Unfortunately, the egos of some of these Drill Instructors, combined with pure ignorance, & likely a history as a bully-victim &/or a victim of physical/sexual/mental abuse, can, & sadly does present the perfect storm for "monsters" like Felix to spawn. I've been there & done that...& I still have hard times dealing with what I saw in Iraq.

I can't bear to hear it all the way through and know where it's going. Unfortunately sadistic and psychopathic types are drawn to positions where they can play out their evil desires. And to think many of them are viewed as good, respected or even decent family men and seem to get away with abominations. Thankfully, sometimes these vile people get what justice metes out to them.

Not everyone is stupid, bigoted and cruel enough to choose to believe that people who are Muslim are any different to anyone else. Of course there 🙄 good & bad people in every country, demographic, community, faith and creed, there is no excuse to single out any one of us to treat us badly or differently. We are all the same people, the same species. I have received such kindness from the Muslim ladies who are carers (& those of their family members who I have met) as a patient. I was surprised, I had thought initially that maybe some people would prefer not to deal with a Jewish patient which is fair enough due to world events of course. The opposite has and continues to be true. The levels of racism in my country however infuriates me. We are cousins, we deserve better from our country, I think that we and the other minority communities should rise up as one and demand answers and consequences, and better treatment. There is something very wrong with the hearts and souls of some people. But others feel nothing but love for their fellow women and men I swear. Things will improve, inshallah!!

You mean like Nidal Hasan? I would agree. Otherwise you have obviously never served in the military or even considered the fact that the vast majority of service members are incredibly positive high achieving individuals who contribute, I would guess, far more to society overall than you could dream of doing. That said, your comment is not only disgusting in its generalization of a wonderful and select group but incredibly ignorant beyond belief. I'm sure if you measured per capita the number of criminals in the military vs the general population, the military would appear quite bare.

Not sure if i can speak on them or want to for that matter, even though the investigation has been wrapped up for some time now. You did a great job on this with the info that's out there, what happened to our whole platoon, and most importantly Raheel is a tragedy. DEAR GOD power goes straight to some of these drill instructors heads - WITHOUT PASSING GO !! Just because you’re a superb Marine DOESN’T mean you’ll EVER make a GOOD TEACHER. You need both Type A and B personalities to ensure an excellent Marine Corp….. They should have to pass a psychological exam to confirm they don’t have psychopathy, sociopathy, narcissistic personality disorder or any other antisocial personality disorder…… YES YOU ABSOLUTELY NEED TO BE BROKEN DOWN - MIND, BODY AND SOUL during training - it’s NOT A PICNIC !! BUT AFTER THIS, WHEN YOU FEEL LIKE YOU CAN’T POSSIBLY GO ON, THE MAGIC STARTS AND YOU’RE BUILT UP, BUT STRONGER AND BETTER THAN EVER BEFORE, BOTH MENTALLY AND PHYSICALLY FIT, EXCELLING AND BRIMMING WITH CONFIDENCE, DETERMINATION AND BEST OF ALL YOU’RE AN INTEGRAL, TRUSTED PART OF YOUR TEAM…. FELIX wouldn’t know a TERRORIST if one came up and bit him on his arse…

It is absolutely insane that this happened AFTER boot camp was made more...friendly. While I am not sold that it was actually the DI's personal hate drove him, justice was needed and that is good enough. He lost sight of the line and somebody in his care lost their life. Drill instructors walk a razor edge of, I guess, "tough love." This dude lost sight of the love part, and he killed somebody who was supposed to be his brother-in-training.

Sad story. Thanks for higlighting this. I would like to think this real story was cherry picked or far from the norm yet if stories like these are more common than I would like to believe then I'm surprised that there aren't any drill instructors getting themselves murdered over being picked on like these men were. Psychological tests need to be administered not only for new recruits but need to be continued for seasoned personnel who are assigned responsibility over others.

This breaks my heart. This is what's happening to the Palestinians today and Muslims across the world. Most westerners know very little about the Islam faith, and many comments are negative out of ignorance. That young US men are invited and then entrapped in abusive and criminal situations such hazing, assaults or murder is completely unacceptable. Strong oversight is needed to make sure field exercises don't become abusive and that gangs of thugs aren't allowed to form.

10:14 Thank you for saying "'under the guise' of looking for WoMD," because my dumbass was young, gullible & eager to prove to myself that I wasn't a b¡|¢π, or a "p#$$¥" after feeling I was such, as well as a less-than-worthy of life type of kid that was far from on the path to being a man, after some rather extreme physical & sexual abuse by my babysitter & her boyfriend at age three, & neglect from my mother & later on, straight up bully-tactics toward me from my own mother & physical abuse from my "dad," so, I indeed fell for the bait & subsequently went to Parris Island for my own thirteen week long boot camp vacation. Thankfully I saw the Best in the Iraqi people which led me to questioning everything about the narrative. And thankfully, I lived to make it out where I renounced my title of marine after learning the evil & corruption known collectively as USA!

It's sick that we treat people who want to serve our country like dirt.
