I do use city bikes a lot and I live them but if you're on a schedule, is not the best choice. Even if you have the app, on a busy day you might not find an empty spot to return them or you won't even find the bikes in the first place. So if you have an important appointment, you'd better not depend on city bikes.

Lol, as you've mentioned yourself: the style of your videos is very consistent (love it) ever over this 9 years of time difference! Today I did my occasional bike commute to work (currently like once a week, used to be more). It is slightly over 30 miles per round trip. That took me a bit over two hours today. Doing that by public transport would save me ~ 10 minutes, but cost me about $20 (still pretty decent IMO). I would not get any exercise from that though. Doing the same by car would maybe reduce it overall 10 minutes if I would park at a premium location (read tens of $$) plus of course fuel + vehicle write-off. I say 'maybe' because traffic might be so that there is no reduction at all or even a big amount of extra time spent in frustrating stand still jams. My commutes are on a second hand 'MTB type' bought in 2018 for ~350, with now about 11.000 miles on it since then. OK, 2 new tires, 2 new chains and one new sprocket etc since then ... Still under 500 🙂

I had almost that exact same commute for two years, except I lived in Tribeca and went to school in the village. I found skateboarding to be the least pain in the ass option. Sure, biking was a bit faster, but by the time I carried my bike down two flights of stairs and found a safe place to park it, it actually took longer.

Jeremy Foster Valencia's system, which has stations every minute of cycling or so (even less sometimes) is called expensive here in Spain and it is like 35$ a year plus 10$ optional insurance lol. Used to be like 25 total.

You should walk to work.... and take the taxi on extremely bad weather days. You are only one mile from work.
@CitarNosis31710 жыл бұрын
~20 minutes / mile. Twice a day. Multiply that up. Contrary to what you might hear, walking won't make you lose weight, or make you fit. Yes, keeping your body fit is important, but walking is the least efficient way to do it. Especially when we are this short on time at this time and age. Losing almost an entire hour each day seems like a huge deal to me. Even more when life is this short. (Yeah I just wasted a minute by typing this down. Oh well.)
@LaSage00710 жыл бұрын
xir Krisztian Kovacs Walking is meant to strengthen your body. Cutting back on calories is the only way to "lose weight", as if that were the issue. You are looking at this as a loss. I look at it as an hour you can spend in the world you created for yourself. Look around you. Don't like it? Move on. And it only takes me 15 minutes to walk a mile, if I mosey.
@CitarNosis31710 жыл бұрын
***** I took the data off from Google, I walk faster than that too. I spent commuting from home to work for a long time, before that I had uni where I did walk ~6-7 miles a day. Not that's a lot, my father did much more in his times. But still, I missed the time that was lost.
@LaSage00710 жыл бұрын
xir Krisztian Kovacs I don't think you should ever "miss" time. You should instead enjoy it. I think you missed an opportunity for joy. It is also a stress reliever, just getting out an appreciating what is around you. Sorry to hear that you didn't enjoy it.
@CitarNosis31710 жыл бұрын
My problem was the lost time and the time to think. The boredness it gave me. I became more and more tense, overthinking every little bit of thing and I could do nothing but keep walking. It's not my sport. | I do enjoy doing it with a buddy or girlfriend (taking long walks), but it's not a sport I would do alone. Hiking and anything is fun... with people.

Rule of thumb is that you should spend at least 10% of the cost of your bike on a bike lock. I personally know of several ways to remove a cheap U-lock, and several ways to remove a cheap combination cable lock, and I ride bikes, not steal them.
