I think it goes automatically to “cute and happy” characters, because little children might accidentaly do weird expression... imagine being a kid and trying your best to make a character, only for it to look mad and derpy... Also because there’s a narrative 😆

That and a thing called "texture mapping"; since these are characters with pre-existing 3D models, it likely juts takes the picture you take and, simply put, "wraps it" around the model. The most it could do without altering the models outright would be to identify what part of the picture is what part of the model, and from the video, it seems like it does this with moderate success. Them all ending up "clean" instead of sharp and dirty would just be a nifty side effect in this case, but I think it still makes everything fit the app's vibe better anyway so it's a win-win

Vitor -Cr based on how even the color is I even suspect it just identifies and takes the known play doh color instead of using the picture itself. That way they only need to do border detection which is a pretty mature technique. I wish Jackie had mixed a new color and tested. But that’s a clever and proper application of known algorithms I would say

This game is basically PS4’s Tearaway, in the game, objects are made of “paper”, you draw them in the game. This Play-doh game is basically the same but with the creation part irl

That's a great kit. There's also a set of kits for toddlers/pre-scoolers that are shapes - letters - numbers (and another one). the letter one comes with a stampable alphabet (it's not set up for blind children as they're imprinted lower case letters, not cut-out). but it looks good.

I can smell the playdough. Also, playdough is like, my childhood. I remember having a big box full of different kinds of colored playdough and a bunch of different molds and things for it. Like, I think I had a playdough waffle pan or iron. (Whatever you call them.) Ahhh, Love playdough

I know a little bit about game programming, and i think that the scanner checks if it recognizes the shape of your creation. If it does, it applies the colors it got from the scanned picture as a texture to a premade model (like the dino, it's also probably why it had it's own eye, not the one you made, and also why the sparkles showed up), if not, it makes a model in the shape of your creation and adds the texture to that

I have been watching NerdECrafter for a little bit over a year almost. And I have watched her review hundreds of craft kits though I do wonder if she is ever going to make her own craft kit. I think it be awesome if she made one cause we also could get to see the process of how a craft kit is made.
