Well here's my fail of the week. First a bit of poorly executed back hoe work followed by a hydraulic blow out !! You don't get to see the shower of hydraulic fluid for two reasons...one, it was blowing up and to the rear of the dipper and two, I had to scramble to get it folded up and parked in a convenient position to begin the repairs. #Casebackhoe, #hydrauliccylinderfailure, #outdoors

Good evening Wendell. Nothing like seat time and smiling while doing it… As a kid I played with all my Tonka toys and I grew up and have been able to play with the real thing and love doing it… Even got to drive fire trucks for 25 years 😁 God I have had fun and feel very lucky..😉😁 I am sure you will be able to rebuild the Cylinder and be right back at it in no time.. Then you can show those stumps who’s the boss👍 As always stay safe and always be kind. Cheers

Heck yeah Gus, if you're doing something you love to do it's almost like not working at all !! Time just goes by so fast every day. Its apart now and the replacement packing and seal kit is ordered....It'll be ready and running in no time. (I hope) LOL Have a wonderful week my friend. Good to see you over at Ed's live chat too.

Well done Wendell! At least until the cylinder packing blew out. I agree with you that operating equipment- especially a backhoe is fun. I just love seat time on my backhoe. Looking forward to seeing you repair the cylinder.

These old hoes are quite a lot different from the new tight ones like yours. The wear in the bosses, pins and bushings make for shaky operation. Plus this one is a three lever control plus two foot pedals for swing and the bigger Ford 4500 is a 4 lever control. Yours and most of the new systems are two wobble stick control. I've never even used a two stick hoe. Cylinder repair coming soon Martin !!

Thanks Samuel, I try to have a good time no matter what. When it comes to the backhoe, I usually begin getting a little smoother just about at the end of every job. LOL If its a bad job I still try to find the fun in it, even if its just laughing at the badness of it. Thanks for the visit and have a great weekend !!

Very nice view Sir ( tractor and driver included SIr ) ; ) That rear backhoe with two cylinders holding the main boom must be very strong 👌💪🧐 1957 Yes I call that a long seat time for sure. Ho boy one of these cylinder was due for service like we did Joe and I on his tractor Cheers !!!

Sometimes they come apart easy and other times they are near to impossible Dave !! How hard was Joe's loader cylinder to get apart and did they use spanner wrenches or were there the huge nuts on the packing gland...?? The Much Older Brother got his 60 year pin in 2017 from the Operators local union that his son and my son are both in.

Well now Mr Wendell, I have been digging and pushing soil for going on 30 years now, and I must say ...don't sell yourself short!! You did amazing , very strategic stump work there I must say!! Hickory's are the worst, second only to large poplars with 10 million roots 🤦🤦 But no matter, you said it RIGHT as long as you or we are having fun that's what it's all about!! I sit on an excavator all day and pass out orders, but there's nothing like getting to the farm and climbing on the little Allis for some much needed "fun time" 😉😉😁😁 Awesome job my friend, hate it got cut short but you are right with old Tractors, we just never know!! That will be a breeze fix for an ace mechanic like yourself, and you.will be back picking stumps in no time!! Looking fwd to seeing a little of the repairs maybe, if not going back together and the grin on your face getting back in the saddle!! Your commentary is spot on always, makes me smile no matter the day ..thank you sir for that!! Look fwd to more!! Btw, while I have you. I got myself all confused on a video I did where I said you were a part of it. I could have sworn it was you I beat out of and Mr Jans channel for the little steam engine....turns out it was Lloyd at the rusty glovebox🤦🤦🤦 I am losing it sure enough, either way I left the plug in regardless and just gonna add the correct way in 🤣🤣🤣🤦🤦 Thank you Mr Wendell!! 😁😁😁

Thanks for the nice words Nelson, but I'd be embarassed to even attempt to claim any degree of expertise on the controls. I get by ok here at home, but they'd throw rocks at me on the jobsites. True story. I got it apart with a little struggling and have the proper repair kit on order. I have a set of Case spanner wrenches for the various cylinders on the hoe. Because of the thin flanges on the gland Case used you just about HAVE to have the spanners. I dealt with a site called Broken Tractor and a fella named Chase. Between the dimensions I had in the parts manual and his tenacity, we finally found the $45 kit for it. Part numbers have changed a number of times in the last 49 years and the computers just CAN'T keep up....(-; I saw your comment on Jan's channel and got a chuckle out of it. Sometimes I have a little trouble keeping everyone I've met in order in my mind across the number of channels I follow and who I talk to. LOL

By now, you've got the repair done. I'm thinking it was a bit costly. I just had a 3 cylinder Lucas pump rebuilt. It cost a little over $500 to rebuild, but then the shop went through the 3 injectors at the same time.

Well Jan, we can never expect something mechanical thats 49 years old run as hard, long and as smooth as a new one so failures are just a part of it. It's only bad if you are on a tight time line but I run a really loose ship because plans can change in an instant daily. We just roll with the punches, fix it and punch back !! Well, Rome wasn't built in a day...or so they say. But then again they didn't have hydraulics or maybe it coulda been..... The real fun will be when Tyler gets on the old rig to dig the footings. But there's a little to do before that happens.

Man, what a root ball. Never realized hickory was like that. But, in my lifetime I've never seen mother nature blow one down either. I have seen Red Oaks toppled over but never a hickory. Looked like you were doing a fine job digging tm44 till your hydraulic packing went out.

Kinda like running track as a kid....well, I was winning while I was in front of everybody !! Doesn't take much of a failure to put you behind again. LOL But we don't really have a schedule anyway. Hickorys are the worst tree to trim and move brush by hand too. The branches seem to be made of springs and they snag on every thing. Not like oaks, ash and elm at all. We will be back in the saddle in no time Dean.

I wore my knees our running case backhoes with the foot swing. And the case has special hoses you cant get a hose made just anyplace. So I bought a JD with wobble stick controls and it has regular SAE hose ends. I use it to dig stumps and most times I dig the hole the stump came out of deeper. and put the stump back in the hole upside down. And our backhoe is a real POS. addicted to starting fluid. Power steering dont work. Most every cyl leaks because the rams are rusted and pitted. It used about the same amount of dollars worth of hyd fluid as dollars worth of diesel. Debbie named it old leaky! We only have about $2500 in it and it sure beats a shovel. We got a hyd steer front axle and intend to cobble that under it to fix the power steering. Yep hickory and scyamore and gum trees have deep tap roots.

Hahahaha....ol' Leaky. What a good name for the old 310 Randy !! I bolted two small angles on the foot pedals so my ankles don't have to be extended down so far to make the swing. Yeah, these hydraulic fittings are 37* JIC flares and ORB's...O-Ring Bosses. There's some weird ones on here for sure. This old Case dribbles here and there, but no substantial leaks until something blows. Most all the hoses are original from '73 when it was bought new by my cousin.

Like I always say Reg.... Things change with a phone call. It just happens that today's change of plans was oil-induced. With some internet and phone time I was able to locate the parts for the 49 year old cylinder at a place called Broken Tractor. It took some digging (pardon the pun) but the parts man found the components I need. They are on the way. Yes, some of those stumps have a connection to Mother Earth that is really hard to break !!
