Hmm, these drag races and braking tests are not eligible, because cars are on different tyres. This just shows how much more grippier the audi's tyres were, on the other hand Ferrari has stiffer suspension and that usually results in not so good braking compared to soft susp.

Hello, I might be mistaken, but the reason for the difference in braking performance between those cars, most likely is: Ferrari has: Michelin Cup 2 in widths = 245 (front), 305 (rear) Audi has: Continental Sport Contact 7 in widths = 285 (front), 285 (rear) So because Cup 2's on Ferrari need additional heat buildup for optimal performance, the main reason is that Audi has wider section tires on the front. Front tires contribute to most of the deceleration, when weight shifts to the front, so Audi has advantage in the contact patch during this process. Cheers.

One thing I might add to that and I hope I explain it properly. We know that when emergebraking the car automatically downshifts (if auto trans) where each shift to a lower gear helps slow the vehicle as well. Being awd I would think that each downshift would be 2 ti.es more effective than a rear wheel drive with front wheels basically running freely. I hope that makes sense. Lol

Both wrong. Audi has front engine so more weight over the front so more grip for braking with weight transfer. Ferrari is mid so there isnt weight transfer so less grip in the front. Front is what has the most braking force. Tires matter a little but engine weight transfer does more. Also soft suspension means more weight put on front axle

I actually remember driving the 458 (in wet) and saying it is less exciting than gallardo superleggera. It felt comfortable until you pushed hard (you wouldn't do that in wet, it's RWD). Than Speciale came out and I have to say 458 is THE BEST Ferrari ever and one of the best cars on this planet.

I think it's clear as day. They said it multiple times. "Start as soon as the hands begin to drop down." It can't be more plain than that. It's then the driver's job to time the delay of the car.

The hands are wonky, timing differs from person to person, drivers' eyes differ, arms need to accelerate before being visibly moving. At the very least, they need to brief the signaller to be as crisp with their movement as possible.

The Ferrari 458 was the last Rear/Mid-Engine Ferraris that is timeless and still looks great today compared to newer Ferraris The Audi RS7 (any Generation) will be always a great GT Car to travel through Europe in, same is true for any RS6, RS5 and RS4. People always immediately think of Mercedes-Benz and BMW if they think of German Top of the Line Cars but Audi definitely went a long Way the past 20 Years to take the Spot Prost & Cheers from Berchtesgaden in the Bavarian Alps

Well the runs they did dont work in favor of warming up the brakes, if anything they made them colder because of all the air cooling them further, meaning that once it was time to do the brake test, they were cold as ice

It’s the ground. Thats why the Ferrari does not brake as good as it should. It’s firm suspension can’t really find the grip. The Audis suspension is much more compliant. It can handle the uneven roads better.

I have an aftermarket valve control on my Audi RS6 Performance. The stock exhaust with the V8 sounds phenomenal when all valves are open. On a different note: you can create a shortcut to switch off the speed warning at the start. 😅

During the brake test, my guess is the 458’s ceramic brake rotors and pilot sport cup 2 tires were cold. They need to be warmed up to work better.

So I’m driving a new 2023 Kia sportage, and I would like to upgrade it when my PCP runs out, I would be really interested to see what you would recommend as upgrades from existing cars to the next step up whether it be new or near nearly new I think this would be a great segment

Something is amiss here. A standard 458 will do the standing 1/4 mile in under 11 seconds, a Speciale should be even quicker. They are also quicker 0-60 than an RS7 Performance according to the figures. Not to mention the massive weight difference. Andy doesn't seem to be the best at launching it, but I suspect that car has issues.

I hear ya man. AWD is the answer. AWD on a non preped surface makes sooo much of a difference. The 458 would beat it on a preped surface like a drag strip, but in the streets AWD+ boost is king. This is a reason so many have taken to roll racing. It’s kind of a bummer because having an AWD car means missing out on a lot of fun, makes the car heavier, more to break, and steering/handling compromises.

The reason why Heavier cars often stop better than lighter ones is because their extra mass puts more pressure on the tires under braking, giving them more grip. So despite the 458 probably having more powerful brakes, it just can't put that braking power down to the ground because it's too light and stiff. It's somewhat like how Porsche 911s are so good at launching because they have so much weight over the rear tires.

@@samr7609 Yeah there's a threashhold. More weight helps you stop better until you get to a certain point where it's just too much. Take a semi truck for example. A semi truck is so heavy that all of its braking power gets easily put down to the ground, but it still can't stop nearly as quickly as a car can because even when it's empty and without a trailer, the tractor alone weighs 8-10 tons, that's way too heavy. But in this example, the RS7 is only 500 kg heavier than the 458 so it's not too heavy. There's also another case where your thinking is correct, and that's when the cars brake from a really high speed like 200 mph for example. If they did a break test from 200 mph, the 458 would win because with all that speed, the RS7 would have too much kinetic energy due to its bigger mass. But a brake test from 70 or 100 mph isn't enough to showcase that. So I guess the RS7 brakes better in normal road scenarios which is where it's meant to be driven, and the 458 should brake better in race track scenarios which is where it's supposed to be driven.
