One of my favorites video from you . I totally agree. They have got so out there on prices. It’s stupid. I have a 24’ Rinker and to get a new one it’s a house. A nice house. But the other thing is there making everything so complicated to work on . Boats have catalytic converter‘s and stuff now. It’s crazy! I wonder what that smell from cat’s do to fish lol! I’m guessing we will have to stick to fixing older cool boats for now. Because the new ones look cheap and the cost is over the top .

I think part of the reason for a lack of high speed boats today is the demographics of boating in 1980 the average age of a boater was about 34 today it's about 54. Plus as you pointed out the cost. Somebody in their 30's today is scrambling to buy a house and working non stop to pay for it.

Pachanga 2 22 foot was a dreamboat when I was a kid. Could have gotten one a few years ago and was very close to getting one of those 19' as well, but being grown up I realised I would be better served by 2 boats instead of having 1 do double duty. Yeah, the entry level sport boat market isnt too hot, but to be honest I dont think it sells and earns very well. Manufacturers got to stay in business short term, not only long term. I really think its a lack of customer demand compared to earlier decades. Nice plane name trolling.... dont think I didnt notice.

We had a 22 pachanga that came with a 350 mag, our customer had us repower with a 502. Boat was a 85mph boat, nothing but the drive in the water. Mechanics used to fight about who got to work on it, because they got to lake test it when they were done. I had a couple of rides in it, and at 85mph it was scary.
@ADDvanced

Yeah 80 is a bit much for these hulls. Honestly they're sorta just high speed cruisers, I think 60-70 is where I'd be at if I owned most of these. If you want to really go fast, other hulls are better, but the pachanga was a good blend of style and speed.

It seems like BRP is going to enter this market too. The seadoo switch looks exciting, but it’s slow as balls. If a company designed a go fast deck boat that would air out w a 150-200 they’d have something interesting and desirable

I can't drive for 30 seconds without seeing a Yamaha jet boat getting towed down the street where I live....but the prices crept up on them too!! I still wouldn't compare them to what you would pay for an entry level sport boat from the 70's to the 90's. The nicest Yamaha I see at our local gas station is the 27' model that is styled kinda like a center console and currently goes for $140-160k!!!
@nikkojones2784
@nikkojones2784 Жыл бұрын
@@ADDvanced BRP was in the jetboat market up until 2012 & stopped all production 150 -230 they were esthetically sexxy however, a mechanical nightmare to keep operational. If I'm not mistaken BRP sold or leased the rights/molds to Wellcraft & we're producing the 230 as a Scarab. The downfall of these vessels is the extremely low fretboard especially at the bow, that and the poor quality of the wire harnesses. Don't get me wrong they were hot sellers but terrible investments. On the other hand Yamaha is producing models from 190-275...the 275 comes w/1.8Lt 250s & Drive-X paddle shift technology for docking for novice boaters for $140k of unsurpassed dependability. BRP has quite a risk to jump back in this market considering the situation with interest rates, banks, & the uncertainty of the economy.

I had a 32' Envision Illusion. SeaRay sold the Pachanga molds to Envision and they continued to make boats for a few years. It was a really nice boat, kind of a performance cruiser. I've also had Baja's, Cigarette's and Formula's. The Envision didn't have the performance or looks of the others but was more user friendly. I think the reason boat manufacturers sell entry level, lower cost performance boats is because of manufacturing costs. It costs almost as much to produce a 20 to 25 foot boat as it does to make a larger boat so they can't sell the smaller boats for significantly less than the larger ones. Many years ago Cigarette made a 30' model called the Vice. I badly wanted one thinking because it was only 30' (compared to the 35' Cafe Racer, 38' Top Gun or the 42' Tiger) it would be much cheaper but it was around $200K if I recall. Way out of my price range. I ended up buying a used Cafe Racer. The way to get into performance boats is to buy used. While you are correct, the performance boat world has dropped like a rock (everyone has gone to CCs or pontoons) there are still a lot of us out there and great used boats available.
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced Жыл бұрын
Oh man, I wish I had known that before making this video, but I appreciate your comment anyway. Yeah, they never seemed as fast as the competition, but still the most performance oriented sea rays ever. I understand, but I think there is a massive void of performance hulls for single outboard style hulls. There used to be checkmates, bajas, hydrostreams, etc that would absolutely rip with a 150-200 on the back of them. That entire segment is gone today, and I don't get why. They're cheap to run and own.
@LivingOnCash
@LivingOnCash Жыл бұрын
@@ADDvanced Yes, there were but they are all gone now. Again, cost of building smaller boats makes them too pricey for the target market. Hard to sell small boats for $150K+. Also, many (maybe most) younger boaters now want wake boats with giant ballast tanks. They go slow and make huge wakes that destroy the water, docks and banks. These are ridiculously expensive but seem to sell well. I see a lot of them so somebody is buying them but I don't know how young boaters are affording them. Plus, I don't really consider those buyers a "boater", but more water sports people that need a boat for their sports. I'm in the West and there are a ton of West Coast Custom boat manufacturers out here. Hallett, Eliminator, Ultra, Commander, etc. and they make smaller boats. They come in V drives, I/O, jets, and outboards. Lots of them in the used market for under $20K, sometimes way under.

Sea Ray makes a great boat and I once wanted to own one. I grew out of plastic boats, and purchased a Northriver 20 ft jet boat in 2005. It's built like a tank, and can go as fast as 50 mph providing you can afford the fuel while running on as little 4 inches of water. It's easy to keep as shinny with polish aluminum hull that will outlast a Sea Ray.

Growing up my Uncle had a Pachanga and as a kid I thought it was a cigarette boat lol, Rip Uncle Moe. I'm 34 now and two years ago I was looking to purchase my first boat. Of course, I initially set out looking for a Pachanga. I was hurt to find out that they were discontinued but the 2009's were too expensive for me. I ended up getting a Searay Sundacner 280. If they were to bring them back the price point would too ridiculous imo. What would you price something like that in today's market?
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced Жыл бұрын
Depends how you built it out. The 19' Pachanga could be made cheaply, especially if it was an outboard. Make it a little lighter/smaller, and even a 115-150hp outboard would make it rip. Just seems odd they don't have a performance oriented model at all. Meanwhile, BRP is selling 300hp jet skis, and when those people want something for their family, they will likely get a seadoo switch or something.

From what I've seen Tahiti makes the most affordable small performance boats. They don't do much advertising and they don't even have their own shop anymore, but they can do it for less than the other brands in the category. Shockwave would be #2 most affordable from what I have seen, just don't get one with a Marine Power engine or it will spend more time in a shop than in the water. IMO, the price skyrockets from there on up and it's very frustrating and very obvious since you and other people have observed the trend and are frustrated as well. Slight exaggeration, but it seems what really excites me goes for $400,000 and DCB takes it as far as possible into what's now about $800,000 including recent inflation problems. That's just insane. Sure, there's some nice 20-25' performance boats for $100k-300k...but geez man: $100k+?? That still seems expensive and your comparison with affordable sports cars puts that right into perspective. I love this topic and would love to see another video on it.
@ADDvanced

Wow, that 23' deckboat they make is compelling! Thanks for the comment! Even 400k is insane to me, median house prices is 416k this year. I just don't know where the lake boats went, 16-22' long. It's like people forgot they existed, were affordable, fast, and fun!
@mjodr
@mjodr Жыл бұрын
@@ADDvanced Yeah it's a category that basically disappeared. We've got a 1970's Tahiti 18' "low profile" with an Evinrude 175 and a 2021 Shockwave 21' Skier with a Marine Power LS3 (jet drive). Would love to see something comparable to the Tahiti these days, but the Shockwave "only" set us back 70k. In another brand that Shockwave might push $140k for a similar setup. My friend has owned Yamaha jet boats, a 21' and now a 24', and they aren't super expensive, but they also aren't very exciting to me.

The current boat market (even past 10-20yrs) is seriously disappointing. The IO runabout style boat youre talking about is pretty much gone. Seems like no one wants it back either. Everyone now wants pontoons or obnoxious center consoles. I really dont get it. Im even fine with outboards the problem is the boats theyre on now just arent exciting at all. Not to mention most new boats seem to be extremely cheap build quality. Really took a nosedive after the 08 recesion. At least up until then you could still get decent runabouts with an IO

@andrewlounsberry2371
@andrewlounsberry2371 Ай бұрын
For sure the Pachanga series was very cool! However the definition of a performance boat had changed. 50 or even 60 mph was not considered a performance boat anymore. In order to achieve speeds of 70 mph or more and do it safely required better hull construction and better design.That all costs money.I was in the marine performance industry for a couple of decades and I can't tell you how many Pachangas I saw that were riding hard and the bottoms were literally falling out of them. Not to mention to be a performance boat you need a more powerful engine and that requires a stronger stern drive. Anyone who remembers those days can attest to Bravos having to be changed at the rate of most people changing their underwear. I would agree that a more affordable performance boat would be ideal But 1st the definition of a performance boat would have to be redefined. Just my $0.02 😏

I’ve seen those core failures w the bottoms blowing out online; thought it was soggy cores. Did they do that when they were new????
@andrewlounsberry2371
@andrewlounsberry2371 Ай бұрын
@@ADDvanced Not an issue just on older boats but on fairly new ones as well. The biggest failure point was the stringers breaking lose from the bottom, then allowing water to penatrate the balsa core making the entire bottom soft and ready for failure. The looks and designs of the hull would make one think they're ready to ride hard but in fact, not really! In all fairness, I beleive the Searay designers were not fully aware of the consequnces. It is folly to think you can design a performance hull but use typical mass production construction methods to pull it off. THAT'S why performace boats are so expensive. You need first class materials, coring, resin and the best vaccum bagging techniques available. It all costs money. If your definition of a performace boat is a family type design that can run 65 to 70 mph, then that's totally doable with mass production techniques but, you better have a very strong disclosure statement and policy that using that boat in rough conitions will void the warranty. A boat like that could be used in mild lake conditions for owners that want to feel that speed in VERY mild waters.
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced Ай бұрын
@@andrewlounsberry2371 That's wild; I knew pachangas were never true 'high speed' performance boats but I was assuming what they COULD do was 60-70mph in rough conditions. If they can't even do that, that's sorta sad. At least they look cool, and at least Sea Ray had the balls to try something interesting and performance oriented.

Yes, they should. But with today's economy disposable income is becoming increasingly more problematic.

Record profits at every major corporation for the past 5 years. Skyrocketing prices of cost of living. No change to wages. I think I see the problem.

Cant seem to find your channel in my search function even though im subbed. This platform is garbage. Hopefully its not yt doing it and just a result of their broken search system. All i get is results for videos about ADD.

Make sure you write ADDvanced as one word, and then click on it again because it will autocrrect to advanced

YT will bury search results 20 pages deep if the sub count isn't super high. I don't have any subs, so I can search for days for my own videos with the exact spelling of my name and the video name and it pretty much won't even show it as a result. After 200+ search results I just give up, lol. So it's probably not your fault.

Since you asked...the world needs more fishing boats and fewer speed boats. Personal preference. Nothing personal. Stay calm.
