, since the "star of the show" is not entirely a real person- the actor could be switch out with minimal issues while maintaining the face and the brand.

I think when Adventure Time and Regular Show became popular CN steered away from action stuff because at the time that's where the money is. In many ways, it's still where the money is. Here's one for you: I have vague memories of watching the early version of Adult Swim on CN and there was a bizarre show where a guy thought he was ugly, so he got some kind of surgery or something and had his upper body replaced with a marble bust, like from "David" or something. I want to say there was a part where he went to a pool. I think he ended up thinking the results of his surgery (?) was worse than his original self, and/or maybe he was scaring people. Does anyone else remember anything like this? This would have been over 25 years ago, possibly around 25. It creeps into my brain fairly often, and I can't help but wonder if I imagined it.

I’m not joking at all about this, I was feeling super nostalgic some time ago (about a year) and was watching old Cartoon Network commercials/cuts videos on KZbin. I saw exclusively the Johnny vs Johnny type block where the Johnny’s where arguing about “who’s the real Johnny” on one of the videos I was watching. It was pretty far into one of those videos and I had no idea it was lost, so I didn’t think anything of it. It is right here on KZbin, I know for a fact. I remembered it vividly from watching it on Cartoon Network, and I remember vividly watching it again on KZbin about a year ago and feeling a lot of nostalgia from it.

Yes and no. While it shares similarities, he’s not exactly solely meant for live broadcasts like some of the earliest vtubers. Most Vtubers are created specifically for a sole entertainer as an alias, even when said character is used to promote a brand. Although the concept of JBVO does predate the overall concept of a vtuber broadcast itself by almost a decade; while most people believe Kizuna Ai was the first Vtuber, that’s not quite true either. The first vtuber software wasn’t released until 2009 (along with the first wave of “virtual” content creators such as Super Sonico).

Viva Las Bravo segment was recorded by me back in 2006 and I uploaded it online somewhere in 2007/2008. The block was real, although Johnny Bravo did not have live interaction with the audience. It was all a stock footage of him talking. The block offered three shows to choose from and vote for on the website, then on the following day the winning show got 2 hours of rerun episodes. It was on the Pan-European version of CN that we had in Bulgaria back before we got our own version of the channel in October 2009.

OK OK LOOK. As someone who used to watch JBVO regularly as a kid, I can confirm the fact about it never airing reruns is wrong. I do remember seeing some episodes air more than once such as the one with the "Rowdyruff Boys" episode of The Powerpuff Girls. I know there's a specific gag I saw in another episode that I saw more than once where Johnny asked the caller who her favorite PPG was, and guessed Mojo Jojo, then the caller laughed saying "Mojo Jojo isn't a Powerpuff Girl", then after that he randomly guessed the Shmoo. She finally told him Bubbles was her favorite, and he said he would air an episode she was in. I forget what PPG episode aired, I think it was "The Powerpuff Girls' Best Rainy Day Adventure Ever" because it's the only other PPG episode I remember airing on the show.

Hearing you talk about Symbionic Titan reminds me of my love for Tower Prep, the live action CN show that ended too soon. I'm not really in the lost media scene, but I was wondering if there is anything lost around this show? I've never met anyone who has watched it, let alone see any discourse behind it

I remember when Cartoon Network was promoting the game Thrillvile: Off the Rails they had people send in a letter to a address and they would get back 3D glasses. For one Friday only on (I believe) ran a programming block known as Fried Dynamite they showed 3D versions on episodes of out of jimmy's head and fosters. I recorded the entire thing but it’s been lost and I’ve been trying to locate it for years.

I remember seeing Oh Canada in the mid 90's and I s2g there was a short within the show that had a bunch of colorful shapes ( like toy blocks of varying shapes with beady eyes but no mouths) at war with one another. I could never find anything on the short but I swear it exists.

I remember a teen titans episode that no one but me one seems to remember, and I can't find it anywhere to watch, it doesn't seem to documented online of even existing, it aired on cn a fair amount of times, the plot was the Hive causing accidents and save people to get attention and make citizens think they were the good guys now, I specifically remember a scene when Mammoth brakes the controls of a subway so the, rest of the Hive aren't able to stop it, so they dipped, and the titans had to stop the subway and save the day, the episode was probably from season 1 or 2 cus it was the main 3 Hive members, in season 3 or 4 there was more there members (characters) added, I would love this episode to be found, teen titans is my favorite cartoon of all time I really want to watch it again

Oh snap! I had a full taping of Toon FM (South Africa received a lot of European content) because that was my first introduction to Dragon Ball Z, it played about 3-4 full episodes of the intro Raditz saga. Next time I go visit my parents I'll scour through all of the old tapes and if I find it I'll digitise it.

You mention youre surprised about chowder's short 3 season run, however the series ended when Chowder's voice actor turned 14, around when his voice probably started changing. I've seen interviews with the cast where they talked about how they knew with a child lead that it's run was limited. The only way they could have continued was by recasting chowder which I don't know would have worked out well.

In 2009, I saw a HiHi Puffy AmiYumi clip that I couldn't find anywhere. It featured Ami and Yumi in a giant bowl of ramen that a giant version of Harmony was about to eat. The bowl jumped away and Harmony chased it while saying 'I am number one!' 3-4 times.

I definitely remember the DBZ JBVO episode. Johnny called it the viewer's favorite episode (despite the request not even mentioning a specific episode) and it was the episode where a cut in half Frieza fires a beam at Goku as Goku aims to leave Namek. Goku then shoots a beam back at Frieza and shouts "YOU FOOL" I know this is just one guy's memory, but I remember this vividly because I was annoyed more people didn't request anime. Would love to rewatch this one day because I remember it being funny.

Nightmare Ned was one of those weird cartoons that was a dream like memory. In particular an episode where Ned went to school naked and cleverly hides behind things and when finally exposed as naked had a yellow smiley face sticker covering him as he ran. He wakes up from his nightmare and passes his dad leaving for work and we find the dad at work, he takes off his coat and finds he actually is naked and it is real life.

I do have a vague childhood memory about the Johnny Bravo vs Johnny Test arguing over who is the real Johnny. If I remember correctly, it was just a very small and quick gag played just before or just after the commercials. Couldn't have been more than one minute. Normally when hearing about these childhood lost media cases none of them bring memories back, but I do have some sort of memory with this one.
