I've found a good source of the athletic tape to be farm supply stores. Seems to be exactly the same as what's sold elsewhere. It's used for horses and comes in double the width but is half the price of the "human" stuff. I just take a sharp utility knife and slice the roll in half, then I'm ready to go.

I didn’t listen to you and didn’t use protection so I absolutely cut up my thumb. I’ll be using athletic tape now. Learned my lesson

for thumb i personally prefer the harder material, with multiple wraps, but easy on tightness - they come off easily, and are way better for leverage

@@CarvingisFun awesome gloves I tested mine with my air rifle none went through but a top of blades will go through any gloves newbie carver should be awear of that not stab proof 👍🐾🦊🇮🇹🇬🇧

Indeed, slice resistant isn't stab proof. Still, some finger protection is way better than none!

I'm using finger bandages, mine have every 10cm a wound pad. Sure they are slimmer, but if you place the part with the wound pad where you could get cut they are awesome! Just a little bit more protection than just the tape
@CarvingisFun3 жыл бұрын
That is a cool option! I'll have to keep an eye out for some.

@@CarvingisFun I'm from Germany, so i don't know any US brands. But here is a link from the product (Manufacturer Website) just to get an idea. www.draco.de/dracoplast-fingerfix/ Have a great day!

I havent seen anything like that myself, but that could be because I wasn't looking for those specifically. For us, we will typically use individually packed bandages, band-aid is a brand that is common around here.

1:12 ...At our home depot , they sell 3 packs of A5 Firm Grip Cut Resistant Hi Visibility (L) for $15. These should be fine for safety eh ? 3:19 ...appreciate that tip with the tool wrap vs Athletic tape self grip....I will hunt for that today.. Thank you again for these budget tips for carving. cheers

I just bought some Amazon branded cut-resistant gloves. I didn't think about the black stuff potentially rubbing off the gloves and marking everything. Hopefully mine don't have that problem.

Hey Brian! Would you have an opinion on Flexcut's interchangable tool sets (SK107 or 108) and how they compare to their fix blade tools? Also on your website you gave stone carvings, do you do those with regular carving knifes/tools or do you use something else? Love the channel! Keep up the good work!
@CarvingisFun3 жыл бұрын
I personally haven't used Flexcut's interchangeable tools, but am usually weary of tools where the blades can completely detach. Still, I would probably use them for light carving but no dense wood. One thing I have learned about stone carving is you have tools that are only used for stone carving. The process dulls the tools quickly and works best with abrasive tools (files, rasps, dremels, stone chisels). Here is a video of me making a simple little carving kzbin.info/www/bejne/mGqsg3uhfrWFg9k

If I'm carving something small I usually just use regular platers. That sport tape is probably pretty nice also since one can re use them. But I just can't find any gloves that I like. I wish there was some super thin gloves out there (and there probably is). But everyone I tried just don't feel right,the thin garden gloves with those little rubber dot's is ok. But when I carve, I like to feel what I'm doing. And if the gloves are too thick,you basically don't have any feel of what one are doing. That's my biggest issue with gloves.
@CarvingisFun3 жыл бұрын
I hear ya, some gloves are just too thick and dont feel right.

Please do not use the basic gloves: they are not puncture-resistant. I learned that today when my knife went right through the basic glove and cut me to the bone on my index finger.
@CarvingisFun10 ай бұрын
Ouchies!!! Ya, they are just slice resistant, not proof but resistant. Leather and mesh gloves are more puncture resistant but do reduce dexterity
@trravisty10 ай бұрын
theyre not supposed to be puncture resistant they are not batman gloves
