My father loved Citroens. After owning DS Types for 20 Years, he bought an Citroen CX Prestige in 1986. All Citroens he had in the past, turned out to be Nightmares! While having big driving fun, they had to visit the workshop at least once or twice a month. His new CX Prestige had to visit the shop WEEKLY. All his travells with this car ended on the back of a wrecker, who had to bring this CX to the shop to get repaired. Over a range of five years, he spend far over 100.000 $ to get this Nightmare of a Car fixed. This finally endet when the engine exploded. It droped a Rod while highspeed driving, engine decomposed and left an encreadable mass on the Highway.

This video brings tears to my eyes 😢 It was such a fantastic comfortable car to drive, you didnt want to get out of it. Maintenance however was not that fantastic - the handbrakes (working on front wheels) had to be manually adjusted every 5000km (3200 miles) to work. The result was that you had handbrakes for some 4000km, then no handbrakes for 6000km until you reached the oil service interval at 10000km 😊 The CX handbrake system (all CX models) was a heritage from the renowned 2CV 👀

Got one of those. The coolest feature in my opinion is the fact it can take speed bumps and rough terrain extremely well. A 30km/h speed bump you can take at 80 or 90 or 200, it doesn't matter. But the tailgating bmw or audi in your rear view mirror can't handle that at all. Resuling in your tailgating friend hitting his head against his roof, his mcdonalds meal launching around his interior and all sorts of other entertaining and often dangerous situations.

In the late 90's I was fortunate to own a Ds23, a CX25 Gti Turbo 2 and a 3ltr v6 XM. The one I still have? The CX of course.

I still drive a CX Diesel Limousine 5 speed. The only car that drives better is the DS-21 stick shift. After all these years, I was a kid, now I am almost dead, in my eyes they are still the most Avant-garde production cars ever made. So was the BX. We have here in Vancouver a small, but very enthusiastic Citroen community . Stay safe and try to stay healthy.

Can the CX run on 3 wheels like the DS and GS? Fabulous looking vehicle. Just remember when the CX was launched, nothing and I mean nothing looked as futuristic except maybe the NSU Ro80. They have "aged" very well together unlike their contemporary competitors which after a just a few years started to look "old fashioned". Great to see such a beautiful survivor 👏👍👏👍

Funniest thing ever was passing over a roadblock by raising the suspension to the max in one of these and simply driving over the low blocks. A couple of pedestrians had a good laugh at our innovative solution ;-)

Was lucky enough to own a very old CX diesel estate LHD in the late 90s it was enormous, I removed the middle row of seats my large dog could walk around in back and often sat behind the driver seat with his head on my shoulder!. I was into windsurfing and could put my boards inside the car no roof bars needed. The ride was very smooth it did 40mpg, was always a kick starting the engine in the morning and watch the huge bonnet rise up and feel the rear lift up before driving away, the bathroom scales style spedo was so Citroen such unique cars.

I also owned a CX diesel estate some years ago, super unique vehicle, but being an 80s era diesel it smoked quite a bit! Your comment about waiting for the suspension to rise up brought back memories!

Back in '86, we did a private French exchange with our daughter, and the father drove all the way from Paris, to North Yorkshire. I was really surprised when they turned up, in a Ford Sierra, as I had a Citroen BX at that time!

Absolutely love that era 😍😍😍😍 My old man used to had the smaller version the “CX” in late eighties. Also had the same style suspension where one can easily adjust for ether -off road( not by means of 4x4) On road - centre height And freeway- the lowest mode That was very cool car for it’s time 👍

My father had the CX and later the BX. Both were great cars for long trips. Both in consumption and confort. The design is very avant gard and other french brands were creating more simple standard designs that didn't hat the same detailed work. Peugeot and Renault sold more worldwide and both later incorporated influences from Citröen. The adjustable hydraulic suspension was unbeliavable back then.
