I pre ordered my EV6 and picked it up Oct 2021 having never even driven it. For the first few months it felt like I was driving something extra special as I had a lot of head turning from passers by and even had people waiting for me out side the supermarket and at a car park in the Lake District so they could enquire what this amazing looking car was. Fast forward 34 months and 39k miles later and what do I think now? Well I still think the car is fabulous, it’s extremely refined, effortlessly quick and relaxing on both town and long distance driving. In 2022 we took it to the centre of Paris, last year we went to Belgium (to watch the F1) and have been to central London so many times charge free ! I love the V2L and frequently have interested people at the campsite wondering how we have a real fridge, toaster, kettle, 2 ring burner hob and lights all running of the 3.6kw outlet. The car is still totally squeak and rattle free so far. The only fault was a squeaky drivers seat base which was replaced under warranty. I charge overnight for 7p/kw so it’s equivalent to 325mpg. I spend roughly £25/month on electric. Almost free ! I plan to keep the EV6 at least until 7 years old and can highly recommend one to potential buyers. Hope you like this review.

Fun fact: the full recline feature is called the "zero gravity" mode. What it means is that the seat reclines at a specific angle so that your weight is distributed more evenly, improving blood circulation so you're going to feel like weightless. It's a very Korean thing

I am old enough to remember a time when Kia was the cheaper sister brand of rather low rent Korean manufacturer Hyundai...this was the early 1990s. But move forward 5 years, and the cars were actually OK: reliable, fairly robust, quite simple and still unsophisticated on the road. Move forward another decade to the mid late 2000s, the cars were becoming very reliable and were displaying hints of innovation and style. And then it really went up a level with the Kia Stinger GT in 2017: excellent design, superb build quality...and the thing drives like an old school BMW. And now...this. You've come a long way, baby!

He is overly forgiving though. "Scratchiness" and cheap feeling plastics are usually a big problem for him, here he glosses over it as "to be expected" and there is "only a little wobbliness in the center console", while he flexes the thing from side to side by almost an inch. I feel Mat has a thing for the underdog and lets that cloud his impartiality a bit sometimes. You can also see that in the drag races. Of course the standards for a "cheaper" car will be lower than for some 80 000 to 120 000 Pound car, but still it seems he just enjoys reviewing stuff that isn't in the premium segment, even though he himself seems to only drive the expensive stuff.

EV6 RANGE PROBLEM I’ve had two test drives in the Kia Ev6, it’s great, everything the reviewers say it is. I arranged a longer test drive today as I have never owned an EV and needed first hand experience of range… if it was even close to WLTP figures I was ordering one at end of test. Test car was a 77kwh RWD GT Line S. it had a 98% charge and was showing a 285 mile range ( even at this point I thought the projected range was low, but I so wanted to be proved wrong ) WLTP range is 328 for a fully charged RWD. The outside temp was 12c and throughout the test it mostly rained… the car was in ECO throughout. Heating was on for first 25 miles or so, including heated steering wheel and seats, but I turned heating to setting one and seats and steering wheel cancelled heat output. I did 132 miles on test… 60 motorway, 60 A/B road miles, and about 12 miles urban driving. I used 75% regenerative braking and hardly used the brakes at all, the system was that good. At end of test battery was showing 92 miles range ? This equated to 224 miles off a 98% charge, providing I got the full 92 miles out of the batttery…. At start the car said I had 285 miles ? Interestingly, the car at start and end of test showed 2.9 m/kWh on display. This works out at 77 x 2.9 = 223. 3 miles… an exact measure of what the car was doing. In conclusion, WLTP figures of 328 miles … The car at start said I had a 285 mile range… My actual range at best would have been 224 ? And the car itself verified my figures via its miles per kWh display. I have been in touch with Kia UK but was offered no interest, explanation, or concern…. I was told to go on the EV FORUMS to see what they said. I really like this car and was prepared to stump up over £52k for it today…. If anyone can refute these figures or explain the 100 mile discrepancy in the range I would be appreciative ( I have photos of display at start middle and end of test to corroborate the range I achieved )

Some company, PLEASE make us a basic, affordable electric car that can travel 600 miles fully charged. It does not have to have 3 electric motors with the horsepower and torque of a Mack truck, or a 0-60 speed of 3 seconds. Just a simple, basic, reliable, long range, single motor FWD electric car.
@magl33to3 жыл бұрын
"All I want is twice the range of any ev on the market for half the price! Is that so much to ask??"
@AudiophileTubes3 жыл бұрын
@@magl33to Well, maybe not half the price, but there are smaller electric motors that have less HP output, with less current draw than ones used in the EV industry today. It is possible to manufacture a more basic vehicle, that is slower and less powerful than most electric EV's today, with much better range.
@adrianguggisberg36563 жыл бұрын
@@AudiophileTubes Firstly, FWD is rubbish in any car, but particularly in EVs. Glad everyone is moving towards RWD. And secondly, unlike with ICE cars, max power output has little to no effect on consumption/range in EVs. It's entirely up to you how much of it you want to unleash.
@JackMott3 жыл бұрын
The thing is, once you have a 600 mile battery, which costs like $40,000, it only costs another couple grand to have 1,000 horsepower. So reducing the power doesn't really help you make the car cheaper by much. It is the range that is expensive.
@AudiophileTubes3 жыл бұрын
@@JackMott But doesn't a smaller motor with less HP (that can still move a small EV rather well and drive only the front wheels) have much less voltage/current draw than most EV cars today (many with multiple motors), thus effectively increasing range?

@@RoadcraftNottingham agreed. The Nissan is a lovely car from what I've seen but its charging tech is behind before it even launches. The wife really wants one though and it looks great.

@@RoadcraftNottingham A totally valid point! Slow charging is one of the biggest obstacles - along with the lack of enough charging points - that stops people from buying electric cars. For me personally it's not so much of an issue because the most trips I make are to and from work. The few times when I use the car to go on vacation, slower charging power is manageable, I think. But this will not be true for everyone! I'm sure Nissan too will improve their charging power in the near future, as will all other car manufacturers. @@Swwils That sounds wrong. What's your source for this information? Afaik, SK Innovation is Hyundai Motor Group's battery supplier and they produce NCM 811 batteries, which are Li-ion batteries with 8:1:1 ratio of nickel, cobalt and manganese. SK Innovation is trying to minimize cobalt and maximize nickel in the next few years, but that's not a huge cost saver - I think it's mostly for PR-reasons, since 2% of global cobalt mining is done by child labor. But it's still Li-ion batteries. Li-ion batteries can be cheap enough to make profitable vehicles though, as long as the respective OEM invests enough into trying to do so.
