My 2003 Corolla 1.6 petrol never lets me down. Basic maintenance and this is it. We just did a 800km trip in two days and the car is 100% fine. Not the sportiest, nor am I a racing driver. It just gets the job done. And the ride is smooth, seats are comfortable and its overall quite good. Engine can be dull but rev it up to 4000rpm and its fun to drive.

sorry matt, i'm driving an auris hybrid, MY2015 and honestly, i got the car for my mom, thought it was that boring. After driving it for 5000 km on all possible roads i can say, the car is not boring, it just does not encourage you to be a hooligan. Waft along is the theme here. Of course there have been racey situations in traffic, yes the E-CVT and the engine were not happy about it, but the driving dynamics were excellent. just because a car inspires you to be civilized in traffic does not mean it's boring. in the case of the auris hybrid if the driver knows what he wants and how to get it, driving will be fully enjoyable.

Great review. The best channel on KZbin. I just have a suggestion, please include the cars’ reliability within your reviews. This can be obtained from past consumer feedbacks and reliability records. Many people are after the fun to drive feel and horse power and torque while most people do consider the car’s reliability when purchasing new cars. They are more interested in comfort, low fuel consumption, low cost of service and more importantly Reliability. Thanks again Mat

Reliability, easy to DIY fix, maintenance is easy. Just oil change and keep coolant water check every year. Spark plugs at 120k Miles, coolant at 150 k Miles/12 years, brake fluid every 2-10 years, and air filters every 30k Miles/2 years. Hybrid battery has 10 years unlimited mileage Wich never fail in 99.999% case and even replacement cost only €2350 new battery that last over a decade.

@@cismay1270 Good car for owning is not the same as borrowing like the reviewer. Reliability is no. 1 Priority for most intelligent people. Auris hybrid handling is well enough, 10y warranty on the battery and only need regular oil change. Almost as agile and supple as Golf but way more reliable than anything. Ford focus and Opel Astra are not as supple adsorbing bumpy roads. Mazda 3 and Hyundai i30 with manual transmissions are also better than any european cars in terms of reliability. Honda is plagued with its Turbo engines Oil dilution problem.

The car will outlive the planet, doesn’t look bad and you never really have to worry about stuff breaking. Perfect for us that are on a budget and don’t have expenditure for expensive overpriced crap that inevitably have costly problems (but if people are honest who does have this spare cash). Tip from an Auris driver: never, ever use the horn. A mobility scooter horn is ten times louder. A clown's car horn gets more respect. In a really scary situation (involving, say, an 18 wheeler, like the one in the film Duel) it's probably safer to jump out of the car than try and get the other guy's attention by using the horn. Other than that, a fantastic little car!

@gravemind653623 күн бұрын
Corolla cross is crap compared to a 2016 Auris although the 1.4 Diesel is a poor choice, the 1.2T engine with 6 speed manual box is brilliant, the 1.6 Diesel is okay but the 1.2T engine is best suited to the car. If you like hyrbrids (I don't) then that was a good option too.
@zvocnikk23 күн бұрын
@@gravemind6536 I don't agree that the Corolla Cross is a bad car. In my opinion, it's excellent. You sit high, it has very low fuel consumption, and it looks good. The essential difference compared to the Auris is that you sit higher. The only downside is the CVT transmission, which takes some getting used to. Otherwise, the engine you're mentioning, the 1.2... This is one of Toyota's weaker engines. I've read opinions that it's problematic and prone to breakdowns.

Renaming the Corolla Auris for the European market is one of the more bizarre decisions in automotive history. The Corolla name is an icon in automotive history, so why not just stick with it? Also, and this is a more general European thing, I dont really understand the point of compact or C-segment hatchbacks. I mean: If you get an Auris over a Yaris, its probably because, you want more space, for instance because you have a family. So why then make the boot really small just to shorten the car a bit? The Auris to me only makes sense in its estate form. And actually I have nothing wrong with the traditional sedan shape either. I would much rather have a Corolla sedan, as they still get in the US, Asia and everywhere else in the world including a few European markets, than this bland looking and unpractical Auris hatchback.
@gravemind65365 жыл бұрын
A Corolla sedan is no more practical then a corolla hatchback, yes it can carry length but anything even slightly too tall and its near impossible. A hatchback has as much usable space as its equivalent sedan version because of the added height, you wouldn't believe what you can fit in these cars. The other reason is the added legroom which is much higher in an Auris than a Yaris.
@gravemind65363 жыл бұрын
A hatchback if far more practical than a stupid sedan which has had half it boot space crushed in to make it look sleek or appealing to snobs.

When are you going to review the Nissan Pulsar which is about the same but much better than the Toyota Auris?

Hmmm well does not excite in one way or another - I do think the front section looking pretty dynamic, while the rest is sort of a stiff interpretation of a dynamic language. But most of all I am surprised about some of these misses, like lamp above the sun screen, the missing storage on one side towards the backseats , and that small storage space in the middle console rear that seams more or less useless. These are things that I would not expect from one of the worlds largest car producers - and I wonder is this not a very large segment, also for Toyota ?.

Good that car being sold also in US market.

I actually think that the correct translation could be "good taste" as auris in italian also means "buongusto"... But who am i to judge

Why oh why don't you ever test the bottom of the range, starts at 16k but the one you want starts at over 20k, then say its an average a to b car?

Ye i also want to see the New yaris. My familiy has the first gen yaris, and im wondering how the new 1 is. And since here in Norway the state fucks you over when you buy a new car, you want one that last forever and is kind of cheap

Actually this toyota with 1.4 diesel engine will go 400k miles with no problems. Focus and vw barely go to 200k miles with no problems. So if u want a used car to last 30 years buy this toyota

In america is called a Scion IM. Muuuuuch cooler, it has better infotainment system and its much much much styled.

The name auris comes from the Latin word aurum meaning gold according to Toyota. Fair enough, what's the problem ?
@Free4Noob7 жыл бұрын
I might be mistaken but i thought the name Auris refers to Aurum, which means gold in latin... ?!

Damn straight I'll buy it over it's competition because it's Toyota. Reliability over all. It gets you from point a to point b.

So does the Koreans. For less money. And with better warranties.

If you have the glass sun roof head room is terrible. I'm not *that* tall (190cm/6'3") but with the drivers seat in the lowest position my head touches the roof. Leg room in the drivers seat is also not great. All in all, not a car for tall people.
@jonahswain6 жыл бұрын
In fact, the leg and head room on the Toyota aygo, a much smaller car, is substantially better.

I like that it has small widows. The new corolla has larger windows....that personally don't find it interesting... You should watch the road anyway.
@gravemind653623 күн бұрын
It's good in summer because it keeps the call cooler. Never had an issue with the side windows being small I just wish the back window was bigger and the A pillar blindspots were better but it does get a reversing camera and the mirrors are spot on, the previous owner of mine selected the parking pack so I have front and rear sensors too.

Why do people insist in saying "any way, shape or form" when it's almost always enough to say "in any way"? A car can't be fun to drive in shape or form, it can only be fun in some way, right?
