A year or two ago, Infinite Office was announced during Oculus Connect. This is a collection of features built into Oculus Quest designed to make working in VR feel more productive and flexible.
Oculus releases these features one by one. So before, we already got the ability to use our Bluetooth mouse or keyboard in the Oculus Quest. This time, we are getting two more features: You can now Bring Your Desk into VR and track a keyboard inside VR. Emphasis on tracking as that’s the cool thing, and definitely levels it up, but this video will show you exactly what it's like!

I’m glad KZbin now recomends your videos within the hour they’re released 😄 Already have 2 Logitech keyboards and not really feeling like buying a third one, but tried tracking it within Immersed. Only issue there is that it shows your classic English QWERTY and not my Portuguese one, so I still get lost with the symbols. Gonna wait for at least more support on keyboard layouts before thinking about buying anything

This is awesome it's finally getting out there. I'm a big fan of Immersed, the free account gives you a couple of screens if you happen to have a couple of screens attached to your pc or as in my case, Mac. I also regularly use termux to work on remote Linux machines in a distraction-free environment in VR, with a simple and relatively inexpensive mechanical keyboard paired. As a touch typist, the tracking isn't so important for me as I get along fine without it but it sure will be nice to have. I was really impressed with what Immersed did even though I rarely bother aligning my keyboard with it.

It's just cool too see all this stuff as a nice step towards the inevitable future in VR, even if it's not really ready for serious and/or long use yet, and even if I personally think any way to make me work more rather than play more is not actually a good thing in terms of my happiness ultimately.

seriously... blind typing is the only large drawback to working in VR... i already love the huge screens and workspaces i can create in VR, but it sucks not being able to see the keyboard...

If you can use this with AirLink with SteamVR games this would be perfect for people like me. Stopped playing Elite Dangerous in VR because I sucked at remembering the keys.

I'm thinking, just like with hand tracking, it's been AI/ML trained on that keyboard in a variety of lighting environments and with a variety of hands in front of it. That was my first thought when they announced that it was the only keyboard they'd use like this initially.

You can use a Bluetooth keyboard in virtual desktop over the quest. You just need to check the thingy about using the quest as a gamepad (do not remember exactly what's it called, but there's two checks and just the first one will allow you to use your Bluetooth keyboard and mouse connected to the quest without turning the controllers into a gamepad. Really looking forward to future iterations of this. I have worked in VR before, but typing blind has been a real issue. I agree that it would be much better if it works with virtual desktop, but does it work with airlink? Also I am still hoping for a inspired hand or finger tracked solution to type in the air when I'm chilling in the hammock 😁 I can't imagine there is no better way to type in VR with handtracking

That's a great feature! However, it is difficult to use yet because it does not support other languages. I hope there will be an update that allows you to input Korean with a Bluetooth keyboard as soon as possible.

use google docs etc in oculus browser, to get a feeling of being productive in VR i guess hahaha. but yeah, hopw VD will be able to have the keyboard input signals transferred into the pc as well. that would be amazing.

My use case is going to be office 365 when travelling... in the office I use multiple screens and when travelling i am stuck with 1 laptop screen. This might be a solution for sitting in a hotel on that tiny desk but having 3 large screens to work with - excel on one, visio on one and outlook on the third. Waiting for the keyboard (bought used online as very difficult to find new in Germany)

I'd love to see this feature regardless of the program running. Would be great for some flight sims where you might not have all the HOTAS bells and whistles and still need some keyboard shortcuts sometimes. Once the tracked hands (or just one of them) get close to the thing, pop it in and make it vanish once you get away from it. Just like the Guardian boundaries. But to be fair, it wasn't exactly a clever move to initially limit the functionality to an old piece of hardware that you can't buy anymore (That thing was released in 2017 and at least in most of Europe, it's been completely unavailable ever since I checked right after the Facebook Connect). It's worse than graphics cards since the K830 isn't even being produced anymore.

Thank you! Your tutorial helped me pair the Logitech K830 but it is still super finicky about actually being seen in the Quest 2 headset. Could be my wifi.

I don't have a Bluetooth keyboard so I can't really test this but, Does it work on Quest 1? I'm not expecting it to but they brought couch and desk mapping as well as mouse support which I've tested all, so anyone out there who's tested if the keyboard tracking works on quest 1?

The problem I have is finding a step by step on how to pair with oculus quest 2. It is recognized on my computer...the k830. Part of the paring consisted of having to enter some numbers which I did and then the paring with the computer was complete. Then I went into oculus. I have the virtual desktop open. I make sure the hand controls are on. I then hit paring keyboard and the k830 pops up. I then hit k830 and it begins to pare. But then it stops. and I dont' have the virtual keyboard. I have turned on the laptop and set if for paring with the blinking light. But still doesn't work. What am I dong wrong. When I look at you tube they show that when paring in oculus you are asked to enter a code. But no code pops up.

Everything works fine except the trackpad, the mouse does'nt move?? And for those who can't get the pairing Code, you must first pair the keyboard before creating the table. I had to reset the default setting in the experimental menu and then pair the keyboard again and it worked

Yes! Of course. But if you want more complex and no web apps its not that easy yet. You can even install APKs in your Quest.

I think the reason for the quest to recognize this keyboard might be hidden lights on the corners. You could try taking a slow motion video of the keyboard with your phone in the dark. If you do that with the oculus controllers for instance you will see a lot of small lights around it.

I've only been able to find the K830 as renewed on Amazon for 80.00. I've had bad experiences with renewed products so I won't do it. Otherwise the keyboard is 149.00 if you can find them in stock anywhere. I've seen the K830 being sold for as high as 400.00 from 3rd party sellers on Newegg. I guess video cards aren't the only thing scalpers are after. In any case, these features hold so much promise for the future of VR and I look forward to giving it a try once it's more polished and more keyboards/mice are supported.

I am in the UK and can't find the keyboard anywhere, without paying £150+. One place says that the k830 has been discontinued. Seems a little short-sighted to introduce this feature on a keyboard that is not available.

@@duncanmitchell8425 hah, yes it does. FB's development team probably had one sitting around the office so they decided to use it. Or they started working on this feature in 2014 when the k830 was new. That being said, I just checked Logitech's website and they have it for 80.00. It even says it's in stock on the US store. No such luck on the UK store though, there doesn't appear to be a buy button on the product page in the UK store.

Great feature if I wanted to go and buy the only keyboard that works for this for 70 bucks. So far I've noticed that the updates are for everything, except what they should be for. Updates for refresh rates on stuff that doesn't even exist yet, one keyboard you need to buy specifically, etc, etc. This last update, all it did was screw up the performance and now drain battery faster then my battery pack can hold the charge. They should be focused on better resolution, and making it so I don't have to look for some tiny spot and stare directly at it, to see clearly, while the whole image is blurred and streaked around it. At first I was excited when I got my Quest 2, but after numerous returns for stupid issues and updates for everything, except what truly was needed. I truly regret the money spent, that will never be recouped. I'd love to find someone to buy all this junk, so I could get my money back and invest in better technology, because this system kinda sucks. I get the low cost now

The Logitech K830 is 100% useless in VR. META as a company will 100% fail because they do not allow the 3rd party app developers to use this keyboard or other Oculus features without us having to HACK THEM. Which is exactly what I will do... I will have my Logitech K830 work in the remote VR desktop environment. People at META are a bunch of losers! Selling a keyboard with so much potential just to lock it in their useless environment.
