When I was in my 20's I was in line to pay for my groceries and there was a 10 year old boy ahead of me. His mom was in the car waiting for him as he ran her errand; of course he had what she needed on her list but didn't have enough to pay for all of the items. I could see on his face he was very embarrassed. I was guessing this has happened before. I covered the cost of the difference and as his things were getting bagged the cashier told me this has happened before with this kid. I told her "I don't care, I can see he hated being there" Besides I can remember only too well when we had to be oh so careful with our budget and had to make sure we had enough $$ to pay for our food. Mom or myself would sometimes put back the least needed items just to make sure we wouldn't get humiliated by anyone in line or by the cashier. Walk a mile in someone's shoes and see what life is for them. If that person is living a lie it's on them. All I know and try to live by is "What would Christ do" Believe it or not it has always carried me through life. It's your choice.

- that is gross of the mother to use her kid like that though. Knowing people will feel bad and cover the balance is so manipulative and I really hate it because like you I too would help the kid. The kid didn't ask for that and he's the one feeling the shame and while that is what his bint of a mother was counting on it doesn't change the fact the kid needs help.
@juliewatson2281 Жыл бұрын
That is exactly what Jesus Christ would do. I’ve always tried to emulate that same spirit. I was in those same shoes where life was really tight when I got hurt and physically have to give up my job because I couldn’t type on a computer for 8-10 hours a day. I ended up working a job that paid 30% less than what I earned on the senior exec floor. To save gas, a friend would swing by on her shopping day, pick me up to go grocery shopping. I ate a lot of beans and tuna then. This dear friend, who I still miss to this day, Would step forward to checkout,she ran her order, then would turn around and tell cashier to run it all on one charge. All, she said is “I got this.I can afford it, at this time, you can’t.” So I let her pay for it and didn’t embarrass her. I found other ways to repay her by “Elderly-sitting” her 85 yr old mom, so my girlfriend could go to church and then meet with her church group and teach Sunday school.Her mom became a dear friend too. I understood both of them, in some ways totally alike, but different on so many levels. They would clash at times. I was the intermediary. I’m an old lady now, both these dear friends are deceased now. I would give anything to have these true Christian souls back in my life, I miss them so- the camaraderie, the friendship and acceptance, the laughter, and even the tears when a mutual friend died. We’ve all been in the shoes of those portrayed. It warms my heart to see so many of my fellow Americans step forward and unasked, offer help. Bless you one and all. Thank you for the tv program that reminds people what Americans really are, their generosity, their love of their fellow man. We occasionally need reminding that the world, our nation, isn’t as cruel and self-centered as Donald Trump portrays to the media.
@sunburstisland2560Ай бұрын
It's really gross of the mom to use her kid like that, but whether or not she was in there with her kid, it's food that (hopefully) the kid would be getting some of. I wouldn't want the kid to go hungry, even if his mom isn't going about it the right way.

Had to on Medicare If it wasn’t for government assistance, I would not have made it out alive. (Well that, friends, family, medical science, God, etc) Now I’m coming up on NINE years cancer free, I have a fantastic job that meets all my needs. Life is good. I’ll never look back at that season and allow shame to interfere. I’m grateful. Truly, truly grateful. and Medicare. Was an adult so also went on food stamps. I've seen cashiers being rude to people before and I've also stepped up to help someone out who needed it. You never know someone's situation. When we were a young couple with a new baby, my husband got burned in an accident and couldn't work. We were suddenly faced with no income and didn't know how we were going to make it. My husband's company stepped up and paid him 85% of his income until he came back to work just because they said it was the right thing to do. They saved us, when they had no obligation to because he was injured away from work. But there are still people out there who care. We will never forget that act of kindness. There's enough hate in the world, let's just be kind to one another.

I used to bar tend in my younger days the first pub was in the center of Manchester UK and it was near all the bus and tram stops so a first calling point for many people coming into town for a night out , plus near hotels where often foreign football supporters would stay, most of the customers were ordinary factory or office workers and I always went home £15 To £20 up in tips and we shared the tips with the cook, cleaner, dishwasher and D.J even the local prostitutes would tip well if they were in a good mood, but the second bar I worked in was right next to an arty theatres and quite wealthy customers would come in and theatre types, not only would they treat us like dirt and often ask for free tap water and to sample the beers before buying they mostly never tipped I would leave each night with either nothing or maybe 35p. I also briefly dated two millionaires who both would only buy reduced price items at the supermarket. I have also recived the most kind and genrous of help and hospitality from ordinary and quite poor people in hours of need.What's the point in having money if you dont enjoy it and share, after all there are no pockets in a shroud.

there are 7 billion+ people in this world. it is 2019, and different cultures intergrate and live among each other. having the mindset that someone comes in your country to "milk" the system is disgusting. everyone goes through hard times, some even escaping death or poverty from their countries and all this man cares about is keeping his country white dominated with everyone speaking English. Had this been a hispanic lady, he wouldnt have stepped up and helped and in my opinion, gives him NO CREDIT for what he did. if youre going to help, be sure that the "kindness" your preaching about matches with anyone in this situation.
@09crafty094 жыл бұрын
@@EMoney913 Some people ARE escaping poverty and death. So obviously when they move and aren't intagraded in the country they obviously do it to receive benefits. Story: I was at a Costco once and like always, I wanted to get a berry smoothie. Usually, my mom or dad comes with me and pays but this time my mom handed me some money and told me to get it while she shopped. I was hesitant, thinking that it might not be enough, but my mom insisted it should be. I was standing in line and looked at the price. I guessed how much the tax would add on and got a bit nervous, but continued anyways. I texted and tried calling my mom, telling her that it might not be enough, but she didn’t answer. When I got to the counter, I ordered my smoothie and when the lady told me the price (with tax) I was embarrassed. I was maybe less than 50 cents short? Maybe more? (I don’t remember the exact price) I said that I could call my mom and go find her but the lady just smiled and leaned over. “Don’t worry about it.” She tipped over a red cup next to the cash register that had coins, receipts, pencils, and whatnot and payed for the rest. “There’s extra change, don’t worry.” I insisted that it was alright and I could just go run back to my mom, but she still helped me. She handed me my smoothie and called for the next person in line. I was so touched by this woman’s kindness. I still tear up to this day, thinking about her. She had no reason to help me. She could’ve just flat out denied me or told me to find my mom and get the rest of the money (even that would’ve been considered kind). She was older than me, working hard for her money while I’m just a kid mooching off of my parents. But she still treated me with so much kindness and understanding. I haven’t seen her since and I don’t know anything about her, but people like that kind hearted woman working at the resister in the food court at Costco make this world a much better place. I hope her life is going well and though I can’t personally repay her, I hope the universe has in some way.

One good thing about Australia is we have community pantries, you go and you pay what you can afford, even if it's like $5. You get a certain amount of points and then each item is worth point, you go around and pick the items you want and they usually give you the basics for free (bread, long life milk, fruit and veggies that are donated by local gardens, instant soups, etc.) Of course it is uncomfortable knowing that you need these services but having them available in a specific place free of judgement of other shoppers who can afford whatever they want or the cashiers who don't understand your situation, is such a comfort and lifesaver. As someone who also grew up in a low income household, I'm glad to hear you are doing well now ❤ It's nice to know our taxes go towards helping others in the way we needed help, a lot of the ones we have are not actually funded properly by government rather supported by it and the people who run them and our communities pick up the slack. These people are angels and I keep a jumper I was given by the salvation army one cold winter when we couldn't get more clothes and myself and my two brothers were growing faster than my parents could afford, it always reminds me of the fact that someone out there always cares and understands and it reminds me of how far we have come since then.

Cold hearted cashier. These people are wonderful. I have been in line and this has happened before. I have helped out! I just won't pay for alcohol or cigarettes. I know what it's like to be in a bind.

Something like that happened to me. I found 50 dollars and I ask the lady at the establishment if someone has being there before me that day. She said, I was the first person. So, I told her that I found money on the floor. She said, oh you can leave it with me in case someone comes. I don't know if she was more honest than me. So, I said ok. Here I gave her $5. She was OK with it, so that means that it wasn't her money. If someone walks and asks for the 50, I would have given the money back, but if it wasn't claimed, I guess it was for me to keep. I felt bad for the person who lost it, maybe that was the family's food money, or the only money she/he had, but I didn't know who to give it to. 😕

I was on food stamps in 2018 after I lost my job due to a car accident. It was extremely hard because I wasn’t able to help provide food. I still lived at home at the time but my position was to buy grocery’s. Being on food stamps can very helpful for people in need of assistance but it can also be very difficult because you have to be on a limited budget. What that women said at the grocery store to that women on the news crossed the line and that would of made me feel guilty. I know how that women feels.
