Casey, I have followed your training for quite a while, through most of the upgrades. Stop using Final Cut a few years ago based on your videos. Being 75 YOA, you made this conversion very easy for me. I have even converted many of my Vietnam Super 8 films to DaVinci with great ease. All I can say is, Thank You!

Randomly viewing your videos, I am amazed how your instructions are relevant. Too many tutorials, be they Photoshop, CaptureOne, or Davinci Resolve, teach basic, but relatively useless items. Your tutorials address real-world items. Great!

Thank you for leaving the mistakes in. Those pop up all the time and it's so helpful to know how to work through them. I like the idea of using a colored background when masking. Adds a bit of contrast to help guide the process. For the drop shadow, couldn't you use the text instead of an ellipse? Might make more sense if they shadow were more prominent.

I made the leap to Resolve for editing and coloring a few years ago, but have been resistant to relearn compositing in Fusion. I've got a screen replacement I need to do, and this video has given me the kick in the pants I need to try to do it right in Fusion rather than going out to After Effects. Thanks!

Recreating a reddit post (video meme) from a week or so ago turned out to be good practice for me. It included a screen replacement, too, which is why I wanted to try it. I was quite proud of myself for accomplishing a more accurate motion track than the original, which had the displayed content moving at a slightly different speed than the surrounding footage, which looked odd. OP never replied to me, but if they had I would have asked what tools they used.

I know this is a year old, but a REALLY good trick is to stabilize the footage so the bird so its "centered" making the roto work extremely easy. then a few nodes down the pipe, un stabilize the footage along with the roto. "lockdown" is the best investment Ive ever made for this stuff. for those of you who want to dig in a little deeper. fusion is a life saver

Great one! I probably would have been lazy and put the text somewhere in the frame, where it is supposed to be in front of Mr. Polly Pidgin. But now, how could you create a little 3D effect for the text? Not shiny, glossy 3D.. just a little volume for the text, as if there really where there whilst shooting.

The initial track did not work because it is a planar tracker. It tracks planes. The initial plane that was selected was perpendicular to the text. The best place to track it would be the potion of the step that is co-planer to the text.

Casey bravo!But as in this case you could have used the text an inverted mask on the video track. Also if you want to show how to follow an object using a simple shape as in this case, in Fusion with the right click you can directly publish the mask points as a tracker and follow the bird😉

I am doing a bunch of track and replace screens for a video I'm working on, has anyone ever run into the problem where you create a mask and use a planar transform to move the mask, but sometimes to the mask either shrinks with the planar transform and the control handles / vertices become too small to manipulate or the mask disappears altogether? The mask still does its job, the interface for manipulating it just disappears? Also thank you for making these videos Casey I have in fact learned almost everything I know about Fusion from watching your tuts, as soon as i finish this project I am going to buy your series and go through it.

Casey, I followed the instructions you had on a separate video, to cover up some curse words spray-painted on a wall where we filmed. It worked... except when actors walked in front of the sign (they have to, we have no choice). At that point, the actors would appear behind a sign that was supposed to be 20 feet behind them. Any suggestions?

Really good! Would love to see how to do a longer bit of, or advanced, rotoscoping, especially when chromakeying isn't an option. For example, i do video game clip vides for Elder Scrolls Online and sometimes I want to do skits and such. Unfortunately there's no tools to remove the background or way to set up a "green screen" type effect. How hard would it be to rotoscope something like that?

is there a way to blur the edges of multiple masks without having to go to the blur setting of each mask node?
@dgwdgw2 жыл бұрын
Presumably you could run the mask through a blur node before connecting it to the mask input later in the flow, if that gives a close enough result to the "soft edge" slider. Can't test that theory at this moment, but I don't see why it wouldn't work.

I'm new to all of this, but I remember seeing after effects have rotobrush 2.0 and the equivalent of it being something like Magic Brush (i think) for DR. Hi Casey, I ran into a weird issue following your excellent video. When I do the steps from 14:00 onwards in your video, Resolve randomly does not show me the polygon outline with the control points. It only shows the red shape itself. When I switch back and forth between keyframes, sometimes the polygon outline with the control points come back on, sometimes it doesn't. WEIRD. Any idea what this might be? Thanks a lot for your time! It's much appreciated.
