Took delivery of the Tekna+ ePower e4orce last month & I’m not sure why reviewers & people in the comments are negative about the economy. I use this everyday as part of my job along with gigging as a musician most weekends not only in the Midlands but all over the UK, so I easily cover between 50-80 miles a day with a good mix of city, countryside & motorway driving & yet I consistently achieve an average 48-55mpg, regardless of what mode I’m driving in. Compared with the 2017 Vauxhall Insignia 2.0 diesel I had beforehand, which was averaging around 40-44mpg, this is definitely a step up. Sorry folks, but no complaints here.

I took delivery last week and I get better than the advertised fuel consumption already. I say already because the dealership told me not to look at the usage figures until it hits 1000km because the battery charging slowly scales up. I use the B Pedal when driving on country roads/highways and the e pedal when driving around down. B Pedal is kind of like a more aggressive engine breaking that recharges the battery. The E Pedal is much more aggressive but once you get the hang of it you can get some really efficient city driving done. Where it does poorly on fuel economy is on uneven roads/dirt tracks. You get around 28 mpg on those types of roads. I guess the magic doesn't work as well there. Driving not particularly carefully and with the air con on when it is 37 degrees outside I was managing 47 mpg on highways. Supposedly this will improve. You can get 62mpg using the E Pedal around town once you get used to it. So far I haven't tried the "Eco" mode, which seems to control how fast you can accelerate and the aircon intensity. I'll give it a go at some point. It really is a very refined car, nice interior and more engaging than most cars in its class to drive. To be honest I'm a bit puzzled by some of these reviews with the bad fuel economy.

Whilst not having an X Trail ePower, we have just returned from a holiday in the Lake District our first long journey in our Qashqai ePower Tekna so we have some experience of the ePower drivetrain. Just over a 1000 miles of driving and lots of motorway interspersed with the very hilly area. We achieved an overall 51.3 mpg. Best on the motorway at 70 mph was 52.5 mpg. Overall mpg over our 6000 miles of ownership is 51 mpg very close to the advertised figures. For an SUV that's acceptable in our view. Having owned various hybrid cars, this is the best we have owned for our needs. The lack of those annoying CVT gearboxes is a huge bonus. The driving experience is very smooth. Sport mode provides quite impressive acceleration for a fairly large car too. In reference to Carwow savings we did initially go down that route but in the end we just haggled and got an extremely good price from our local Nissan dealership. My wife is very good at haggling and is not at all shy about pushing for the best price. The dealer also threw in a full tank of fuel, car tax and mats and boot liner. 😁 Would we recommend it? Definitely. Is the extra cost worth it? If you haggle well then yes. We got ours for the base model price without involving a third party. We don't like diesel cars and EVs are from our point of view, not value for money nor logistically practical unless you are a city dweller. Tesla's are over priced and have poor build quality and after sales back up so were never an option. Your views may differ if course. 🤔

I think the point of this E Power system is an EV drive train driving experience without the need to plug in or range anxiety. Also no whirring CVT transmission like most other hybrids which give the better fuel savings... You did not mention the motor was a very sophisticated variable compression engine. Summary. Game changer as EV driving experience without range anxiety or need to plug in or weight of large battery pack. Trade off... More economical than petrol car and less economy the conventional Hybrids with CVT transmissions. Overall... A great driving experience. My brother has ordered a QASHQAI E Power. At present in Australia the EV charging infrastructure is very poor and a big country with most population in cities. Good option until EVs evolve with more efficient battery technology, less weight, less use of resources and lower costs, better range, better charging time. Depreciation on early EVs may be very high as expensive to buy and as later technologies improve the first or second generation battery technology become not a great option unless cheap. The Christmas / New Year holiday season and popularity of escape from the cities left EV owners having to wait hours in a queue at key charging stations. No option to stay in a motel and charge overnight as all fully booked. Many of us are wondering if EV only is a good option?? A spread of technologies is far better.. We could tax cars by weight so the worst for manufacturing resource use favours light weight cars. Aptera, Citroen Ami and Ollie as flag wavers of low resource efficiency. My brother bought an X-Trail E Force Hybrid as the safety and sophistication of electric 4WD witl the Ti seemed better value and better availablity in Australia. X Trail made in Japan. QASHQAI in UK with very high local demand. Loves it.

For me this is a must buy, definitely not a "consider". When you weigh up the luxury and performance vs the price, particularly vs the very crappy looking (both inside and out) Rav 4 and more expensive outlander, this is the one to get. In top spec hybrid AWD trim. The economy is still "good enough" vs most petrol engines and you NEVER need to plug it in which means no issues for street parkers like myself. As an every day driver and long distance cruiser, this Nissan is a supremely balanced car. The only things, literally THE only things I could fault it on were non adaptive cup holders/crappy rear armrest, and lack of ventilated seats. That's it. It ticks every other box as a comfort car that has decent spirited acceleration when needed. I mean the top spec hybrid is the same price as the flagship CX-5 turbo here but has a much nicer interior and goes harder and is definitely more economical. In fact, IMO, the top spec TI-L with the lighter quilted leather option (and red outside, yum) looks like a much more expensive German car interior. I could imagine doing all my LONG "around Australia" drives in this, but the waiting list is already crazy for the TI-L hybrid AWD and I couldn't get one anytime soon, so I settled on an MG HS AWD - for now. I got a truly ridiculous deal on a brand spanking new 2022 model with metallic paint, for many thousands less than people are selling demos and used ones for - in basic white no less. From deal negotiation to delivery in my hands was all of 3 days total and I needed a car immediately, and I gotta tell you, for the price, it's been an amazing little thing and wonderful to drive interstate with with excellent lane keeping and adaptive cruise tech.

I was interested in your comment that you prefer the new x trial more than the RAV4. I have ordered a rav4 and it should arrive in May. but after this drive, I'm not sure if the RAV4 will be the right choice. from the point of view of driving economy, the RAV4 is definitely more economical. the driving dynamics of the RAV4 hybrid are also not bad. but in comparison with the quality and the luxurious interior, the xtrail is better. so I'm in doubt

I still have the first gen X-Trail from 2004. Really practical car and powerful enough with its 2.5L NA engine. It still has the conventional AT transmission instead of the newer CVT's so that's also a plus. Looks decent too with its boxy design, before Nissan went all bland from 2010 onwards. This new one is coming back to its roots, liking it so far, but not the CVT.

it's also a shame that they decided to end assembly of Nissan vehicles in my country due to major cost cutting policies enacted in 2020. If this X-Trail eventually gets to my shores from Japan, then it will certainly be more expensive thanks to import taxes. It will have to compete with cheaper, locally assembled direct competitors like the Honda CR-V and Toyota Fortuner. They still sell the T32 facelift X-Trail in my country today, but nobody's really buying it since it's more expensive than the competition.

For all those finding it weird how this is a game changer or when Matt will explain any plus points deserving of the video title - Carwow is not a car review channel - they make money from you by using their ‘deal’ finder…. It’s in their interest if you buy ‘any’ car. Imagine if Carwow started to really be critical of a brand or car - that manufacturer will just refuse to have them be an intermediary - then Carwow’s business model fails - you see the conflict?

I have a problem with this vehicle. The Honda Civic Camera car in front of the Nissan use a similar system. BUT i really question the reliability of Nissans system. While the civic and xtrail have the same battery capacity, the civic has a more efficient system that doesn’t stress the battery as much because at high speed the engine connects directly to the wheels instead of the electric engines. Nissan uses a turbo charged engine which is really stupid because that just another thing that can break. Civic has a NA engine that is bigger and less stressed.

The Nissan is a serial hybrid where as the Honda is a parallel hybrid. There are differences as you have already observed. I should check if either vehicle uses premium fuel or not. The extra complexity of hybrids is potentially a problem if something goes wrong. So I guess get the longest warranty possible.
