@Johnny Dong first the paint peeled off the carbon effect dashboard. Then had electric window motor fail, emissions sensor fail, starter motor issues, rear widow rubber seal came out off the door frame and started leaking, battery fails due to alternator issues, and now in the garage for a loud humming noise coming from the rear of the car when I get up to around 40mph, and gets louder as I increase speed. I write this reply as I sit in a Nissan X trail hire car as my Passat is in the garage right now being repaired again. Maybe I’ve been unlucky but the worst car I’ve ever had, I’ll never have another Passat I’ve just ordered my new company car and gone for a Skoda Superb. I've got a 2016 Skoda Superb, chosen really after watching Matt's group review of the Superb, A4 and Passat estates. Really pleased with the car overall. Mine is the L&K model and it appears to be missing some features that I had thought were standard at that trim level. Agree that the gear stick does seem unnecessarily large, however there are times when you do want to control the gear that the car is is - especially on twisting mountain roads in ski resorts. Not sure I'd upgrade to the newest model though - there does not seem to be enough of an improvement over the generation I have. It would be a big cost to get get wireless Android Auto and a sunglasses holder.

Superb owner here: Had the 2018/19 model for over 2 years now. Plus compared it to the new one. A few points: 1. insulation bad. At 150km/h+ it gets REALLY loud, unbearable at 234 km/h. So it’s not great on German Autobahns. 2. The boot is a weapon of mass luggage storage. You just can not get it full. 3. It’s a bit too wind conscious. If your bombing down the autobahn gusts of wind make it a bit unstable. 4. Had constant problems with the driver side window. Been to the repair shop multiple times. Still dies every 10-15tkm. 5. Coming from a Skoda Octavia RS Diesel to a superb Sportline: the quality of the interior is inferior. The Octavia was tighter, everywhere and at everything.... The car infotainment is sluggish. And you have to pay an annual fee for remote control features :(

Everybody seems to love the Superb and while it has a lot of positives there are some negatives, I'll share my experience. I bought a 2019 Superb Estate Sportline with just over 40k miles. It cost around 18k, more with interest factored into the agreement, about 22k. The positives about this car are well known and don't need listing here (space, value etc. etc.) the negatives I experienced, probably just bad luck but still: - Every pothole, bump in the road or slightly steep speed bump was a problem, the car crashes into every one sending a loud bang sound into the car and jerking passengers. I've driven the same roads in the same style with a Focus Estate and it just handles everything way better. - It's very bouncy, contrary to the above if you go slowly over bumps the car continues to bounce a couple more times, I think becase it's just a very heavy car, don't have the same issues with other cars. - 3 out of 4 door locks broke within the 12 months I had the car, but this means that I had to spend days driving around with doors automatically locking and unlocking because the "intelligent" system takes over, the same lock broke twice so had the issue twice. - Infotainment system kept misbehaving, volume would turn down but not back up until a full off/on was performed. Other issues with android auto where the screen went a haze of colours instead of displaying the content, not the phone or the cables. Happened almost daily. - The tyres on the sportline version are 19" and very expensive (this is important if you buy it as an affordable family car). - Niggly bits are the car was very rattly, it looks premium from the outside or sitting in it but actually day to day driving every piece of plastic or trim had little rattles, I had to take sections off and stuff with tissue paper to fix it, the dealership fixed another, it wasn't a premium drive. - Terrible in the snow, tyres all had tread but i think due to it being the automatic varient i couldn't even get up slight inclines in snowy conditions, every other car could do it without skidding, again, this could be due to the weight, but it was a miserable experience last winter. Personally I think my issues come down to the fact that I had a Sportline trim and an SE-L or similar would actually be the better choice. It was a great car but in the 12 months I owned it I went back to the dealer about 8 different times with faults, and spent all my time driving just avoiding the smallest bumps in the road. Downgraded to a Focus Estate and while it isn't as nice or as roomy the drive is infinitely better. If you disagree with anything i've said that's fine, i'm just sharing my experience of this car that seems to get more praise than it's worth, especially when nearly 20k can buy you a massive array of better quality cars maybe slightly older or slightly more mileage.

The saloon/hatch (Skoda call it the limousine) has been way less fun since they ditched combination hatchback and saloon boot lid (The wires would fail after a few years where they went through the saloon hinge if you used it a lot though). The idea was so good BMW paid Skoda so they could use it in some one of their moneypits. One feature of the Skodas is that the length of the car is about the same regardless of the body type, so the hatchback has a very similar boot size up to the waistline of the car to the estate, so this review covers that body type very well too.
@Datoda4 жыл бұрын
@@peglor I dont know what you are talking about with the wires in the boot lid failing but I can confirm that the trunk space in the sedan version of the Skoda is pretty much exactly the same as in the estate. Its only missing a few centimeters if additional room at the very top but you never use that space in the estate unless you transport something really big, which is just as possible in the sedan version. We had a 2015 Skoda Superb L&K Sedan for almost four years and had no issues with any wires in the boot failing which is why I'm saying I dont know what that is about. The trunk space is impressively massive though, when you stand at the rear of the car and reach in you cannot touch the back of the rear seats without getting inside the trunk.

Had a Superb Estate before. Driving across France, Roofbox on top, bikes on the back.... motorway speeds.... Noise in the cabin was deafening!! Sold it. Bought a different German estate. (My Skoda said made in Germany on the bulkhead). The replacement car is much quieter. Skoda were great but they have become more expensive, but the cost cutting is still there.

That 'specialist', eh, autopilot worth buying though. It isn't just software that distinguishes the basic autopilot in Škoda, it's also hardware. And it gives a LOT compared to basic abilities. The advanced autopilot features a front view camera that resides on the front window. This camera provides for instant all-time monitoring of traffic and allows the car to detect that the front car has begun to move when you're at the traffic lights. I own a Superb MK3 280 hp with a basic autopilot. Effectively this works as follows. The basic autopilot only detects moving objects, because it uses sonar (acoustic measurements). It does detect when a front traffic slows down or when it speeds up. But it *does not" detect that a car in front of your began to move when you are standing at the traffic lights. It means that while in autopilot mode you have to detect this on your own, and in order to move while standing on the red light when it changes to green you have to press gas pedal. Otherwise, the car won't move, and you'll be continuing to stand still. With that specialist autopilot though you don't have to press gas. While at the traffic lights, the car will automatically detect that the front began to move forward, and your Škoda will automatically move forward without you having to press gas pedal. That is clever! You only have to pull that autopilot lever once when you start the car, and you're done. After that the car will not only slow down and speed up in the moving traffic, which is good on a highway, but it also will automatically start at the traffic lights, which is very handy in the city. I really do miss that advanced autopilot in my Superb, and adding it would require retrofitting a new front window with attached camera, and then programming car's ECUs. How to tell a Škoda Superb has an advanced autopilot? The car with that specialist autopilot will have a triangular-shaped notch in the front window, right under the mirror glass. If looking at the front windows from the outside of the car you only see a round-shaped hole, that's a standard autopilot with a sonar incorporated in the front grill. For someone interested, that Škoda is a bit of a disappointment to me. Having driven BMW E84 in various flavors for the last decade, I can't buy in how Škoda behaves on the road. It feels and drives like a large barge. Yep, this saves you from those punches that you get in BMW when you face a pothole on the road, but for that privilege you pay with that waggly behavior that nearly makes you sick.

Impressive car, great bang for the buck. The seats look very comfortable and remind of sports car seats. Dashboard is well thought out. Lot of space and discreet (boring) exterior design. 190hp diesel with AWD would be my choice. Neighbors wont be jealous either.
