Toyota have been killing it since the moment they started selling outside of Asia. Their reputation for reliablity isn't just fan boy talk. They have been causing problems for American and European car makers since the 70s along with Honda. Toyota got a lot of good press too from the invincible Hilux from Top Gear they even used it as a model name in their newer versions. Toyota also has Scotty Kilmer bigging them up you won't find a mechanic who doesn't say Toyota and Honda are reliable and they are loved by Taxi drivers in the UK. Its all for a reason and its because Toyota are the kings of reliability. Even the hot headed boy racers loved the Toyota Supra and MR2 not because it was superior stock because many cars matched and beat them stock but because they could handle remaps and tuning far better than other cars and would reliabiliy go far beyond what they were intended for. Toyota have been killing it since before half the world was even born.

@@si4632 I disagree entirely. The ceed looks much more distinguished with better feeling materials on the inside. But that's not an argument because looks are subjective. In Greece, an Astra is more expensive to buy than a Ceed. Maybe it differs where you're from. But even if you get a good deal on one, and it turns out to be cheaper than a KIA, Opels are considered notoriously unrielable over here. So again, a Ceed would be much more economical in the long run. Especially if you consider the 7 year warranty. I had a KIA for 7+years and the warranty covered absolutely everything. Bought mine in Dec ‘18. The front seats are supporting of my really bad back problems. I have driven 6hrs at a time with no pain. On flat terrain I get somewhere over 60mpg at 40-45mph. That’s just the REGULAR engine... not a hybrid! Runs beautifully on highway on higher speeds at about 42mpg. There is a very slight hesitation when you nail the gas pedal down, but it is seriously able to pass other cars. It takes off. Toyota claims the 2020 model will have even more power. The back seat IS rather small, but it’s okay. It’s a Corolla...giant people aren’t likely to want one. Not great on cup holders. This car has so many little extras however, that make it very luxurious. Interior noise is okay as far as a small car goes. It can be loud on an aggregate surface. Not exhausting at all on long trips. Has LOTS of aerodynamic tricks to make it quiet. The cruise control radar will control braking also if someone pulls in front. It drives itself but the radar tends to let it travel across the lane a bit. Has a stiffer sports car-like suspension but it isn’t the least bit uncomfortable. When fully loaded with people it doesn’t sink down. There are no wiggles and marshmallowy turns. Comes with Toyota Entune which can be complicated. Don’t spend the extra $ on the hybrid. Don’t need it. DO get an extended warranty to cover any computer issues. That’s the bad thing about ALL cars today. Repairs are a financial nightmare due to all of the electronics. You don’t work on these in your driveway! People are always standing around looking at it when I have it parked at a store. It’s seriously cute. Definitely would suggest you buy one. Got 20 yrs out of my Tundra. No one beats Toyota. Nobody.

With so many flavours of hybrid cars, two details I would love to hear in reviews: 1. The range in EV mode, if any With charging points at home and/or at work, a car with a useable EV only range; the IC engine can be standby for use only on long journeys out of town. 2. The EV only speeds.
@MrEq00005 жыл бұрын
Toyota's hybrid battery lasts about 2 km-s in the city before IC engine kicks in. It doesn't look like much but charging time is also quite quick (thanks to the size of battery) and soon enough EV mode kicks in again. This review is about hybrid which you can't charge yourself. Not at home, not at work. Only IC engine charges cars battery. This is most common hybrid system used by Toyota. And it works, I have Rav4, and average consumption is 6.8 l/100 km, 100% city driving. Before with CRV average was 11+ l/100 km. For me it's huge difference.
@IzzyFX007 Жыл бұрын
Range is like he said 2 km or so. EV only speed is around 40 km/h if put on EV mode. If its on automatic, you can cruise control with 90 km/h on battery only. Fuel economy is around 4.5L/100km (1.8 hybrid)

After driving BMW's, Audi's and VW's for years, I test drove one on Monday whilst my wife's car was in for a service (Toyota Aygo). The service I have received from Toyota compared to other manufactures has been vastly better and so on Friday, I ordered a new Excel Sport Touring 2.0l to replace my 3 series BMW. Massively impressed with economy and best of all value for money compared to the German cars. Just a shame I didn't do it sooner.

Great review and on the strength of this I bought an Icon Tech Corolla two weeks ago (with the Carwow discount, thank you very much). Generally a very good car. However, there is a fault with the Nearside Front Sensor (it keeps activating even when there is nothing in front of the vehicle). This is irritating at best and dangerously distracting when driving at worst. The battle I'm in now is to get Toyota GB and the Dealership to stop blaming each other for the appalling level of customer service I am now subject to in trying to get this problem resolved on a brand new car. It's enough to make me want to give the car back and revert back to VW. Apparently I cannot do that now though (even though I've had the car for less than 14 days) as I have highlighted the issue and they are "doing their best" to resolve it.

There is a very, very good reason for the back of the seat using a ratchet for adjustment: I have a Citröen C4 with a system like this, a lever to adjust the seat. I really never need to recline the seats but every time the car comes from maintenance the mechanic has adjusted the seat and then I can never, NEVER, EVER get the seat back to the same position. And no way you can do a small adjustment while driving, if you don't feel comfortable. So, ratchet adjustment for the win!

@EdGilchrist2 жыл бұрын
Yes. You're dead right. And so we just "went out and bought it!" We fell in love with the bi-tone GR Sport... what a stunning design. Couldn't believe that this is a Corolla. I've had strangers ask me what it is, while they admired it. One said, "Excuse me. But what is that car?.... a Corolla? You're kidding me!" . Also... great to drive, comfortable and handles well. And I've got nearly 65mpg average after several weeks of driving around town. I wanted economy (who doesn't these days?) but this has been way over my expectations. But if you want rear leg room, well, things aren't so great in that department and it's hard to get in and out at the back if you are not a small child. The front access is also a little low, but the doors are wider and at least you can adjust the seats. Nevertheless, once you are in those front bucket seats (GR Sport), well, that's a different matter.. it's simply beautiful... ...although the GR Sport doesn't get the title because it's quick. So beware if you want great 0-60 numbers (even the RAV4 'tank' is quicker in that respect). This Corolla just LOOKS like a sports car. (And I've even had nut jobs rev up next to me at traffic lights, hoping to burn me off. Well, they burn me off because I don't play their game, but how disappointed they must be when they look in their rear view mirrors and see that this car is even more stylish from the front than it is from the side. . Main niggles? As Mat said, "Toyota-isms". - button placements, one of which is the drive mode button (ECO, Normal, Sport). It requires you to contort your hand behind the gear stick to get at it. But the upside is that the Sport function is worth the effort - it's a rare sport button that actually does something... try it. - only 2 USB sockets in the front and none in the back at all. - The back does, however, have space for 4 bottles, 2 in the door and 2 in the centre arm rest, but the doors have no normal door pockets. - When driving, the front windows rattle a bit if you wind them part way down. How was this missed at the design stage? (It doesn't seem like this 'feature' is just bad luck for me.) - Poor storage design in the boot.... hooks and things are in short supply or poorly placed and no pockets at all. - No through hole" in the rear seats for long items. But even the RAV4 has this little 'feature'. - The steering makes a loud 'CLUNK' on full lock, left and right. Never had that on any car in 50 years of driving. There has always been some degree of softening. Maybe these cars only get tested in straight lines or on roads that have at least a 30 foot turning circle. - I found the user manual very long and hard to use. Is that just me, I wonder? . On a car that is more expensive to buy than most of its competitors, you might expect better. It's a bit disappointing But even having said all of this, I still agree with Mat's verdict.

Matt: I'm enormously grateful to you (and a Toyota owmer) because between you you've helped me redirect my choice and switch to a Corolla instead of in my case the Yaris clone, viz a Mazda 2 Hybrid. In your review of the smaller car you found that, as with the other guy, it wouldn't start at one stage. The problem appears to occur because the vehicle has an unusually small 12‐volt battery and if, like me, one's an infrequent motorist the thing won't start on occasion because there's insufficient charge to do so. Accordingly I cancelled my order (it was going to be a brand new Mz2H) and instead am about to take delivery of the larger vehicle. Your discovery and report about the Yaris"s failure to fire up in certain circumstances saved me potential grief and a wadful of wonga; what additionally put me off the automotive baby brother as it were was the manufacturer's staggering 'answer' to that third party when Toyota advised that to overcome the described difficulty purchase of a slow trickle‐charger should do the trick... Xjhkjgytt! A breathtaking suggestion. That almost unbelievable 'response' cost Mazda my custom. Reiterated gratitude to you, Matt, for enabling me to avoid what could have been a colossal mistake had I stuck to my original plan. Buyer(s) beware!
