I wish parents were required to teach their children how to swim as soon as possible. I'm 63 and when I was young the public pools gave swimming lessons for free. Many people can't afford lessons, therefore they fail through the cracks and are in more danger for drowning. Prayers for anyone that looses child at any age.

I am so thankful I watched this tonight. It’s the start of a renewed era for me. As Mr Stilwell was chopping down the fence, my heart felt the brokenness of 2very close families. This brought me to my present circumstances & I balled like a baby. He heals my brokenness. Thank you Lord for tearing down my ‘walls’ I used to be real humbled but I allowed my heart to become callused. Forgive me Jesus! I need you. I can’t live another day with my pushing you away. I Love you, Lord! You’re my everything!

I haven't watched this entirely but the love of that little boy to all included in those two families was immense, it hit me when they said a line about Casey not really knowing which family he belonged. Everyone loved this little angel so much, almost like he belonged to all of them even if he only had one true biological dad. So touching how they all came togther to lean on each other. True support and love ❤️

The sad thing is no one acknowledged the young brave girl who was able to call for help, everyone seemed to shrug her off as irrelevant. My pediatrician told me he wouldn't accept my children unless they had swimming lessons as soon as they were able. After seeing this I thank and bless him.

I 💯% agree I lost my daughter back in 2005 and it still kills me to this day, no parent should EVER have to lose and bury their child ever. the day cayla-jade passed away was the day my heart broke into a millon pieces.💔 if it wasn't for my other two children I probably wouldn't be here today, my son was 2 at the time and my daughter was 6. Losing a child is the most horrible 💔 thing 💔 any parent can experience. Especially if you're a single mother like I am. I am a very proud woman who had 4 children. 2 boys and 2girls. MY children were 9, 11, 13 and 16 and I was also helping to raise my enfant granddaughter. My 13 year old daughter and 11 year old son were in an accident with a friend 💔. MY 11 year old son died and my 13 year 💔 old daughter had a punctured lung and broken bones 💔 😢. She saw her little brother die from a broken neck. 3 people said " at least his death was quick. At least she made it. You'll all get over it in time. Just pray 🙏 🤲.

I’m so sorry, Susan. Nobody should have to experience that kind of loss and pain. I’m sure people mean no harm when they say stuff like that, but I completely understand if it rubbed you the wrong way. People seem to think they have to say certain things in the aftermath of tragedy, and they end up spewing platitudes that do more harm than good. There’s no easy solution for the trials you’ve experienced. You just need to go through it the best you can. Please know: my heart is with you.

My older child was given lessons, my younger one (two at the time) learned without lessons because I took both of them to the pool. Watching them like a hawk, the younger one went under water while still breathing and I had to grab her. I was able to teach her to hold her breath. Another year later and she could jump off the diving board like her sister and swim.

I don't know if I saw a pirate version, but I remember my father renting this movie on VHS when it arrived at the videoclub, in the early 90s. He was so moved by its heartbreaking story and deeply human message that he rented it again some time later. There are certain films that mark you from childhood... and this was one of them. Although I was a teenager by then, I remember crying like a child. Today I just watched it again, after 30 years: I couldn't help crying with emotion, as I did then, knowing that my father is no longer alive... but reliving, somehow, those moments we shared together as a family. Sad, but beautiful and solemn movie! 🥲

Excellent movie. I teared up more than once. However, this movie didn't address an underlying issue. Hank was terrible to his daughters, especially to his youngest, who really wanted her dad's attention and time. Hank just wanted a son and paid more attention to him than his own kids. Pete, Casey's dad, was so jealous of his son's relationship with his best friend, yet he could have done all those things with his son, like fishing and playing ball. Still, the cast was superb. Thank you for posting.

Death is unscheduled, it doesn't have time tables or appts you'll know of, it's brutal. I lost my best friend he died at 25 I was 19. He was largely responsible for who I was, without him I just didn't know who to be anymore. You never get over death of someone you love, in time it just hurts just a little less than the day before but you never forget that loss.

This was such a great movie and I don't understand how people build pools knowing kids around who cant swim without covering it. Casey is so intelligent and inquisitive so sad what happened. The neglect the young daughter received was so sad. Let's be honest it was Kathy's fault she was suppose to be watching him point blank and she was annoyed by him and told him to get lost and go sail the boat which he thought she was giving him permission. The daddy blamed the neighbors cause he felt guilty he neglected his son and was jealous of the bond his son had with Hank.I'm really glad how it ended

Last time I checked a fence is really shared responsibility between both homeowners. For the security of the dog and safety of a child. Always check the fence.

Parents are responsible for their children, not the neighbors. Grownups are the ones to watch kids. Their dog digged the hole so they should have fixed the hole themselves. His dog, his son, but accident is an accident.

This is a TV movie with Staci Keanan I didnt see back in the day. She was on the short-lived sitcom Going Places the same year, she had done three seasons of My Two Dads, and the following year she was on the hit show Step By Step for seven seasons. What a sad story!

Not the greatest loss for him, he is in Heaven, the best place in the safe loving arms of Jesus. Like my nephew Joshua who passed at 6yrs old, I believe he is in the best place with Jesus where we all want to be one day even though we miss him dearly.

As a kid I heard what happened up at our neighbours place( we grew up on almost six acres), and there was a dam on our neighbours property. Dad was in our paddock and heard screams, he and the neighbour came running and they got there too late; a little girl had gotten tangled in the reeds, and by the time they reached her, she had drowned. ( the parents ended up breaking up over that terrible tragedy!!!! Apparently another child also drowned in that dam!!!! We used to swim in our own dam, luckily we were all ok…………. I think of my poor dad and the girls dad how absolutely horrific that must of been for them.

Peter wanted Hank to suffer as much as he was suffering. The one who is responsible for taking the life of another person can never suffer as much as those who were the relatives of the dead loved one. Not even Hank, who cared for Casey for Peter could suffer as much as Peter did. Sometimes it is best not to make any person responsible for a death if it is going to irreparably damage them from guilt. Best to label it as an accident. Kathy and Hank were indeed careless, but placing blame of either of them was wrong. Their knowing what they did wrong and the guilt they felt should have been enough for Peter. This makes me think of the Little House on the Prairie episode where Albert accidentally killed his nephew. His feelings of guilt were so strong that it really would have been damaging to him to further punish him. All of them choosing to forgive was better for him and themselves. Same is true here.

I hate to see children drown I nearby drowned when I was around 9 years old Sunday school trip to Bangor and we went to the beach and I went into the water out to far,if it wasn’t for my friend who realised I was drowning I would’ve been dead, doctors said if I was under one more minute I wouldn’t be here today,God definitely wanted me to stay here on earth I love God I owe God my life,I remember on the beach my legs felt like lead real heavy and doctors said because my body was dying being starved of oxygen they said I have a guardian angel indeed,my skin even turned yellow because my body was processing the salt that was in the water will never forget it I can’t watch parts of tv and movies when it shows underwater I remember the sound have been fearful of water ever sense 😢❤

they let a teenager watch the little kid..........the father has very little to do with his son, and then he blames the neighbor , because he was closer to his son than he should have been???????he is feeling guilty.........one other thing that blew my mind, how can a mother go home and not stay with her son that was in danger.....................
@maricamaas2326

The tragedy probably would not have happened had she been home in the first place; as the mother pointed out herself. She brushed off her husband's concerns about what would happen to Casey when she took on the job outside her home. Babysitting by teens has its place, from time to time - for limited periods. Some earn pocket money this way.
