Half the reason I love Sleekcraft Sunday episodes is seeing how well you two work together! I was watching the $2500 boat challenge videos on Cleetus’s channel, those boats need your TLC big time, haha. One in particular has a transom that is pretty scary looking

I've never watched that channel until you just mentioned them, fun stuff but those outboards are not set up at all. They should walk that jet boat up top, no problem, unless it has really big power, which... would be unlikely for a budget $2500 build.

This thing is looking great! Everytime I look at it all I can think about is how strong it'll be! Side note for the honeycomb, "potted inserts" might be a good option for mounting stuff to the floor, aviation uses them to put cabinets and other interior items along bulkhead walls and such. Keep the good videos coming!
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
So like use a hole saw and fill w epoxy, and set in a T nut or something?
@lukeb11893 жыл бұрын
@@ADDvanced Pretty much, there are specific potted inserts for doing that, their pretty cheap online, and you epoxy them into place in the drilled hole. With honeycomb panels in aviation you'll get around 250lb sheer and 400lb tension strength from an insert in a 1/2 inch sheet, so if you did 4 bolts per seat you should have a good factor of safety.
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
@@lukeb1189 Dang, just looked these up and they look AWESOME! But having a super hard time finding any for sale. Marketing masters has a $500 min order, looks like most of these aerospace places only sell to businesses. McMaster doesn't stock anything like them. I'll keep looking but if I can't find a source I think I'm going to do small carriage bolts with a sheet of aluminum under the floor? idk.

Have you thought about moving both your battery and your gas tank forward as far as possible in order to shift weight forward? This would help you get up on plane faster. Run the wires and fuel hose before you put the floor down.
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
The problem is the gas tank is custom made for one area of the boat, and the fuel filler holes are already there too. I could probably relocated the battery a bit forward on the other side... I'll look into it, appreciate the input!

I would have added more bulkheads to support the floor especially at the seam between the two.
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
I don't think the floor needs much support, it's only bridging a 9" gap from the tunnel to the stringer, and once I put some glass on the upper surface it'll be pretty strong. But yeah, supporting that seam might be tricky.... hrm...

Maybe another one or two more layers of biaxial (the strongest fiberglass material) over the transome. I had a fiberglass boat shop told me they quit using coosa on transome, because it was not strong enough, to many returned warranty jobs.
@ADDvanced3 жыл бұрын
Good idea! I'll put another set of big tabs of 1708 from transom to tunnels. Also still need to beef up the knee/transom connection, and the stringer/transom connection. I want those areas bomb proof.
@forgotten3202 жыл бұрын
Kelly, If they're not using coosa on the transom what are they using?
@kelley56982 жыл бұрын
@@forgotten320 marine plywood. They probably made the mistake of only using one solid piece of coosa board. I have seen other shops use multiple 3 or more thinner layers of coosa board with each layer encapsulated in strong multi directional fiberglass and resin.

Nice! Carlsons are dope; I think the sterndrive CVX20/21 has the best stern styling out of any boat ever produced.
