DESCRIPTION
Saturday, June 4 1960 seemed like the beginning of an idyllic summer break for Finnish teenagers, Nils Gustafsson, Seppo Boisman, Maila Irmeli Björklund and Anja Tuulikki Mäki. The four friends had decided to go camping at Lake Bodom, a picturesque region not far from their homes in Helsinki...

This is the best researched and best presented true crime podcast on the internet. The presenter gives significant details related to these cases, many very well-known, that add new perspectives to understanding them. Never sensationalistic, and never tendentous.

Longtime listener here too. Batavia is still my favourite Casefile episode. Oh and the series on the history of the Golden State Killer, that was BRILLIANT too ^_^ (and the Belanglo forest case too, so disturbing). Casefile has the best and most in-depth info, while also being presented really clearly. Love it! :)

You probably are aware of nearly identical atttack at Tulilahti then? If you ask me: Its the same guy. Police had a suspect in the Tulilahti attack in custody, but he was just a low level thief and a pervert size of a teenage girl, so i dont put much weight into theories of him actually being involved in any way. Just a scapegoat, thing that Finland back in the day never shyed away from.

This is a very good podcast, no major mistakes, but you completely forgot the pillowcase. There was a pillowcase that was found from the crime scene. There was blood and semen on it. It has been tested for DNA and the DNA did not match the victims and some suspects either. Although Gyllströms DNA hasn't been tested. The actual top suspects in the Bodom case have been the following people: Pauli Pirinen(Irmelis boyfriend whom she cheated with NG) Karl Valdemar "Vallu" Gyllström(a madman 51-year old kiosk keeper who hated campers, had a wife and a son) "The Stonepocket"(a man in his twenties who always had a pillowcase full of stones with him as a weapon, was from the western coast, but lived in Espoo at the time of the murders, was the police top suspect before Haapala and Tuominen started to suspect Gustafsson) Ahti Oksanen(lived in a cabin near the murder site, worked at a nearby construction site) Veijo Matalamäki(a transsexual man who dressed as a woman, did not have an alibi for the time of the murders) Nils Gustafsson(became a suspect during the re-investigation by Tero Haapala and Markku Tuominen in 2002-2003 and was arrested in 2004, later during the trial it became clear that there wasn't really anything against him)

Wowser, that one was quite the journey. Just when I was right behind Nils being guilty, suddenly he's not!? I certainly hope that's true. But if it is true then I think I like Karl Gyllstrom for the crime. Surely that guy was either nuts or guilty, or both? Either way, there was something definitely wrong with him. His wife was terrified of him. He behaved strangely and aggressively towards innocent ppl, including shooting at ppl and cutting tent lines. And, as another comment stated, he ran a kiosk for campers when he hated campers! How much do the police need?? The description of Gyllstom's appearance seems fairly vague and Nils' description of the perp under hypnosis does seem to match that of Hans Assman, but perhaps it's possible that the 2 men shared some physical traits. Perhaps Nils had seen Hans before and his recollections under hypnosis became blurred. Who knows? Also, I'm curious as to how Nils was on top of the tent if the account that he was himself guilty and purposefully laid himself over the tent was not true? Did I miss something about that?

What a horrible story. Those girls were so young I wish they had not gone off with them. If that boy did it he must have been a very disturbed person to get so angry about her not having sex with him. Wow terrible. Those girls and his friend must have been so scared. How could he do that. I wish whoever did it had been caught way back then. I did get suspicious of the surviving kid right away.
