I rented the CRV for 3 weeks in Turkey and omg the car was amazingly comfortable to drive and sit in. And their is ample room, way more than you can ever need and seats 3 at the back comfortably. The engine is amazing and it's only a 1.6 Diesel! Even fully loaded the car more than enough power. The 9 speed gearbox is mesmerising, 180+ kmh and it's doing just under 2000rpm.

Here’s the thing, reliability is never really a issue with these types of cars if given regular servicing and although I agree Honda engines remain equally good from start of buying to end, vw offers better dynamics and is actually a more tech loaded,feature loaded,faster,more comfortable and overall has a more better Diesel engine.

Spot on....garage bills or lack there of are great. Underneath everything, the Honda is in a league of its own. Has the overall best quality feel and the best by far quality in reality. The RAV4 might shade it in the oddway, but overall the sheer completeness of the Honda is head and shoulders above the other two. I have had 2 RAV4s and 2 CRVs and the Hondas were so much more classy and in my experience more reliable. I wouldnt even try a Tiguan based on reports of multiple issues. The mark one had a bad reputation in the garage trades and with the benefit of hindsight (here in 2024) this newer version is reported to be even worse for faults. Buy one on PCP by all means, but dont buy it off the dealer at the end. A CRV will las decades!

As much as I like Toyota, their designs are looking increasingly desperate lately. I understand they're trying to move past their reputation of being 'boring' but take it easy you guys. There is always a place for no nonsense offerings. VW these days seem to be taking on that role. Their stuff are more reliable than they used to be and look simple and smart.
@mjames21174 жыл бұрын
Toyota don't appear to give good value for money when there are other better cars available. They always seem lacking especially in cargo space due to the angular designs. The Honda CRV ticks a lot of boxes except really poor handling/ suspension but you do see a lot of rough ones about now so wonder if they are skimping/ reducing costs on the important stuff.. mechanicals and engines.

@@mjames2117 The Toyota and Honda will undoubtedly outlast the VW, but it doesn't matter to a person buying a new car with warranty. @amstrad79b8 жыл бұрын
Fuel consumption is not an issue when you have a better view of the road ahead. So you have a few milliseconds more to react to a dangerous incident. The handling is worse but you should also know the limitations of your vehicle. You are in a public road not a rally circuit. And one more thing, many of us cannot fit in small and low ride cars. Also if you have child seats you need the height to do everything easily and not break your back. It's easy to scorn tall cars but there are groups of people that we like and need them. SUVs are not for those who ride Fiat Puntos, Mazda MX5s, Alfa Romeos or Skoda Octavias...

The new Volkswagen Tiguan is small on the outside but overall volume is bigger than the others,it has powerful turbo engine alongside responsive handling, not to mention that the Tiguan looks elegant and classy from the outside something that Honda and Toyota have not yet mastered. The people calling the Tiguan boring are the ones who are too ''Hipster'' and prefer to drive plastic Japanese cars with the designs that scream ''trying too hard to look cool'', because they cannot afford such beauty. One problem we have in looking at new cars is problems for the owners of medium to large dogs. We have two big labradors (working style and long legged) and have found the current trends in cars are not useful. Firstly the rear lips are far two high for dogs to jump in and out (start to damage legs) especially when the boot floor isn't flat you could use a ramp but then you need more room to store the ramp and no you just can't dump it on the back seat. Secondly all these sloping backs don't just remove head space from rear passengers but they make it difficult for dogs to sit in the boot. When you do a practicality test can you take into account larger dogs, a lot of people have them. I appreciate that good old fashioned low lipped, flat floored, square ended estates have gone out of fashion with companies and designers but the need is still there.

@@trespasser121 Dont be ignorant. Tho true for 1.5L turbo engines, WHICH IS NOT THIS CAR REVIEWED, it was only a handful among nearly 900 THOUSAND units sold (per year, that is). I'd take that any day over a VW. Toyota... well, faulty RAV4 engine affected nearly 100 000 cars, which in the extreme scenario, could catch on fire. So... Still, any day over a VW.

If the Tiguan is like any other VW, it will be in and out of the mechanics garage with issues after 30,000 km. The Honda and the Toyota on the other hand will be very reliable.

Tiguan is quieter on the inside and more spacious. You can get it with 3rd row. My only concern is the US models are made in Mexico. I don’t think i can trust the reliability.

I think Japanese cars are a lot better than Germans. I think the VW is too overrated a brand. I'm not saying they're bad, but I still think the Toyota is a much higher quality car than Tiguan.

@@vhborges yeah, I really like it. I have back problems where I have two dessicated discs and I had a Qashqai before. Reason I bought this was for the different adjestments I can make to the seat (electric leather) and although I'm not comfortable all the time it's comfortable majority and the discomfort is mainly down to my back, Only issue I've had lately is that I've started to get drips of water come in through the rear view mirror and also the drivers footwell, which is odd

I still drive my 2012 Tiguan, such a delightful, peppy SUV. It’s a little heavy on gas but I got safety and enormous enjoyment on highway driving. Maintenance is surprisingly little. Mufflers, brakes, exhaust still the original one. Put on Four new tires and yearly windshield wipers plus every 8000k service.Yes I don’t have the high tech gizmos which is just fine. Will wai t for the electric or hybrid in my next Tiguan

Great review as always, Mat. I would not be comfortable with buying a VW. There are problems with the diesel engines, biturbo TSI engines and the DSGs. There's no car without faults but it seems VW (Audi, Seat, Skoda...) just has way more than others. Can't argue with the reasons the VW won this review (or any review in any media for that matter) but I think people will finally start seeing around reviews (in general) and start buying other manufacturer's cars. I would love to have a GTI Golf or even the biturbo diesel Passat with DSG but a) I don't have the money, b) can I trust the company anymore. They just pulled out from WRC and WEC (not officially) because of the emissions crisis and the ludicrous bill they got for it. And yes, I'm just a bitter Astra owner :)

@@YourLocalUkrainianGerman Wrong on that one. A Toyota will be more reliable than any make of german car. Also, on german cars you pay a lot of extra money for equipment that comes standard on other makes. German manufacturers don't give good value for money. Americans don't buy many german cars compared to the European countries who are still in thrall to 'the badge'. The U.S is full of Hondas and Toyotas.

@@briantitchener4829 I know that. But I still don't understand, how they shouldn't give enough for that price. Sure, Volkswagen didn't have many systems earlier on board. But that quality in (almost) every German car… (except e.Go Life 90, VW T-Cross).

@sic22l8 жыл бұрын
Honda's AWD system is a waste of space. More importantly - these car's don't need one at all. They will never go off road. Never. Interior is all plastic? 3008 has higher quality interior than any car in this comparison.
@intrepidmilotic59998 жыл бұрын
sic22l Some will go off road, some people like myself live in areas or countries where not all the roads are Asphalt and we have a lot of snow,mud etc...so AWD is a must, as for the Interiors to each their own but 1 thing for sure is that Toyota is the ugliest with the most plastic.
