I think a remake, even if it's just the first game, could really fix some of the problem areas of these games and push them to the level of Battle for Bikini Bottom.

I like to think when the console versions started they were planning to have racing segments and they passed this information to the GBA and DS devs to include them in their games, but at some point they changed them into a demolition derby and either forgot to tell the other devs or the other versions were too far into development to change them, wouldn't be the first time something like this happened during this era...
@devonwilliams57382 жыл бұрын
Rayman Raving Rabbids is still a peak example of this.

This genuinely might be what happened. It's too much of a coincidence that both the handheld versions happened to put in race segments instead of the demolition derby.

I haven't played any of the Tak games, but I was hopefully expecting it finally found its groove by this instalment for you, especially since it was reminding me of your opinion on a certain video game trilogy I found out two years ago. Instead it seems to be just on par with its predecessors. A shame, but it is what it is. Great review as usual.

as a kid the drop-in/drop-out co-op was the best part. me and my siblings could play it together, and if some-one was playing it they would always be cool with some-one joining them as the game was better with two people, and that was great. if I was playing by myself some-one walking by would join me, and if some-one else was playing they'd always let me join them, and that was great. and the amount of shenanigans we got up to, the amount of hours we spent messing around on that third sections tower in the hub sabotaging each-others attempts to get up it was just great, doing things like grapple-zappling them around, or otherwise causing trouble, good times.

this was my introduction to the ps2 so it will always hold a special place in my heart. I personally think the first game is wayy worse than the other 2. 2 just had that early 2000s charm and the third game was just funny AND you can play as lok. I feel like ur a bit too harsh on a nickelodeon game from the 2000s. The story doesnt always have to be deep like its fine to have senseless fun (SOMETIMES). This game isnt supposed to be deep. Its the world and the charm that drew me into this franchise and it will always be legendary to me

I gotta say, Juju Challenge was the first of the trilogy I played, so I had no experience with prior levels being reused. I never beat it as a young young kid but specifically because I didn't know how memory cards worked. Playing through the trilogy in reverse order, I think the first game is my least favorite from a functionality standpoint. It feels so much clunkier. Staff of Dreams is my favorite for the Vibes, but play-wise, Challenge is the most fun for me! The developers ran out of time to work on 3, which is why the 'boss' sections were so scuffed, and the game legit had no 'ending'. The DS game had a true final boss, but the home console had THREE DERBIES IN A ROW, BABIE!! You can see in Parchlands in particular (one of my favorite levels, its so weird to me) a section toward the bottom of the level that was just never finished. I'm sure there's a lot of parts of that left in the game. I'd absolutely love to dig through and find out what's left.

Not only does the GBA game use the same engine and mechanics as that system's version of The SpongeBob Movie Game, but it you pay close attention, you'll notice that Tak and Lok's animations when they take damage are the exact same as SpongeBob and Patrick's from that other game, implying palate swap tomfoolery. Oh, and since I noticed that you still haven’t brought it up, both the racing sections of Tak 3 GBA and the main game of NickToons Racing on the Game Boy Color are both inspired by Rare’s RC Pro-Am series.

Well, these Tak reviews were an interesting watch. I’ve never played any of the GBA or DS games (aside from 2 GBA), so I can’t comment much on if I agree with those reviews. As for the console game reviews, I found myself on and off with agreeing and disagreeing with you on all 3 games. In regards to Tak 1, there are some things that I think are just “agree to disagree” things, like with Yorbel collecting. I don’t really see it as tedious, especially because each level doesn’t have too many and they’re never too difficult for me to find. I personally found the previous quest much less enjoyable because the plant fights were all quite simple. Objectively speaking, I don’t really agree that Tak 1 suffers from a lack of communication. I don’t think the example you gave with enemies falls into that trap because they make a different sound when you’ve hit them enough times to kill them. The health issue with the feather is also circumvented by the percentage meter in the HUD. It makes the feather changing color more of an aesthetic choice, rather than a gameplay element. I do agree, though, that some challenges are lacking in substance, such as the entirely of ‘Mummy Tombs.’ Although, side note: I discovered you can actually go much faster in the Chicken Suit. Here’s proof: m.kzbin.infoAXd3QPwt2x0 In regards to Tak 2, I don’t completely agree that the game suffers from being unfocused. There are certainly some things that get forgotten about, such as Flea Jabolba and the animal puzzles, but other things, such as the platforming and combat, remain consistent throughout. I also don’t think the collect-a-thon levels are out-of-place, because the games actually becomes gradually more linear as it goes on. The levels start linear, but add more and more optional paths and even end with open areas to explore. Even the first collect-a-thon level starts out linear and merely opens up into two linear paths that connect back to the center. I don’t think the mini games are examples of being unfocused, seeing as they only pop up occasionally. I also don’t agree that the puzzles are poorly thought out. The first one you pointed out I think is decently built up, because you would naturally think to jump on the bear as before, but would maybe think to bounce multiple times, either for getting extra height, not knowing what else to do, or both. I thought the other one you pointed out was decently explained because there’s no indication after it that you need to bring the sheep with you and Jabolba even has tutorials telling you to feed the gator. I do agree, however, that the catapult sucks lol. I haven’t played Tak 2 GBA in a long time, so idk if I entirely agree with your review of that game. From what I remember though, you were absolutely correct lol. In regards to Tak 3, I can see where you’re coming from, but occasionally disagree. I disagree that there’s no reason to play as one character over the other, seeing as there are plenty of times the two are separated and times where you need Lok to get Tak to reach a higher area. I also don’t agree that the combat is mindless. There are enemies that require decent strategy to beat, such as the chargers, who you have to maneuver around carefully. I do agree with other complaints, though, such as the Proving Grounds being pointless and the game reusing too many assets. I’m surprised you didn’t mention how you can easily redo levels to get a higher score, making the system even more broken lol. Like, they could’ve easily blocked you off from entering levels once you have to do the Proving Grounds lol. Overall, I enjoyed watching your reviews of these games and learning a new perspective on them. You have some interesting criticisms; some I agree with, some I don’t. I would say that I like the games a bit more than you ended up, but can understand why you aren’t the biggest fan of them. If anything, I’m glad that these games are getting more exposure. Idk how much a series not being the best can indicate why it was never popular. There are popular things that aren’t that good and unpopular things that are really good; however, it can certainly apply in some cases. Hopefully, someday the series will be revised and potentially improved upon.
