The Shelby GT500 carbon fiber track version is around almost 100lbs lighter than the base model which weighs 4,187lbs. The Shelby GT500 is heavy because it has 6 intercoolers, huge brakes, and a dual clutch transmission. Dual clutch transmissions add weight as well.

This SLS is above the entry level AMG Merc but below the top end. I thoroughly enjoyed watching that Shelby almost beat a vehicle that's more comparable to the Ford GT. A sub 100 grand vehicle almost equaling to a true super car. I love it !

Interesting story: I was a salesperson for a Mercedes dealer just outside Detroit. A colleague said we had to go pick up a car from Edsel Ford II. I agreed to go. Out comes a 2012 SLS. I met the man also and he took me on a tour of his personal collection, which included two GTs, an original Lightning, Mustangs, etc.. We took pics together at the end. That was a great day! P.S. How he got the SLS was also a great story.

Life isn't a drag race but it is an interesting comparison showcasing the advancement of technology. A car that costs almost half as much is considerably faster only 8 years on.

As an American I have to give respect to that AMG..it put the power down and won the drag races...shows how advanced that car was for the time..As for the GT500 it's a 760hp top end weapon that pulls away from alot of fast cars and the fact that that Benz was that close even on the top end is amazing especially for being naturally aspirated......less weight and aero help that is a well engineered machine....imagine the mustang with a tune and minor bolt ons how fast they are and even e85! You can see why power per dollar us Americans love the ZL1s..GT500s and hellcats!! The modification capabilities ontop of already how fast they are

You can't go wrong with either the Shelby GT500 or that amazing Mercedes-AMG SLS. The fact that they were that close shows how evenly matched they are. And that SLS is from 2013? It still looks stunning to this day :D BUT THE SOUND OF THAT 5.2-L SUPERCHARGED V8 FROM THE SHELBY GT500 IS HEAVEN~~ Can't really hear that supercharger, but the engine still sounds godly~ Muscle car engines are like no other engine in this automotive industry, just sounds so raw.
