Will be incredibly strong. More than likely, stronger than from the factory. Just think, with using composite throughout, no one will ever have to go through what you guy went through, rebuilding her. Outstanding work.

i wonder if the piston blocks the oilhole for the oilfeed on the down part of the hydraulics maibe you can put something along the ciinders to act as stops so the completely trimmed out possition is a little less than where it locks up if you where to take the cilinders apart and rebuild them you could add a small piece of pipe as a limit spacer on the inside slid over the ram so it doesnt happen again you could allso use a small burr grinder and lengten the oilfeedhole hole toward the end of that side of the cilinder inside the cilinder or drill a tiny hole at an angle inside the original hole to get past the piston blocking the original
@psavel274
@psavel274 3 жыл бұрын
I agree, in a nutshell some sort of limiter/ spacer block should do the trick so it isn't able to fully extend itself to the point where it jams up. Should be something worth investigating for sure so you don't have to deal with the hassle of messing with it in the future.

Man that looks GREAT! Nice progress. Dig the Rotiforms. Pretty sure my buddy had the same set on his mk5 gti. Guessing they're for your avant? I'm not a boat builder, but based on my experience working with composites I think it'll be plenty strong with the 2 layers. Definitely looks very uniform the way you split the sections, and the fact that the 'empty' space between the tunnels underneath isn't spanning over a huge hollow spot will make it pretty strong/ less likely to flex as is. The cavity is narrow enough that I don't think it will 'bow' or twist or anything like that. I keep looking at the shape of the hull, and I really like the design of it. I think it would look absolutely killer with a sick vinyl wrap on it. Will definitely keep watching this build, its pretty sweet 😎👍🤙

Yeah, they're what I run on the UrS6 but they're pretty trashed, curbed lightly when I bought them and then clipped a curb a few years ago, need to get them remachined/refinished one of these days. I'm more worried about setting an anchor on it or something... and cracking the top layer.

Y’all are doing an excellent job. Need to make sure that the pistons on the polish rods of your trim cylinders aren’t installed backwards and covering the hydraulic ports when it’s trimmed all the way up. It’s an easy mistake to fix.

hmmmm some idiot rebuilt these trim rams like 10 years ago. Me. So it's entirely possible.

Actually laughed out loud on that one. No big deal to check,pop one off,take the lines off and see if the pressure port is blocked with the cylinder all the way out. Still doing a great job in my book.

I know what issue is. If you could give me a shot of transom bracket inside boat. Need to see which trim components are in it.
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced 3 жыл бұрын
Old ones, this is a 78 so it has the old school trim pump/reservoir that nobody makes parts or seals for. Believe it's stock mercruiser 260/pre alpha vintage.
@jamiehankins3204

@@ADDvanced If this model has a reverse hold down valve on it those have a little adjustable guage on it with two white arrows that need to align properly in a set shft position blah blah typical blah mercruiser crap. If it does the simple fix is bypass it. Yes that simple. They either stick like yours or malfunction and blow apart one of the trim cylinders when triming down. Should be a line coming from trim cylinders to valve then another from valve to trim motor. This short one is almost always plastic. Just hook the line from trim cylnders directly to bottom of pump after you remove the other line to valve. It never needed the valve to Begin with. Also there is two wires attached to it also. Disconnect those also. You may have to change or adapt a fitting or two. Uses standard brake line fittings. Hope that helps. Your trusted Mercury mechanic in TN. No dark comments with this one LoL. Good luck

Awesome work, sick boat! Did I miss the vid of splash well delete or replacement? At 1:26 you might be thinking about it wrong, (not that more tabbing is ever bad) the outboard torques sideways heavily twisting the transom, pushes from the bottom actually pulling the top of the transom back and pushes hard on near the center of the transom where the bottom of the engine mount or jack plate is fastened. If you want to get a solid grasp of what happens with the torque of an outboard take your flea or something with a little 25hp and loosen the clamps a bit just play around you'll find that it tries to twist off from one side more than anything and seems to pull the top of the transom back way more than you would think. Point being that knee should be created to be flush with the splash well going up as high as possible and tabbed to the splash well also.
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced 2 жыл бұрын
There's one more episode after this one, so far. Yeah, I know what you mean. I guess I was thinking of something more violent like a log strike. The mini knees are as high as they can go without hitting the splashwell.

This is inspiring me to take on my own boat project. What are the plans for the outside? It looks like there is some kind of clear coat. Can you wet sand, compound, and wax or do you have to go through the process of putting some kind of clear back over it?

I am seriously loving this channel, and also now scrolling through craigslist looking for similar hulls lol I need to replace a small portion of my cuddy cabin floor. My plan was to cut out the rot, brace underneath as necessary, glass that in, and then replace the decking with either coosa, nidacore, or 3/4" plywood. Should I glass up the new floor (bottom side, facing the keel), then place it down, allowing everything to dry at once? Or should I just glass up the whole panel, add more resin/cabosil (between keel/floor), and then place it down? Do you have any recommendations?
@ADDvanced
@ADDvanced 3 жыл бұрын
I don't think it really matters either way, I would just do whatever you are more comfortable with, and whichever seems easier to you. I glassed the bottom of my core and installed it with the top unfinished. This allowed any excess glass from the floor to wrap on the sides, down into the tunnels, giving it even more strength/bonding surface. Hope that makes sense, and thanks for the words!
