Van stranded in the desert!

We head out to help a handicap gentleman who's van got stuck in the desert after following a heard of elk out an OHV trail. Unfortunately he wasn't able to get out and try to dig himself out, but luckily we were only 10 minutes down the road and were able to get there quick. We brought out the off road recovery Jeep and used a kinetic rope to yank him out and get him on his way. Big thanks to my neighbor Tom (Grumpy) for coming along and helping out. Had to get my car adjusted to medical problems (I use my left foot for the brake) and had to take lessons (and pass a test with the license registration). The instructor’s car was adaptable to almost every difficulty imaginable - it gives you a whole new perspective on driving and independency in mobility.

I don't where but I heard that juniper were well suited to make pencils because the yearly growth is just the right lenght to provide good wood for a pencil. I always enjoy Grumpies company he's a cool guy.I suspect he is my age and in my case needs something to keep him occupied.

This is a good example of learning from other operations. Matt is king of the Yankum Rope and Casey has embraced it. I have seen Rory in Trail Mater using the Bluetooth Headsets to communicate with the other operators. This would come in handy. It looked like the van driver was giving No Help and then went Full Throttle. Maybe if you two were on headsets or Speakerphone you could communicate.

That power line is probably the Direct Current (very unique) HV power line is probobably part of the line I helped survey on way back in 1962 at the age of 18! Loved working for PP&L (aka COPCO) out in the boonies at that time! Good money when minimum wage was $1.25.

They say the big fir trees here in the Central Sierra pull 400 gallons of water out of the ground per day. A logger told me that, he said one area they logged had a spring start flowing again.

It looks like you have the best of both worlds in Oregon. Mountains and valleys. Beautiful landscape. I am late to this rodeo and this video. Tom is a delight and extra set of hands and minds is always a good addition. Knowledge of your environment is half your battle in the towing industry. I see how you do things, and I see how Matt does things and then I see how Ron Pratt does things.(He is more traditional towing. A lot of damaged vehicles and a lot of heavy industrial accounts moving equipment around for customers.) There are many ways to skin a cat!

I like Tom, too funny. Sounds like I might have a job in ten years once I'm grumpy! Need to let my beard grow. Good information on those Juniper weeds, I hate them as they are invasive in Texas. I ripped over 200 out of my yard, once I did that natural grass and native Texas oaks came back to life. I like native grasses, deep roots, and very drought tolerant (Texas is a word for land of drought, occasionally flooded).

They cut the junipers off the BLM behind my place. They only cut the second growth not old growth junipers. It’s my understanding that the overpopulation of second growth is due to overgrazing livestock. By removing the second growth it leaves more water for grass to grow which means more food for wildlife.

The only off roading I do here in Delaware is when we drive out on the sand at the beach to surf fish. Sometimes it’s challenging. Never had to call a tow company though. I have a Ram 2500 lifted with 35’s might go to 37’s next set of tires. Keep up the videos great fun to watch!
