Looks like you're beginning an interesting journey! I built a LoCost from scratch a few years ago and it was a blast. I believe hypercars are as much about engineering competition as they are about art, design, luxury, and who can afford them. Like you say, no one will ever drive one close to it's potential, and to be honest, will ever really be able to. I like hypercars and supercars, but what the industry really needs are simpler cars, cars like the original Miata or '65 Mustang. Ones without touch screens, various superfluous sensors gadgets, nannys and features that may rarely be used over the life of the vehicle. Ones that are cheap to insure and cheap enough to own as a second car. But that's just me.

I've gone 3 times already since it has reopened a few years ago :D But this build is going to be awesome, the Zero is still super cool, there's a video from 2 years ago from Villa d'Este where it features and crawls around under its own power. Love Lancias as well, have driven a Fulvia, it's wicked to hear that punchy little sound so raw with more open pipes. But a V12 in it is really going to do it justice, provided weight distribution, chassis rigidity and suspension geometry are tailored (I'm sure Casey&co will take it all into account).

@ChaosZero.4 жыл бұрын
There is another car that is considered the "sister" of the Lancia Zero, it is the Ferrari Modulo which shared a lot of the design cues of the other one, but if memory serves me right, it was actually based on the Ferrari 512S and/or 512M race car, as far as engine, chassis, and so on. Jim Glickenhaus owns it and his team recently completed a total restoration on it. He drove it in Monaco last year and it caught fire around the exhaust area and had to be repaired. The Lancia Zero didn't suffer from the same issue, but it could've been because it was never driven as much as Jim drives his cars. Maybe look into it, given your King Zero does share some design cues of its own with them. It would be hard to justify to Avalon King that you need more money because not only you didn't buy their products, but the money your spent on your project went up in flames with the car, quite literally.
@CaseyPutsch4 жыл бұрын
Seriously my guy? literally about every car on the planet has exhaust and none of mine catch fire. That isn’t a design cue thing. It’s a who built it, restored it, or looked after it sort of thing.

@@CaseyPutsch Yes, you're right. I didn't mean to offend. By design cues I meant aesthetically. So King Zero, Casey One? Instead of deciding a wheelbase first, I would package the drivetrain, cockpit and front suspension, then let that determine wheelbase and use your projector to stretch the line drawing to fit. I would probably worry about your front suspension structure. A lot of performance cars with a full unit body add a strut tower brace. The Zero design does not seem to allow you either of those. From what I have seen, I would probably draw the front at 1:1 scale and then after the wheelbase is determined, locate the rear wheel and use the projector zoom to match up with the A pillar and rocker panel lines. That should give you more interior height to keep it from being too claustrophobic but still keeping similar lines. Add taller tires to fill out the rear wheel wells or stagger the wheel size if you can. Good luck.
@CaseyPutsch4 жыл бұрын
Maybe you should build one then?
@joequixotic30394 жыл бұрын
@@CaseyPutsch nah, the Italian concept cars are too impractical. They remind me of a time I did a focus group for BMW around 1997 where they told us they let the motorcycle team design the body for the Z3 and I was thinking "you idiots, get the motorcycle team to design the engine". After that and listening to the other focus group participants they started making BMW SUVs. Sorry, I tried. Of course bad choices are highlighted when you put them next to good ones and you can't really talk about the Countach and F40 without mentioning the 959. If you develop a super car from a really good sports car, you wind up with a much more streetable super car than when you start with a styling exercise or a silhouette racer. If I built something, I would probably try for something more like your Mexican prototype car but with a Subaru transmission and a turbocharged Honda K20. Much easier to package, easier to find spares, you can probably make the whole thing lighter so less brakes and less unsprung weight by a lot. If you make a composite tub you can give your feet some crush zone. I hate making molds so I have been trying to think up a good way to make a foam and honeycomb core E-glass tub with minimal, single use molds (probably insulation foam or plywood laminated with plastic sheeting that releases well from the resin). So why haven't I started? I have always missed on the combination of money, workspace and time required. Workspace is the hardest, a suitable shop space around here would cost more than renting a full house in Ohio. Renting my home in this real estate market has always put a damper on my budget and I've had to work my ass off to stay afloat. I haven't been lucky enough to even be in a position to start a car project. My personal projects are all things I can do on my dining room table. You on the other hand are well positioned. You have a large shop space, you have Avalon King's money and apparently you have time. I'm just wishing you luck and suggesting a way to re-proportion the car without losing the design elements or making the cockpit too small. The other challenge I see is changing the seating position in the Boxster chassis. I'm not saying you can't overcome it, just that it has to be overcome. It's a curse to see obstacles on the horizon. Some people take it as an insult, ignore it and then get pissed off when they step in it later. "I told you so" never helps. If I didn't want you to succeed, I would say nothing. Now I could be wrong and that would be easy to figure out. If I'm right and you had to figure it out later in the process, that probably takes more time. If you coach build a body and then figure out your head doesn't fit, that could be a disaster. I'm never afraid to be wrong because it's the easiest problem to recover from (but my track record is pretty good).
