Great job Paul, I enjoyed re-hiking it in my mind all over again. It was a lot of fun and some mighty fine people. Thanks!

Just did this same trip about two weeks ago . Such a great hike and the stay at mountain harbour was fantastic.

+James Chapman I've never stayed over at Mountain Harbor to want to some day. What part did you stay in? Seems like they have a B&B or a hostel section.

The first night we stayed in the tree house which is just a room with a bed in a tree it is amazing so clean and cozy. Then next night we stayed on the trail at Bradley gap. Final night we stayed in the Amy Lee room all I can say is so inviting clean comfortable. My wife and I loved it, if you have not had their breakfast you are missing out well worth the money with out the stay but included in the Band B stay was by far the best breakfast I have ever had. My hat is off to the crew at the inn.

Thanks for the edit. Not showing how the up hills kick my out of shape tail. It was a great trip and a lot of fun.

have had similiar experiences with stakes pulling out in 40-50 mph winds in thunderstorms/heavy wind /rain when on the balds. On one occasion due to lightning and high winds.torrential rain I felt it was best to leave it collapsed on top of me and consider the tent like a bivy sac. lol. Predictable the ground gets wet, the soil saturated and the stake that seemed tight when put in dry gets loose with the wind tugging at it. . My solution is tie down with an appropriate length of paracord to a tree, tree root, or suitable rock in high winds. Try to get at least 3 point fixation to something that will not blown down , or pull out .

+George Pattis My last trip I used the tree roots and that held great. But sometimes it is tough when there is only loose dirt.
