This is such a dying art form. I’m 50 now but when I was in the 7th-8th grade here in Mississippi I took a class in leather stamping & sewing to make belts, pouches, etc., and wood crafting including spinning candle sticks on a lathe. I absolutely loved that class. I wished it was still introduced at that young of an age just so students could learn that if they choose to not attend college there are so many trades that they can work in and make a really good living such as a specialty carpenter or contractor.

Emily, in BSL, MS I took shop class and LOVED it. I am 52. :)

@@girlygirl2969 My dad taught agriculture for 32 years. I took him for my 4 high school years and it has always been my favorite class! I learned everything from horticulture to welding, business management, public speaking, parliamentary procedure, ag mechanics and rebuilding my own lawnmower motor. Tons of life skills in that class.

Dear Ron, I love this channel of yours because to me its the male side of the 1820's. And that is good Teachings. Both sides being taught. Men in those days worked very hard , so did the woman, but it was hard for the men to provide for their families! Thank you Lad for teaching real history. Ann

If you don't have them, you ought to buy some whet stones and mineral oil to help keep your chisels sharp. I usually always carry a small flat stone in my bag to help get the edge back up on my knives. Of course a large round stone and a file is great to have when you are using an axe or adze.

I love coyotes.. we live in rural northwest Missouri and they sing every night. I know they prey on people’s chickens and smaller livestock, but this was their home first. It kill’s me when people use live harmful traps. Our neighbor did that and I was so angry. He had a pile of dead coyotes in the creek bed on our property line

Since you live a distance, I assume, would a woman be armed at home and traveling for protection as well? I didn't expect the animals so wasn't sure where you were as opposed to Justine's travels. Thank you . Would be interesting to have a video of the times regarding safety.
